New Helicopter Centre Coming to Sea World
Master plans can change. We've just finished discussing this over dreamworld... 🤣

I think it would have been wise for Dreamworld to perhaps post a 'technical rehearsal' sign. I know, they want to say it's "open" and have their ribbon cutting and all the rest so they can finally say 'open' but at least something that would explain it to the average punter that these things happen.

Thanks Tim. That's a lot nicer than I would have been.

^This. The added flow on impacts Wet N Wild too - they went with 'biggest and best' when WWW came along, and WWW has never really challenged that. Now, i'm not saying 6 new body slides is going to change that (unless WnW keep removing things), but continued investment at WWW should kick VRTP in the ass that they've ignored WnW GC for far too long, and we may again see a tit-for-tat construction war like we used to see more than a decade ago. The activity at WWW is positive news for both camps... and a plus for enthusiasts all round.

Until you have a regular, public load cycling through from open to close daily, you can't predict some issues. The test runs prior to opening won't have loaded the equipment to the same level for the same period of time - so it is still a 'brand new ride opening'. It's not like there were dozens of test riders cycling the ride daily for the past 8 months...

It probably won't be there last. Slides are much easier to demolish... It'd probably be the first to go. I'm betting the wavepool probably - as they'll likely just fill it in rather than demolish it - just like they did with the BB house pool.

Lego Store Competition - Dreamworld vs Robina
Food is a need. Pizza is a want. You've made arguments against each way. If the store is local, sure, people will go. Local to Coomera is not local to Robina. They're at opposite ends of the gold coast. Robina locals will probably visit their local store, sure - but I doubt that will draw any major traffic away from Dreamworld. Regardless, I doubt there's many people in Robina now that go "lets go to the lego store at dreamworld!" - it's probably more a case of "let's go to dreamworld.... oooooh we can go to the lego store while we're there". The Robina store won't be a destination any more than Coomera is - it'll garner enough foot traffic from those visiting the area already though. But with all that said, nothing about those stores is much you can't do online through various supply channels, and in some cases, cheaper because there's no floor staff or retail shopfront costs to worry about. I frequently look for these options in JF's polls. Seriously - if you care enough, you'll comment on the post. There's no need to add a 'what do you think' poll everytime you stumble upon some news. +1 to this.

Lego Store Competition - Dreamworld vs Robina
Probably about as much as when Domino's opened in the village parks. I know some die-hard fans who visit the DW store just for lego product, but there are so many simpler and easier ways to get it online, I doubt it'll impact much. What it might do is show Lego that there is a market for the product in the area, which may even convince them investing in a park here would be worthy... Side note - as a person who uses keyboard shortcuts, I hate polls.

Steel Taipan Construction - Dreamworld Mack launched roller coaster
I know of several coasters that weigh the train prior to despatch and adjust launch speeds and forces accordingly, so weight shouldn't be an issue (plus you could always just add weight to a train to ensure consistency), but yes, 1 spinner on each train

Steel Taipan Construction - Dreamworld Mack launched roller coaster
probably lost in translation, but my interpretation was that 1 spinning car would be at the back of each train

That's quite the unfortunate typo when discussing water activities at dreamworld. #toosoon.

I'm certain that they will install 6 individual staircases. Due to space limitations, one of the staircases will be built on the other side of the wavepool. In order to reach the new tower, guests will need to ride a zipline across the wavepool. Due to weight restrictions for the zipline, riders must be more than 72kgs, and less than 74kgs, and be wearing blue swimwear.

Honestly, it's a no-brainer. Imagine if the backwards row had no charge on Rivals... currently people pay for a wristband, and essentially walk on (albeit, probably a couple of cycles). If the row was free, offered a different experience, and had limited capacity, the queue would blow out. It would be like offering Flowrider free of charge. It'd get a queue the minute it opened, and they'd be turning people away all day. This was discussed to death for Rivals (i'm sure there's a thread on it somewhere), and i'm 100% dreamworld will be charging for it (Although, in usual 'give away the gate' fashion, I fully expect everyone who renews their pass to get one free ride or something)

Scales are usually only required when there is a chance of valleying, or if the rafts are very weight limited. Many group raft slides have a weight limit (see Kamikaze for example) but they don't actually weigh you. Aqualoop can valley if there is insufficient weight, and I'm thinking the drop chutes might also require one if the drop panel has a limit (which makes sense). If Wedgie also has scales then that would be the reason.

WorkSafe South Australia Banned rides from RAS
I don't see a redundant seatbelt on the harness as an issue. Clearly not called for by the ride designer, and the harness system is likely failsafe anyway - but there has been a lot of amusement incidents recently where the harness has come loose mid-cycle, and being cautious is in the nature of Australian workplace health and safety. We have redundant seatbelts on many park based attractions, and we've even seen them add them to rides like Buzzsaw. If they required the actual harness locking mechanism to somehow be modified, i think little ol South Australia should catch up with the rest of the world.

New Helicopter Centre Coming to Sea World
I was wondering the same thing... putting the pads outside the gate means they expand their potential audience as you don't need a park ticket to ride... I'm wondering though whether the captive market inside the park will be as 'impulsive' at taking a ride when its all the way outside the gates...

Brad - Richard's post is the parental equivalent of "you're both right, now pipe down". Full disclosure - I haven't been on SV yet, and probably won't for quite some time. I have been on Soarin Over California. Now - you're arguing the 'jolts' some people have commented about could be intentional. Fine. we'll let that go. For all the reviews i've seen, screen edges, vignetting, poor resolution of the film are all letting it down. These issues are not unique to a soarin style ride. Anyone who has ever been to a cinema can spot quality issues of this type. Christ - anyone who has been to AOS down the road will tell you a large format projector is still capable of being good quality. Dreamworld used a potato. They then built a screen which, from what I understand, was smaller than standard to fit it inside an existing building, so that they wouldn't have to demolish and rebuild - something they probably should have done anyway. I also believe the original plan was to have 4 modules instead of 6. The screen size possibly would have been fine with 4 modules in a more central position, but since 6 could fit, they put in 6, and the edge seats are clearly suffering because of it.
