Dreamworld Winterfest
Honestly, while i have no basis for this, I think Brad's ~6 week timeframe for them to at least announce something in response to Sea World's big reveal is probably necessary.

You're not at all swayed by the TPR Coasterpoll?

Sea World to reveal $50m spend
I can't seem to find it now, but Discovery Networks have an episode where they show building a woodie - right down to the lamination of the track rails (goes crazy with a nailgun). I think it was like extreme engineering or something. Worth a look if you can find it. Well, yeah - one row i guess is a world first - there's plenty of woodies that have run entire trains backwards though. The only reason for this is that the park has sat for quite some time removing attractions without directly replacing them. Pirate Ship, Sea Viper, Skyway, Train... so they already had plenty of land cleared. I think it wouldn't be unfair to say that these are the replacements for some of those attractions, since it will occupy some of the same land. My guess is a themed land like this has probably been on the cards since they first scrapped wild, and its probably just been a case of waiting for land to settle sufficiently.

+1 to that. I took the family to SW recently while we were staying down on the GC. We caught seal guardians (first and probably last time i'll do that), and made it to the top for the dolphin show. Took the kiddo on plenty of rides he was big enough for, and spent a fair bit checking out the animals. We arrived back at the front of the park with about 30 minutes to showtime, had nothing else of interest to occupy us and a 3 year old, didn't like the idea of parking up on the metal benches in full sun with a stroller for ~an hour, so we left. I hear what you're saying, and i'm probably being a little harsh. I bought a pass post-incident. I was keen to support them. I was waiting on the next 'big thing' and eagerly awaited SkyVoyager, and hoping it was going to arrive before my pass expired. The announced lazy river also had me debating a renewal, as we enjoy spending time at Calypso, but prefer the children's options at WWW. With all that blowing up in their faces, I admittedly feel a bit cheated that all the things promised fell flat... At this stage, i'm beyond giving a shit. Nothing short of blockbuster, and a complete overhaul of their practices is going to see me set foot in that park again. Greg's arrival is positive, albeit a little overdue, and i'm keen to see whether he can make some magic, or whether he finds himself constrained, and i hope he does well with the park. At this stage for me its a case of too little too late - and when many (here at least) are inclined to criticise these things, when in reality, doing something new (and included in admission) is still better than nothing, is very telling for how badly they've managed to this point. I do hope Greg is the person that can change my mind... because ice skating certainly doesn't.

I think that's what they've been doing for the past 2 years...

Dreamworld Winterfest
...To clarify - Dreamworld's big issue here right now isn't how to attract existing passholders into the park. The per cap spend from existing passholders isn't going to help them in the long term - it should be the cream on top, but for now, its not enough for the park to bounce back hard enough to climb the mountain that is before them. The reason why we have articles coming out about the big ticket things Dreamworld should buy isn't to get a passholder to renew at a bargain basement price - its to bring more people into the park (or back into the park). Increasing visitation, not just repeating it, is the key. An ice rink isn't going to encourage a non passholder to visit - because (as Skeeta pointed out) the cost of doing so far exceeds that which you might pay at a dedicated rink. Its great that they've decided to try adding some additional events to keep the park refreshed and offer something new to those return visitors - but its not going to be a big factor in turning the park around.

New Helicopter Centre Coming to Sea World
The major part of the carpark that is fenced off is about (north to south) 100 metres long. This distance is usually the minimum distance for a temporary helipad (as in, what is required for emergency landing). Given the broadwater to the west, the 30 metre width (east west) isn't so bad. The Wonderland carpark helipad was also 100m square. Given the info - that they will store 4 choppers, the space taken up actually seems reasonable - storage for four and an appropriate landing pad. Just a guess on my part, but they will probably construct more than 1 pad, so that they can have multiple flights on the go. It's not always busy, but during their peak i've seen a fair amount of people waiting their turn, so the ability to land more than one at a time seems like a good business move.

Actually "activations" is marketing speak - no doubt nobody redrafted their internal material for public release and left that one in.

Movie World Maintenance 2019
Thanks Mickey! That's precisely what I was referring to by a 'full track inspection' - i just knew if i used a particular term or phrase i'd get it wrong... this is the type of inspection they performed on SeaScrewCorkViper which revealed the issues that lead to its ultimate closure. Perhaps the shortening of the maintenance period is simply a reflection that the inspection won't take that long - maybe the contractor inspected the track and determined less time was needed? Or perhaps another ride is in more need of the earlier downtime period - although looking at the current schedule, carousel and tweety cages are the only two that appear to have had their maintenance extended, and i can't really see smaller flats like that impacting what was forecast for such a major coaster.

Movie World Maintenance 2019
The reopening date hasn't changed though... based on the first dates posted at the beginning of this thread, so instead of a 3 month downtime, it's only 2 months. Meanwhile (again based on the starting dates shown at the beginning of the thread): Carousel has been extended by a week to 30 June Green Lantern has also shortened by 3 weeks moving back from 22 July to 12 August. Tweety cages were supposed to be down until 3 June, and that's been extended to 1 July Dodgems were 5-19 August and are now 3 June to 24 November I assume something in the current or recent maintenance has prompted a reshuffle, and they've probably put off some less critical tasks in AA and GL to shorten their maintenance periods. An original three month closure for Arkham seems excessive unless they had planned a big project like a repaint, or a full track inspection...

Dreamworld Winterfest
I've also seen "Ice" Skating in Movie World - but they didn't use real ice... Just because you've seen something in a shopping centre, doesn't mean it can't belong in a theme park too. Especially with the way that Westfield is going these days.

Dreamworld Winterfest
Constantly - like the winterfest thing that doesn't start until the 29th of June? ABC Kids Month went from May 6th and ends on June 6th Cosentino was from April 6-21. What did they do before Cosentino? Village also has many things going that they don't advertise a lot - Like chinese new year at Movie World - but you're right - they aren't introducing new, limited time entertainment every 6 weeks or so - because when they introduce something new - it tends to stick around for a year or more...Like sky flyer, thunder lake, creatures of the deep, WnW Buggy. I will join you in congratulating Dreamworld for trying to fill the void left by the loss of an entire themed land, one of the gold coast's best flat rides, four lives, and the delayed opening of what was supposed to be their saviour. But I don't agree that it in any way puts them on par or better than what VRTP are doing. There's a reason why MW hasn't had much in the way of entertainment filler lately...

New thrill rides: six ways Dreamworld can win back fans
Alright, i'll take the (de)bait. Please - enlighten us as to your thoughts on why DC Rivals doesn't qualify for the title of "one of the best in the world". I will *cringe* refer to the only current enthusiast authority on coasters since the demise of Mitch Hawkers poll... and refer to *gulp* the TPR 2018 Coaster poll, recently published. https://themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=76791&fbclid=IwAR3FFH-aSL85TzOPD00EBP-q0Kpv-svFo8o218Hl1n0GFEKfFnq9X_dGzuc Scoring in the top 20, in a world of amazing coasters overseas, combined with the fact that TPR tends to be heavily weighted towards the USA, I think stands on it's own as a great indication of where it sits. Ben's own words on where DCR stands, and how massive the task is that Dreamworld have to compete with it is also a great indication. If you exclude the wooden coasters from the poll, DCR actually makes it into the top 10 of steel coasters in the world: Note also that the weighting given to the 'steel' poll resulted in preferences ranking slightly differently (its explained better in the TPR thread) - but you'll note in the overall ranking that the Mega-Lite ranking in the overall thread falls below DCR, while in the steel-only poll, it ranks above it - yet DCR still came in the top 10. I will admit, my international exposure to coasters is limited to the USA west coast, Hong Kong and Singapore, so my personal opinion is limited - but coaster junkies and credit whores alike all score DCR highly... so i'm really keen to hear (read) what your reasoning is to cast doubt on what is, in my opinion, an amazing, world class coaster.

Sea World - New Attraction 2019
It's a ride. Judging by comments elsewhere, Sea World is considered a theme park. Therefore its a ride, in a theme park. Therefore, its a theme park ride. I do certainly agree its ok, and is just a minor filler.

Don't bring me into this. I knew it was a joke. I knew what you were referring to. It didn't deserve a fountain, but I couldn't bring myself to 'like' it. I didn't think 'sad' or 'haha' really worked so i went with confused. In retrospect, HAHA was probably the right answer. live and learn.

Sea World - New Attraction 2019
I did ride, but noticed about halfway through I was getting pins and needles in my right leg. I quite enjoyed it actually, but i'd like to see them change the restraints if they decide to keep it.
