Rollercoaster Derailment in Scotland
I glanced at the article at work today - I had thought it was a sit down coaster. Looking again at the pics and realising it was a suspended coaster makes me realise just how much worse this could have been #HolyShit

DC Rivals HyperCoaster construction discussion
That's ok mate. It doesn't matter if you get things wrong, what's important is that when you realise it's wrong, acknowledge the mistake and move on, rather than continuing to fruitlessly argue the point, or deleting the replies of those who proved it to you.

Ninja's first reply originally said 'at what time tomorrow' and i think this is where the 'next day announcement' hype came from. Smeg didn't ever give an actual timeframe other than 'soon'

Guys, remember, it's not just the camera, its the user behind it. DSLRs aren't cheap, and even then, the base lenses are shit, so you need to spend more to get a decent lens to go with it. Even the polarising filter Janine used costs around $70. You can get basic DSLRs these days under a grand, but you have to learn how to use them properly. if you're in school - do some photography classes as electives or sport, or a TAFE course. You gotta crawl before you can walk. On topic, I think we need to refer to the highside scooby emergency exit as 'god's door' from now on. Hopefully they clean up the darkened area where the show stage signage used to be too. Cant wait to ride this lame ride.

2016 for Movie World
So in one thread, you talk about how a flat ride isn't going to get you to buy a pass, but here you say you don't want a new rollercoaster (something which by far is the main reason most people would buy a pass)... What do you want? a Dark ride or a Walkthrough? (LOL) or a Walkthrough Darkride about a monorail?

Yeah thats a fair play - for me i've said the same thing over Buzzsaw, Tailspin and Pandamonium - although having been on Tailspin I now recognise it as a solid flat, I did not give it enough credit. It still wouldn't have been enough to renew my pass with DW but its solid either way... but I wouldn't call that lame just for that reason... I don't think VRTP needs to install something to make people buy a pass. The pricepoint at the moment is more than enough to bring people to the parks. The add-on sales of things like hunger buster are enough to get extra revenue. The park doesn't need a ride that will bring people to the park - the park needs a ride that makes the whole park better... and this - even if you never ride it - will still make your day better. Why? Because with a theoretical 720PPH (which let's face it will probably be closer to 370-400PPH with VRTP operations) will still soak up more people - thats less queueing in Scooby, Superman, Green Lantern etc... and with the interactive theming, an entirely immersive area, and the potential for more 'villains unleashed' in the same area in the future, it creates another sponge to draw people off main street and out of the big queues. Even if its shit - the GP will still patronise it, and that improves the park overall. It's what they've needed for a long long time. And anything that does that, can't be lame - right?

Here's the thing. We have all agreed, for a long time, that Movie World doesn't fill a day, except in peak periods, and then only because of waiting. The reason why is because they have no filler. they have kids rides, and then blockbusters. E tickets - even Batwing, although not 'big' by standards is still 'big' in MW because it is iconic as is GD\ToT. We've said for many years that MW needs more flats. When I look at this, and then I look at all the flats that DW have installed in the past 10 years - this trumps everything hands down - with the exception of TailSpin, for which i'd guess at this point would be about on par for me (that said, I haven't been on it yet so that could vary). I'm curious @JeffreyMoore - Why do you call it a 'lame ride' ? have you ridden one? do you not like the style of ride? What is it that makes it lame, in your opinion? For me - lame or not, MW needs flats, and they need variety - a few more flats fitted in, along with the new worlds best rollercoaster, and the park is going to start looking like a full day, or even a two day park...

The Off Topic Topic
Thanks for the videos Joz. Looks like a great upgrade. Honestly when your best argument for the old ride was 'it didn't have a line'... pathetic argument. I think they've done well, and having never been on Maelstrom it was cool to see the comparison, and how much of the existing show space they reused.

Topgolf attraction coming to the Gold Coast
As I referred to yesterday, I would compare this to Aqua Golf. You don't need ability. A quick google for Penrith Aqua Golf brought up this image, to give you an example: A quick google determined the average cost of ONE bowling lane is about $50,000, with additional costs for install. This means a 20 lane alley is going to cost you $1m just for the lanes, then you need building, balls, pins, and alot of other hardware. The building we're talking about here for top golf is at least three storeys if the press release is anything to go by, and in addition to all the facilities for each tee (which all appear to be electronic) and a bar and possibly other entertainment facilities as well, they also have to landscape a fair wack of land for the range itself. I don't think the pricepoint is out of the question, but the cost itself isn't in the written media release. The only other 'maybe' thought I had is that 'maybe' the price is for all 8 facilities they plan on opening...? just a thought. Village Roadshow Limited is the signatory on this deal, not the subsidiary - VIllage Roadshow THEME PARKS. Village Roadshow holds a diversified portfolio of entertainment assets including Theme Parks, Cinema Exhibition, Film Distribution, Film Production and Marketing Solutions. Few people are crying foul for Ardent's Main Event centres - which also seems to be making them a bunch of money - which they then of course can use to develop other assets or build new ones too - why should Village be any different?

Topgolf attraction coming to the Gold Coast
For those that aren't sure about this concept - I have three words for you - PANTHERS AQUA GOLF. A lot of you know what i'm talking about. if you don't google it. short answer - its a heck of a lot of fun whilst drinking after dark. VRTP have been exploring ideas for a nighttime event precinct outside MW for ages to try and capture the market of people leaving the park at 5pm. The previous proposal of a motorsport precinct was cool, but nobody drinks whilst they're behind the wheel of a go kart. On the other hand - there are tables only a metre or so away from the tees - so its very much like bowling... and rather than charging $50-$100 for 15 minutes on the track so you can make your money, you can charge $10-15 for a bucket of balls, and count on people enjoying food\drinks to up your per cap. The venue spaces look like they cater to a lot more than just golf too - so they've got plenty of opportunities to make this space work... not only that, but it should also be ready in time for the games as well, giving another party precinct nearby an event space too. It will also give some local entertainment to the eventual hotel \ campgrounds - they're making the property a destination. I love it. And you know what? if golf fails as a entertainment topic, the majority of the space is going to be grass, and nets - it wouldn't be hard to turn it into something else. #bringiton

Dreamworld Q&A
Hey Belinda - i'm curious - you say the technology for laser tag was really dated - I hear ya - I was playing midnight til dawn laserzone battles back in 1999... But didn't you only install AVPX in April 09? And doesn't your parent company still operate laser skirmish in bowling centres all over? So does that mean Ardent's technology in its current centres are dated? Or that the same technology wasn't available to Dreamworld... for some odd reason?

New article 'this is where Disneyland Australia might be built'
Yes unfortunately nobody does their own journalism these days - one shithole posts a rumor and then as it gets picked up by others it gets fiddled to 'make it their own' and through various iterations, you end up with certain things becoming fact - and next thing you know everyone's carrying on. I can't help but laugh at the comments on the various facebook posts and news articles where everyone has a cry over whichever location appears in the article (i think the latest one was Coomera) and how it should be elsewhere (usually near where they themselves live).
