  1. Counting down the minutes until @Jdude95's exclusive live updates...
  2. Pretty sure its one of the several accommodation options planned for paradise country.
  3. The rendering doesn't show the diagonal cross bracing, so it's already inaccurate, but you do have a point about the roof beam alignment. Richard's point about the plate seems to suggest another module bolted on beside it, which would suggest everyone is facing forward toward the previous screen location, but if the roof beam alignment has any bearing, perhaps the are facing sideways, and the screen is in the middle - meaning the slanted roof is completely wasted, and the screen is limited in size by the lowest part of the ceiling... which would suck... logic suggests for that reason Richard's plates have got the money... but i've long since given up trying to work out Dreamworld's plans with logic.
  4. No. We're not presently discussing a trackless ride. do keep up!
  5. that, and if I recall, wasn't there some change to planning rules or something, which is why VRTP rushed through all their blue sky projects to get approval before the change date, because extensions post-approval are much easier?
  6. If you could get Lego to sign on to it, sure - but are the characters fitting for what is generally a comedy act? I know we've recently covered the stupidity of a second scooby attraction in the park, but I think Scooby is probably the most fitting - with Scooby, and Shaggy telling jokes... Otherwise - what else have we got available... I could see an original done with Taz Devil - of course assisted by an interpreter - given this discussion is for WB Kids - the Toons aren't that far of a stretch - i reckon you could have Taz, Bugs or Daffy, and Foghorn - they'd absolutely laugh it up. (and this would replace a gaping hole in their current character line-up too) Any other (reasonable and realistic) suggestions?
  7. If anyone has planned a holiday around an expected opening date, fully expecting that the ride will definitely open by the time they arrive, then they're either very naive, or very stupid. I know people here who have gone overseas, and planned to visit a park based on a 'might' be opening, that have at the last minute found out it wouldn't be open - but they went knowing that risk, and while not entirely pleased with the situation, they accepted that these things happen. If they're left very disappointed, it will be their own 'too high' unrealistic expectations that have put them there. I'll just sit here in my caravan outside Sea World. I hear Sea World Wild is coming late 2013.
  8. That's actually a really awesome idea @Boyden Hingston-Muir - the biggest cost with a digital puppetry show would likely be the development and rights to the IP. If you could get an existing IP that's already developed, it'd be a lock, but developing one from scratch might take a bit of effort. Monsters Inc Laugh Floor Donkey Live! Stitch Encounter Turtle Talk with Crush 3/4 are Disney property, and Donkey is Dreamworks which wouldn't get into Movie World at present due to Dreamworld's licensing. Are there other attractions around based on the same concept that aren't Disney or Dreamworks, something that they could utilise within their brand universe?
  9. To go off topic for a minute - a lot of people have a very fanciful version of what happened at Wonderland. Although internally, staff were moaning for a while (and rightly so) the external view to most was that the park was successful and profitable right up until a few months before the closure announcement. I linked recently to an old forum on another website (pre total thrills) that Richard had commented on, and even Richard's view (which is usually quite on point) was stated that the park was in no trouble, and not in any danger of closing anytime in a decade - when it actually closed less than 2 years later. People have it made up in their mind that Sunway's management plan was to operate it long enough to feed their other park and then sell the land when the time was right. That isn't entirely accurate. (if you want to continue the 'reasons why wonderland closed' discussion - don't do it here)
  10. The external facade won't take that long. Most parts and pieces will be fabbed off site, and will simply attach to the existing structure. at worst some paint and panel work which COULD be done overnight if necessary. I'm not confident they'll hit their date either, but let's not exaggerate the amount of time some simple window dressing will take.
  11. To add to the rebuttals that have already been thrown your way - the brave firefighter, and the sole tie down strap weren't present at the time of the incident. This equipment stabilised the car, to ensure safety during the evacuation operation - however the car itself was self supporting prior to the arrival of the fire brigade, which, even with lights and sirens, is still easily 5 minutes away from being in a position to attach a tie down strap. Yes, the car could well have completely derailed, fallen to the ground and killed those people, but don't credit their survival, and the survival of the park and it's reputation on a strap and a firefighter being "all that stopped it" as clearly the derailed wheel assemblies jamming up the track clearly played a part too.
  12. John Bibrough! John Bibrough! John D Rockefeller! ...and most importantly for Dreamworld - "Frontier"
  13. Objection your honor. This entire line of questioning has been asked and answered. He's badgering the witness!
  14. HWSW is an Arrow Dynamics design. You know - the company that designed the world's first tubular steel track on Matterhorn? (still operating) Or the first Hypercoaster - Magnum XL-200? (still operating) Or the first 4th dimension coaster, X2? (still operating). How does your 'old and aged' theory apply? ToT is one of only two reverse freefall coasters listed on RCDB, but the other - Superman, Escape from Krypton continues to operate, and I think as @Slick has pointed out recently, the fact that SFMM took the opportunity to upgrade the control system when they refurbished the ride in 2010 is probably what keeps it running so well. Neither of these attractions at Dreamworld, based on their cousins from the same manufacturer, should require this much maintenance. The maintenance issues therefore should not be attributed to age, but rather, poor standards maintained by the park and their unwillingness to upgrade older attractions when the opportunity presents itself, instead preferring to let them run into the ground, whilst building the next spin-and-spew.
  15. tower crane on top of giant drop now confirmed. In other news - look at that giant erection. eh... Movie World's one was bigger.
  16. Really? thats the path you go down? You completely failed to pick up the giant drop self erection?
  17. Yeah - they need a bouncer to card everyone at the door. No government issued photo ID, no ride.
  18. Still need a crane to lift the boom into position. Fitting to an existing tower means no self erection. Of course you'd love it - its a slow transport ride - how to get from ocean parade to corroboree - just take the crane!
  19. Nah - cabin isn't fixed. its just the angle. turntable is the solid yellow at the top of the latticework on the tower. Still... pretty stupid to get in a tower crane for that height, for this type of construction. They'd have been better off with a mobile crane. Maybe it would be less maintenance if they removed some slats from the tower?
  20. It could lift and slew...
  21. This is movie world. It would mean dispatches would occur at roughly the shortest possible timeframe, whilst still allowing a 10 minute station turn around as per SE's SOP. Each station operator would then be free to chit chat with their counterpart for at least 5 minutes before the door opens. Of course, this being movie world, the other 5 stations would only open from Boxing day to Australia day, and at other times would be closed to save on labour costs.
  22. Thanks @themagician. Your updates are appreciated.
  23. Take note that Magician normally posts text updates on the fly, while he's still at the park. Later, he comes along and posts all the relevant pictures he took that day... take a breath, and wait a while.
  24. You're not wrong in terms of the demolition itself, but many of the old arrow \ vekoma style are welded together, and therefore a demo saw is usually how they pull the track apart - Demon received the same treatment out of Wonderland (it's second home) and we still saw it move to two additional parks (Alabama and India) after removal. I daresay, they may be able to flog Big Cyclone Sidewinder to someone else yet.
