  1. Bikash has also said recently that the monorail isn't going, and is in fact due for an upgrade. I look forward to this being true... now... will somebody pass the salt?
  2. Publicly used heights safety systems, regular, professional inspections by qualified equipment certifiers... i mean @StingRay makes a good point that they can make use of the equipment in an evac situation, but the fire brigade could do similarly without the expense to the park. I'm qualified in working safely at heights, and I oversee the routine maintenance and inspection for the tools and equipment used by up to 96 crew - there's a significant cost in buying and maintaining the equipment - especially if it isn't going to see regular use. I predict 'by appointment' will get nixxed entirely the next time equipment inspections are due simply because it isn't making enough money to cover it.
  3. For the record, I can't take credit for this. Credit to the original person's idea for this but i'll choose not to identify them... unless they choose to identify themselves...
  4. And after a weekend of uproar, Dreamworld have now decided to extend the offer to include corrections officers as well. Maccas, Coles and Woolies employees unite - if you all PM Dreamworld and complain, maybe they'll extend the offer to you as well!
  5. Yeah, but if it wasn't said on parkz, does it even count?
  6. that's a bit ridiculous after all that investment. Like if the numbers are dropping off, sure - scale it back and offer it by appointment, but maybe post a couple dates a year people can book into if they don't have the minimum 4? Put it in high season periods, like school holidays \ schoolies etc, and if that fills up, list another date?
  7. You got a source you can share for that one bucko?
  8. @Ash come on... quoting TPSN as a source? Bikash is an arrogant blowhard - he said SDSC would be world class, and in the words of @T-bone its a steaming pile of shit. I'm taking everything Big Gash says with a few kilos of salt until he produces something concrete to back it up. Don't get me wrong, i'm loving his engagement with the theme park community, its something we've needed for a long time, but don't over promise and under deliver, and NEVER rubbish a former colleague in public.
  9. the only thing about ToT that is anymore.
  10. Someone needs to photoshop this for him. I've seen some of his posts, and i've seen him get excited over a little package in the mail. all will be told in good time i guess. 1 & 2 do not go together. As for 3, this has been discussed, stabbed, burned, killed, mummified, burned again, the ashes have been pissed on, then buried in a hole 6 kilometres off shore, and then submerged by several thousand tonnes of seawater. For once, it would be great if the fanciful dreamland that goes on inside your head had just the smallest touch of reality in it.
  11. Holy shit - someone in marketing has finally realised that they need to build hype and anticipation about new attractions before they top out.
  12. Like wasting money, fuel, and natural growth forest to remove something that isn't necessary?
  13. Like Perth, they're 2 hours and 10 years behind...
  14. There was a lot of backlash regarding the costume comp of "professional" cosplayers turning up a few minutes before park close and scooping the prize. I do hope that they revamp it, essentially to either exclude them, or give them their own category so maybe the kids or the "non-serious" players can have a chance.
  15. Looks like the carpark is still there... just heavily planted (probably just artist's impression, but PLANT INTEGRITY was a big part of their announcement, so it could be legit...)
  16. I think an entire year's delay is too much. A delay of a year is something that can happen for a prototype coaster, not an established ride system with several installations around the world. We're not on Mars. Gravity works the same in Brisbane as everywhere else. With the usual tweaking the ride system should operate the same as everywhere else, so there's no excuse for a year. Regulatory delays shouldn't need a year either. If they don't open it by the September school holidays, they can kiss their asses goodbye.
  17. I don't know - the DW and AW projects started prior to whatever new regulations or scrutiny came in, and probably caught them off guard. SW on the other hand has the benefit of DW and AW's experience, and has 6 months to figure out what other compliance obligations they have, and implement them during construction, rather than after completion. I don't think an on-time delivery from SW should indicate the truth or otherwise of this speculation.
  18. It's high time that they actually had one. Previous installations haven't fitted this mould, and have just been a case of 'plonk this where it fits' - I've seen masterplans for other parks, and while not all of it came to fruition, due to changing technology and budget, such a document gives them a direction. While we haven't seen a masterplan for Dreamworld since (i think) the White Water World stage expansions, I have no idea what they were doing with many of their previous installs. Given that his role is described as 'on the ground' - park ops, food and bev, right down to cleaning and grounds gives me great confidence we should see a lot of positive changes. Hopefully Greg brings some of his VRTP strategies (such as the world's tiniest microphone social media streams) to the park, which should open the communication channels and share 'what is the park doing' with the general public. More open communications (with follow through) is one of the big things Dreamworld needs.
  19. I have no inside knowledge of this, but they missed both the christmas and easter prime opening dates. I don't see it as a wise move to open it in what is usually our 'off' season - they'd be better to soft open august and launch official operation in September, if all is ready. No sense in letting off fireworks while the sun is out.
  20. A very cool idea, but probably not ideal. The no-doubt chlorinated water probably wouldn't be a good fit for the monorail's exterior, not to mention the lack of aircon also means that most people would have their windows open. still, a very cool idea... perhaps they could fit a glass roof to the exit of the tunnel so guests see it, but don't get wet? i'm guessing that might be @Slick you want to talk to. I assume the model doesn't show the monorail, judging by the image Richard linked to...
  21. It's going to be on VRTP to ensure the projected opening dates are as close as possible to that promised in the release. its completely doable, but they need to remember what the weather does on the coast, and not plan to start things too late...
  22. Probably follow the same path it always has...
