  1. Not such an unlikely situation if you consider where the space program was up to in the 50s, and what they had achieved by 1970... if they hadn't canned the space program for other priorities, i'm sure regular trips to the moon would have occurred by then.
  2. $2 * 52 = $104 $9 * 12 = $108 Plus then you've got merchant processing fees on 52 payments instead of 12... I know it's percentage based, but since they're using an external payment provider, the provider may also charge per transaction... The psychology of it would likely be much the same - it's still a dramatically cheap price be it $2/week or $9/month... far less than $108 or $144
  3. I think though that this is a very good way at increasing the prices without 'bill shock' like in previous years. Yes - everyone's been conditioned to a $99 price point... Now - the pass is $108, or $144 with the night events included. Consider last year's passes included the night events at $99, they've already got people paying $45 more per year for it - and little to no uproar or complaints about it... when you break stuff down into a 'per month' price, it seems less of a difference... And they've already told everyone that the price will go up for next year... that's a whole YEAR for people to adjust to the new price point...hardly something a person will whinge about when they've known about it for a whole year... they're already paying $144, next year more.... it's BRILLIANT - and the perfect way to dig themselves out of the hole they've found themselves in. Plus, they've incentivised paying upfront by offering a month free if you do - just like pay by the month insurance - it costs less if you pay upfront... (Also - given the T&Cs, I foresee that VRTP will get at least 13 months out of everyone who pays by the month - by virtue of the "30 days notice" "after the first 12 months" Most people will miss providing notice early enough and be bound to pay the extra month... not that I can see many people cancelling that quickly.) I reckon we'll soon see passes rise back up to the ~$300 mark, which with all the inclusions is still excellent value.
  4. Although I have no vested interest, I implore Mark and the team not to give away their platinum offering like VRTP did with their Gold passes.... if you build it - they will come.
  5. for $10k - what i meant was the easy fixes that were already suggested, to make it less beige room and more subway station - like painting the pillars in that odd copper green colour. Doing something with the walls so they too aren't plain beige. These things wouldn't cost a lot, but would be a VERY noticeable difference the first time you saw them. Lethal's old 'graffiti wall' would fit right in in a subway station too. I'm sure there's a lot tech services could do with $100k though... and with the film school thing next door, how hard would it be to get them to design and build stuff as a major project that would be usable within the park? (and cost nothing)
  6. $10,000,000? Ten. Million. Dollars? in THEMING? (I'm sure you mean $10,000 or $100,000 right?) I would say $10,000 would make a noticeable difference.... $100,000 would put some of the technical people at VRTP into a 'kid in a candy store' situation that would really give us some "wow"... I'd probably throw that much at JDS and make it look much better \ more real first though. I'd love to see VRTP throw money at one attraction each year on a "whether it needs it or not" basis just to let the guys behind the scenes come up with ideas on how to 'make it better'. This would see a cycle of continuous improvement go throughout the park. I'm not talking millions - maybe only 100k a year or something outside the current maintenance \ refresh regime.
  7. Ahhh... Metropolis Square etc... "repeat!...do not stop at metropolis square!" yep i'm down with that... wouldn't take much to do in a refurb either...
  8. But the earthquake doesn't hit until you're on board - the theme is that you're going for a ride on the MRT. If the lights in the station were flickering - that would suggest that the earthquake had already hit, in which case what are you doing queuing to get on board a subway train when you should be evacuating the station?

  10. I think Mark mentioned that the sleepover would only be available to platinum members so I doubt there'd be a discounted option.
  11. I know we're really pushing our luck... but any early early hints? wet? dry?
  12. LOL! This year's big build isn't even up yet and you're already hitting him for what's next!!! I'm sure they've thought about options... Any ideas Mark?
  13. ^does this mean another trip for you and megan?
  14. Thankyou for your application to create a new thread. Unfortunately your chosen topic was created 14 months ago: It was also commented on less than 15 minutes before you created this thread. The CEO of Adventure World - Mark Shaw - has also been commenting in that thread. But - you already knew that didn't you? We regret to inform you that in this occasion, your application has been unsuccessful. In future - to improve your chances - we recommend a quick scan of the site to determine whether we've actually known about it longer than you have *(usually we have). Further, if its the day the park is announcing it in an exclusive broadcast with a major media outlet (Perth - Today Tonight, Channel 7), chances are we've already studied nearmap, determined the placement of the footers, suggested, and shot down hundreds of different theories on what it could be, and - usually with the help of some inside knowledge - all but determined what it will be prior to the announcement. Thanks for playing!
  15. So here I was thinking that there had been an accident on the set of HWSD today and I get in here to find out it's a hearsay story of something 15 years ago. Perhaps the thread title could say something about the historic nature of the incident, or that it was rumor, not fact? On an unrelated note - how funny is it techies, roadies and stagies tend to gravitate towards theme parks also? I know a lot of amateur (and professional) guys on these boards within that industry...
  16. This is a duplicate thread, and should probably be locked \ deleted.
  17. Absolutely - it's theoretically possible, but as I said before - extremely unlikely. When you consider the tension it is under pre-launch, if it doesn't break on the pad - it's not likely to break in the air. Has anyone EVER heard of one of these things snapping mid-way through the ride? or only on the ground? Research: Here's one 15 years ago. The story says either a cable has snapped, or a mechanism at the end of the cable failed and detached shortly after launch in this incident: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2000.html#jul21a This one in 2001, where it says that one of the cords disengaged (wtf?): http://www.rideaccidents.com/2001.html#jul29b This one - cable snapped before release: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2002.html#jun9 This one snapped midair also, although it specifically states that the line that snapped was steel wire rope, and not bungee cord (the video of the incident two days ago is clearly bungee cord): http://www.rideaccidents.com/2002.html#aug5 This one is a big oops - the operator launched the gondola before the loaders had secured the harnesses!: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2004.html#aug9 This one attributes the incident to a cable that connects the bungee cord to the cage failing after launch: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2005.html#jul24 This one just before release: http://www.rideaccidents.com/2006.html#may7 This one is a bit odd - the bystander says she saw the cord shred like confetti 'as it stretched' but seems the cage was released as it crashed into the tower 70 feet up... http://www.rideaccidents.com/2006.html#aug2b Seems like a bit of a mixed bunch - but from what I can gather: specific failures of the bungee cord are almost certainly pre-launch.Slingshot type rides that use bungee cords that fail after launch are mostly attributed to a 'connection mechanism' or similar - ie - the actual bungee doesn't snap, but the device connecting it to the cage failsPost-launch failures specifically of the line that connects the cage to the tower appear to mostly be steel-wire-rope-and-spring type slingshotsAlthough I haven't provided links to all 'slingshot type' accidents, the remaining ones were usually injuries to bystanders due to poor operation - ie: not the failure of a cord-related component. In two particular incidents - one operator was struck by the cage as he was not where he was supposed to be, and in the other incident, the operator was struck by the cage as he had failed to lock the cage into the launch mechanism properly, and it rolled backwards ontop of him when he commenced the pre-launch process.
  18. I'd suggest that since the park didn't build, and doesn't own the creatures, their existence in the park would be based on popularity and whether the owner of the creatures gets another contract elsewhere - just like Dinos. Given SW is so restricted in usable space, using a large tract of land for 'sculptures' that don't really do much is probably not the best use of land in the long term. The creatures will stay until the land is needed for something else, or until they are no longer popular. I *shudder* at the thought of COTD being a permanent Attraction... *yawn* I mean sure it's new, and wow now - but in 10 years time, is the whale going to be so 'wow' ? or is it going to be covered in bird shit and ready for a bulldozer? Precisely.
  19. ^yeah thats my line of thinking, but what Reanimated has saif as far as the order makes sense... but to expand AC's answer to Reanimated's question - After launch, the cord accelerates the pod upwards. At some point (which is far lower than halfway up the tower) the cords are fully contracted and there is no further acceleration imparted onto the pod. The pod immediately begins decelerating with gravity, and the higher it goes, the slower it gets as the cord slowly dampens the speed of climb. Because of this, the pod does not stretch the cord anywhere near as much as it is at launch, as it is slowed by both gravity and the cord...
  20. Welcome to the conversation. You're only 12 days late.... bit slow, eh?
  21. Thing is though - Random Rollercoaster No. 1 that doesn't really have a theme to ruin with sponsorship (think Revolution as an example) why not slather it in advertising? You wouldn't do a full-vehicle wrap on Space Mountain trains, but Knott's Boomerang, SFMMs Revolution... where there isn't really any 'theme' to ruin, I have no problem with it.
  22. As I see it - the most likely time for the cord to snap is whilst you're on the launch pad - it's the time when the cord is under the most stress, as it is being stretched whilst holding the gondola on the ground... from the moment you're launched, the cord is placed under less stress than pre-launch, and is therefore extremely unlikely to break, if it didn't break pre-launch. How many Rubber Bands can you stretch out to their fullest extend, and then have them break once you reduce the stretch? Of course, over time things weaken and stress and eventually you're going to have a failure - but with the pre-launch strain-and-hold, that would be where my money is.
  23. Which, funnily enough is the same thing you could say for Dreamworld...
  24. lol. Today Tonight's Exclusive.... not so exclusive! lol
  25. I was wondering what those last two were - then I realised you must've uploaded in error when I saw you'd edited!
