Better at what? It's a pretty generic question when it's not such a simple answer. I'll vote movieworld for their ride offerings, especially if you are an adult, but is it a better park? I don't think they have done enough with the rest of the park to say they are better. More like they have a lot of things that need addressing. It's about time they put money into facilities and amenities (here's a start, how about something simple like shaded queue lines everywhere when it's routinely passing 40 degrees ambient temps in summer?) throughout the park and give the kids area an overhaul. There have a steadily widening gap between thrill rides and proper family offerings they seemingly refuse to address.

How is it luck to be actively looking to replace a ride with a coaster and have one drop in your lap? YES, It's a portion of luck that one was available so easily. It isn't luck in EVEN THE SLIGHTEST that they were actively searching to replace a ride though. That's all on them, park management and the ardent board, you know, the ones who have final say on capital purchases? You can argue they got it easy, they got it cheaply, etc, but they already had to have money put aside with the desire to put into a ride purchase before they even committed to looking. Im with Jdude95. The first time it seems like the park is trying to be proactive and claw back some of their apparent mistakes, they are crucified on here because not enough is being done. In what? 2-3 months? hell, even 6 months. How much do you expect to be achieved in a short period of time? The fact they are coming out with these reports shows that capital has been assigned, and yes, I will admit I'm a sceptic until we actually see signs of delivery, but surely this has to be a step in the direction. Not too long ago people were begging the park for any announcement at all that was positive, that made it seem like someone cared at all. Hell, prior to the accident people were saying ardent (and the park) had no long term goal for dreamworld and were just floundering. These announcements seem like a pretty good plan for the next 5+ years of developments at the park. Certainly gives them something to build on to turn 5 years into 10 years. Maybe people could just stop shitting on them for just a moment until they've had a chance to fuck it all up again. That's where you are wrong. They knock it out of the park for kids, better than seaworld and miles ahead of movieworlds offering. You don't want to take a step back from something you are doing a great job at, you want to maintain it, better it if you can and build up the rest of your developments. It's honestly the first time in awhile that either group, vrtp or ardent haven't shown such a narrow focus to their future plans/spending. Movieworld got a hypercoaster, while the rest of the park is suffering visually. They put in an excellent family precinct that has largely been allowed to rot, because, you know, who needs upkeep? what are standards? They are still single minded, focusing on attractions while the rest of their parks are screaming out for a collection of smaller spends to bring facilities and park appearance up to standard. Remember 5 years ago people were laughing that it was such a big deal they were finally replacing toilet blocks? How far did that progress? Extra bathrooms? Why the hell they haven't been crucified to the same extent that dreamworld are held to task because of their poor commitments to announcements, I don't understand it.

Rides sit sbno. People complain they should just get rid of it if they arent going to fix/repair/open it. Rides removed rather than sit, degrading while nothing happens. People demand answers. Rides should be fixed and maintained not removed. Old rides running fine, people complain they are old and should be closed. Need to be replaced with something else. Old rides close. People demand answers. They are part of the history of the park and should be saved. Must be tough running a theme park in this country. 😐

Once upon a time the food hall/court/exit thing was good enough to visit just for the pies in the bakery. Those visits count too right?

Tough business negotiation. COO saving money with 2 for 1 packaged deals. Gotta be constantly achieving those financial outcomes.... All this hate for a ride that until recently was pretty much 100% reliable, rain, hail or shine. Some people are spoiled for choice (until it rains or it gets too hot, or basically any day that ends in "Y" in the case of green lantern).

Duh, its the kids area. You have to look at it from the perspective of a 5 year old. Can we all talk about the new printed, attraction specific fence panels for a moment.

But pretty stickers on aluminium board paneling make for a feature wall and provide a good photo op right? Stand in front and have your photo taken with a flat colourful image of a character you could actually meet in park. I mean, once upon a time murals and signage were still painted, not printed too, but its all the same thing isnt it? Still, last time we took the kids it was just fenced off with temp fencing. Colourful siding is an improvement right? Its not like it will stay there for any period of time now the peak holiday season is over.....

Normally the full height fencing allows a path for the boom lift to drive along the entrance road while they are working on the track. Its normally outside the ride barrier fencing in like this corridoor spaced away from the kerb so the boom has solid concrete to drive on. Same thing was in place when they were closed before christmas holidays.

Id say any combination of the trusses, battens, rafters or purlins are probably rotten through and the whole lot might need replacement. It looks like they put the thatch over marine ply or something similar, so it was more about look than ever being dense enough to help keep the weather out. Remember the huge pine tree that used to be there on the other side? It cracked the walls of the building and lifted the path, so i wouldnt be surprised if the whole thing is condemned. Which of course means village will just cover it up and let it degrade futher by pretending its not there until someone realises its a fire or safety risk or something.

Someone, or even multiple people should go to jail for what happened, but sadly, it doesn't seem like they are going to hand down any personal reccomendations. Multiple instances of negligence and poor management contributed to their deaths. It was shown during the investigation that, based on their own processes the ride shouldnt have opened. It was shown that a few thousand dollars was put ahead of guest safety. Nobody took any accountability for what happened and the lowest denominators, the ride operators had blame heaped upon them by management and supervisors who had loads to answer for themselves. Feel so sorry for the families that went through this, have lost loved ones, but also the staff members traumatised by the incident too. The company let everyone down and even another 20 million in civil lawsuits is not enough retribution for management all the way to the top putting personal motives and arrogancy, along with ultimately $$$$ ahead of the personal safety of their guest and staff. New industry standards and compliance have followed, but the laws implemented following this tragedy that allowed site operators to be held personally liable, following the deaths that occurred at eagle farm race course during the same period, should be utilised against the operators (those in charge of critical park decisions, not ride operators) and management who failed so completely here too. They prosecuted the guy who was to blame for providing no escape for his workers who were ultimately crushed under concrete tilt panels they were errecting, but this seems to have dragged on and on with no action from worksafe qld and its just sickening. Was it a wake up call? Yeah, it provided new jobs, more middle management to see compliancy in an effort to bring an entire industry up to a standard. Still leaves a bad taste in your mouth when it feels like justice hasnt been served though.

What is it? 8 years since the kumback upgrade? You could hardly say it killed the ride after the conversion given the time span. I guess what do you define as a serious crack? One that occurs largely due to fatigue and is anticipated; Or one that shouldnt occur, but has, and everyone freaks out about it? One probably happens frequently enough its dealt with and repaired to a standard or procedure, the other probably grounds a ride until the manufacturer can work out wtf happened and put a fix in place. You wouldnt need vekoma to come in for pretty much anything other than control systems I imagine. A motor is a motor. Theres plenty of people that specialise in that locally. Changing the control systems though I imagine is akin to having kumback replace the lower section of the train. Someone doing it is going to have to take on all the risk, so you probably cant just google someone local for an upgrade.

Green lantern is apparently being repainted, so it probably explains the long closure. I cant remember ever seen the arms come off doomsday during annual maintenance? I wonder how long they have on the transmission/gearbox between overhauls as the ride would be roughly 4 years old when it goes down for maintenance.

It seems more like they are actively trying to fix whatever the issue is, given the open/close cycle. Yeah, its an old ride, but its generally pretty reliable all things considered. Down time between open periods could be waiting for parts or repair/testing. Especially if age is making it hard to repair or find parts. If it was just a case of its old, we cant fix it, they probably wouldnt have been reopening it multiple times over the last couple of months. Youd just write it off and close the ride when it looked like it was a difficult fix.

Rather than potentially be stuck with needing to store components, plus i imagine there is a large up front cost to get building on a coaster so any discount is probably offset by that. I wouldnt at all be surprised if you have to make full payment of the ride before hand though, and maybe if you have issue with delivery, the manufacturer might try and package another deal together to sell the ride so you dont lose out on a stack of money. I honestly cant see the manufacturer being left out of pocket though. Theres all sorts of protections in a contract for buying a car, let alone a multi million dollar roller coaster. Its not like you can burn that company and go to another and have one ready to go instantly. So i cant see you getting a refund or dropping out of the purchase without some sort of cost incurred.

As in, it was ordered by another park and they didnt go through with the delivery and dreamworld picked it up.

Go to the park for extended trading right now and tell me im wrong, that rides arent still running after 5:30. Rivals was still doing loops last night when we went to wet and wild for the movie, it was well after 6. They are advertising the rides are open to 5:30. That means if you walk up to a ride at 5:25pm youre going to be allowed into the queue. If the queue is full, its going to take maybe even 90 mins to clear with some of the crowds this time of year. If you go during non peak times, the same thing happens at 5pm. They run the queues out. If its a busy day you can still be riding at 5:30. Security give you time to loiter around a bit and start shuffling people out the park. It never closes at 5:30 during peak or 5pm any other time of the year. Busier it gets, longer the rides take to clear, longer the grace period.

6 pm is the official park close time, its right there above. They dont close queue lines early to make the cutoff, they dont close the rides with people in the queues either. Running at peak times you could have a queue of 90 mins or more at superman, dc rivals, etc. So if you joined the line around 5pm you could still be waiting until after 6 before you even got on the ride.

It took movieworld roughly 2 years to see their hypercoaster manufactured and delivered. So do you think that 1) they already coughed up the money for a coaster well before greg moved camps, or 2) they purchased an already built coaster, possibly ordered by someone else? People seem to overestimate how big these companies are and how much time it actually takes to manufacture structural steel components when you have a waiting list of clients as it is.

He hasnt been in the job long enough to have ordered new boats and have them ready for delivery. I doubt its a simple, slap together in a few months deal to have them arrive even if they did shell out for new ones to get rid of the canopies. I wouldnt be surprised if its getting another upgrade. Building shit changes pretty drastic in 12 months sometimes. Cant imagine what an industry like this one being driven by deaths and safety investigations with a coroners report casting shadow over everything is like. Could literally have a standard or control change within months and render lots of previously coded stuff obsolete. Hell, even insurance could change and make it difficult to find coverage if you dont have a manufacturer to fall back on, given what happened with their other inhouse ride. Lots of risk to assume even if you think everything is safe.

They open earlier AND close later at movieworld though. Park opens at 9am, closes at 6pm*. 6pm is a loose figure as we all know, because they run out the queues, so it's more like 6:30 or maybe even later depending on how busy it is. I havent been during these holidays, but last christmas ones there was a 45 min queue just to get off the highway, let alone through the gates. So the earlier opening at both parks might help with the traffic, even if it sucks that you still get stuck at the ticket booths. Why does it take so long to process ticket purchases. 😫

Id say whatever cms they use for the website had a date that expired. Its showing closed again without a date.

Ideally youd probably like to project the image from behind your subjects so you dont see the light from the projector, but thats not really possible here when the car would get in the way.
