  1. Thank you so much Roachie. That is without a doubt the best post I've ever read in this forum, and I can't wait to see more of it! Sounds like your passionate interest in the history of Dreamworld is similar to mine in Butlin's holiday resorts (UK). I can certainly relate to the thrill of talking with someone very close to that history. While I have never met Sir Billy Butlin himself (he died when I was only 6) I have chatted with several of his family and I also have links with several current and former senior Butlin's managers. Whilst I don't get paid for this (other than in occasional free holidays), I have been fortunate enough to become an informal, and largely unacknowledged contributor to Butlin's. It is immensely rewarding just to know these people, and to play a small part in the current development of a company which played a huge part in making me who I am today! Great work!
  2. To be fair, it's only the same as how Coles and Woolworths generally copy each others ideas. Often, you have to copy your competitors in order to remain competitive!
  3. Roughly yes, although normal cinemas do vary. It's a full size cinema though.
  4. No news then today. Sometimes, that's NOT good news!
  5. I'm just showing that, whilst it's certainly not my preference, I am just as capable of dishing out pointless insults to strangers as anyone else is!
  6. That's one of the wonderful things about the internet. It provides ignorant people the opportunity to insult people they have never even met, and there's no consequence for them!
  7. Definitely not for me at those prices! I don't mind though. KDV driving range is a pretty similar experience really, and at $7 for a small bucket or $14 for a large one it's only a small fraction of the price. You get as long as you like for that, on as many bays as you like, any day, any time! Each to his own though!
  8. Came across these today, on display at the State Library. Attached also is the information sign describing how they were taken. and a couple more!
  9. For some reason it always makes me think of Rollercoaster Tycoon!
  10. Me neither I'm afraid. I will be interested to see the flying theatre when it opens, but to be honest it doesn't really sound so different to a 7D cinema to make it worth paying that much. Not when there aren't really any other attractions that interest me which I can't get down the road at Movie World and Wet & Wild. Maybe just the occasional visit to Q1, but you can get a separate pass just for that, or I might even just pay per visit since I only go a couple of times a year.
  11. It seems almost a bit spooky that we were told they had a desire to redevelop the Gold Rush section of Dreamworld well before the incident, which has now led them to do precisely that (albeit with no particular plan for what will replace it).
  12. I think the bit towards the end of the attached statement makes it clear they have no plans for a new dark ride as yet. Next stage of Gold Rush redevelopment works commenced.pdf
  13. Ah. Maybe it's a possibility then. Not going to get excited until something definite is announced, and then only if it sounds good. We'll see, but given they're focused on building the flying theatre attraction this year, I doubt anything will be announced until at least next year.
  14. I'm certain he was saying he hoped to reopen Eureka Mountain once the mountain was demolished, and the plan was to build a new structure in place of the mountain. So it would have been the old derelict wild mouse inside a shed. Not exciting! I'd love to be wrong but I haven't seen or heard anything that remotely suggests they have plans to build a new dark ride, I'm afraid!
  15. I'd have the finale over the fire machine or beat box show, assuming any suitable footage was taken.
  16. I would seriously consider the viability of putting a huge roof (with plenty of translucent panels to let natural light in) over most, or even all of WnW Sydney. They can look to some of the indoor waterparks in the UK for proof of concept.
  17. I recently visited the new driving range opposite Metricon stadium. It has 2 levels you can shoot from and has a small, basic, but quite nice cafe. There's also a good golf shop, and ample easy parking. It's very cheap at just $7 for a small bucket of balls, or $14 for a large one. If you don't bring your own clubs they can be hired for a few dollars each. I don't know the prices for Topgolf yet but I expectthis place is significantly cheaper. It has a really nice relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Within the same complex there's also mini golf, tennis, and a few other activities available. Considering how close to Topgolf it is, this place is likely to remain my favourite driving range. That said, I will definitely check out Topgolf to compare.
  18. I completely agree, but I think the idea Ardent have is that guests should use their "pure imagination" to imagine the rides are themed. Shame Ardent couldn't use their own imaginations to think of an original idea for their advertising, rather than stealing from their competitor by using a song from a Warner Brothers movie. Just off the top of my head, here's a few they could have used. Ok, these are all old songs (as is "Pure Imagination"), but that's no reason they can't be made to sound absolutely modern and relevant. It's just a matter of using a little "pure imagination"!
