  1. I had to go have a look today; the smoke was a good level, however, there are 3 lasers (the green one by the lift, the turntable laser and the one diagonally opposite the lift) that were static. That left the green laser by the spider which is pointing into the bottom half of the ride, and a duller, red laser in the top half. I think the reason you said the smoke wasn't at the top was because the lasers weren't working effectively, because I thought the smoke was spot on the money. With a couple of small exceptions, everything except those 3 lasers were perfect.
  2. There are hundreds of sensors, each measuring the smallest detail. It only takes one incorrect reading on any of the monitering computers for the ride to shut down. More often than not its just a computer fault. FWIW the ride was running in the afternoon
  3. It's worth pointing out that the topic posted is old, and since that time Scooby is pretty much back to being as good as it ever was. Occasionally a laser isn't on, but that was true when the ride first opened too. For me the biggest issue with Scooby is how much light leaks in through the cracks in the emergency exit doors; the ride and the all effects are in good working order, and when stuff breaks it gets fixed.
  4. That accurately described the ride when it opened. It still does. The only difference is the lasers in the second room are now full colour instead of just green.
  5. That's a good find themeparksgc, I think further to that the teaser "the battle begins" also would to me suggest shooting dark ride. There are growing rumblings on the grapevine that this ride may indeed be something quite special.
  6. The road runner theme song lyrics were "just running down the roads his idea of having fun", I think it's a clever reference.
  7. It took a year to gut lassiters lost mine and build Bermuda. Scooby Doo took about a year to build and Superman's Preshow took a matter of months. I think if they start soon they can come up with something special by Xmas.
  8. I think it comes down to people on these websites know that there are lots of them. I think that's pretty much it. I'd like to see AW do better than a Boomerang, but if they got one I reckon it'd be a good ride for them. I've been on 4 or 5 boomerangs, and they're prefectly fine rides. I don't really enjoy going backwards through the loop, but I don't mind it either. I wouldn't travel for a boomerang, but I totally get why there are so many of them; they're cheap, and in the right park, very marketable. AW could do much worse. Also Alex; when Wonderland's other big coaster was Bush Beast, no one is going to complain about how rough Demon was
  9. I like the idea, I think everyday at 5pm when the guests leave, Village is kissing goodbye to a good chunk of money, and something to make money during the evenings is a no brainer to me. I also like the idea of making the entire property one that you explore on foot; the area surrounding the parks isn't pleasant, but if you can make it a pleasant (albeit long) walk between the parks I think it would improve the guest experience immensely. Having said that; I think there are a few things they can get better. It's a shame that with the layout of the land they can't make it like Universal Orlando, where guests (for both parks) have to walk through it to get to their park of choice. Not without having a multistory car park for both parks where the water stage is anyway, and that would cost mega$$$. But for all the issues with the lay of the land I do think having a road (and a potentially busy road at that) running straight through the middle of the town square does seem like a bit of a silly move. I'm guessing the idea is to get people to see it when they arrive at Movie World, but I don't think it's been well thought out, and particularly during Xmas and Halloween I think there's huge potential for disaster. Also a worry is that this also comes at the expense of parking, which is already in short supply I think is a recipe for disaster. I shudder to think what it will be like getting a park on a Summer's day when Wet 'n' Wild and Movie World both have around 10,000 guests, AOS has 2 shows and the new proposal is up and swinging. I'm quietly hopeful that if it proves a success, they'll rethink the number of go kart tracks (are the two closest to the restaurants really needed?) and add a couple of bars and maybe even a nightclub and make this somewhere that locals will go after dark, and somewhere the tourists can linger when they've finished dinner. Don't forget that there's also AOS in this, that place brings in between 800/1000 most nights, how will this proposal capitalise on that? I don't think they're going to want to ride go karts, nor do I think they'll want to eat at a restaurant (they get fed at the show), but a bar? Yeah I can picture a hundred or so people kicking on at a pub for sure. I think if you can make a compelling nights entertainment in the area, make it a destination that you can traverse on foot, the next question is where does the hotel go? Because I think the area would be perfect for one. Also, before anyone says I'm being overly critical, I'm very pleased that Village is attempting to have a strategic vision and develop it's land, rather than being short sighted and selling off the excess.
  10. Folks if you're interested in the entertainment precinct out the front of Movie World, click the link. Great find.
  11. I don't know about that, people go to DW for cyclone and people go to MW for Lethal Weapon, and Womderland survived with Demon as its signature thrill ride for many years.
  12. Aussie World is very good at getting second hand rides and making them like new so I'm sure they could make it good, but for how much it would cost they'd probably better off getting a new one if they wanted a boomerang
  13. I think it makes sense for Movie World to be concentrating on making an entire part of the park DC themed because DC is popular, and long lasting. Also realistically, they can't make an entire themed land in a year, so it's OK that they're taking a couple years to do it. It also makes sense that a ride themed to Lethal Weapon -a not particually notable action franchise from the early 90s- be rethemed to something in he DC universe if it's in said themed land. Now they just need an elaborate DC family ride and all will be well.
  14. It's the ideas that count, you'll notice in my review of MikeMac's entry I went through the ideas and explained why I liked them. You'll notice that at no point did I say "ooh pretty. I hope you win!!!".
  15. I reckon you're 100% right and am quietly amazed that you actually worked it out without knowing the back of house.
  16. The German version IS Bermuda triangle. The park opened in 1996 with Bermuda, as well as batman adventure, looney turns river ride, and gremlins. For a while, Germany looked liked the version of Movie World that we wish we got, but speaking for myself, I think our Movie World is by far the better of the two these days.
  17. Four entries, not bad. I think the two stand outs in this round have definitely been Themeparkgc, and MikeMac. Both of which are well rounded, but I think the clear winner is MikeMac. I'll run through a couple of things that made it stand out for me: * Preservation of Wild West Fall's sightlines. One of the things that interests me is how well the proposals fit into the park, and in this challenge, how much visual intrusion there would be on WWF. I'm a big fan of how that ride transports you right out of the park, away from everything, and MikeMac's was the only one that wouldn't have impacted on that ride. * The Star Wars themed ride; while it's outside the brief, I think is an ideal ride for the location proposed. I think that without it the Wild West section of the park does risk being too big, and it solves that problem quite elegantly. It's also the only proposal that gives the park a ride that they can open past 9pm, a big plus in my eyes. * The food and bev options are simple, and I think the park could do with another place to get a coffee/ get a light snack. I've assumed the cafe themed to a Saloon also sells alcohol on your behalf on that one. * The Grand Canyon; while I do think the ride choices for the Canyon are a bit on the uninspiring side, the Canyon idea does fit with the Topography of the park reasonably well. From my reading of it it would also hide the Star Wars show building. * The Lights, Camera, Action Film Experience is a brilliant concept. The fact it also takes up the old western town, which is pretty much dead space is a smart move as well. Sea World makes a ton of money by selling Animal Adventures, and I see this as a potential equivelent for Movie World. My only worry is that redeveloping the Show Stage would cost a ton of money, so it'd need to be established that the market for this type of experience existed, but assuming it did, I think it's a great idea and the Show Stage is the perfect place for it. As an aside; it'd also make a great place for school groups. The one drawback (This true of most of the entries, and even of the real park, but since I'm doing a detailed critique of this I thought I'd mention it); this doesn't include a logical next step to expand the park in the future. It'd be nice if the 'open end' of the Canyon didn't jut up against the Star Wars show building, so that it would be a simple matter of removing the Rockin' Tug to be able to expand around the back of Lethal. As it is, to expand you'd have to get rid of Wagon Wheel, which could turn out to be a popular ride. Overall though, I think it is the standout entry by a fair margin, and is something that if it was built, I'd be applauding. I think it's ambitious, but realistic, and could easily be accomplished over a couple of years. The proposal also opens up new untapped revenue streams, and pulls guests down towards that end of the park without pissing off the neighbours, something which is badly needed. Well done, look forward to seeing what you submit for the next challenge. Just in case you missed it, my vote is for MikeMac, with themeparkGC in a commendable second.
  18. What if those 2 seats we photod could have been attached to the train instead of 2 of the regular seats when the ride was closed? Don't rule it out.
  19. If what you said about pirate ship being removed form the park for a ride that ended up going to another park than I'd agree with you. Thing is though, Pirate Ship was removed long after Surfrider opened. I'm not aware that Surfrider was ever destined for that location. I wonder does that change your opinion in any way?
  20. To be fair, coasters aren't what Dreamworld are good at, but if you make a poll for best ride which also includes Giant Drop, Claw, and (for me even if no one else agrees) Wipeout, then you'll see Deamworld perform much better. Not that I think a new poll should be made, but just saying that it's silly to see Dreamworld is a lessor park because of a poor showing here.
  21. Corkscrew's height restriction used to be 122cm, and kids who just made the mark would often ride and then reride. 130cm is the restriction for Sea Viper, which is IMHO too high for the ride, and is another reason why I wouldn't be said if the ride were to go. Jet Rescue has a restriction of 125cm, which is why I chose that number; the most thrilling rides at SW should have as low a height restriction as possible, because SW attracts more families with young kids, and as many of those kids as possible should be able to go on as many of the rides as possible. As for which park has the highest, well I can say, DW has the lowest height restrictions (120cm for 5 of the big 7) and Movie World has the highest with 140cm for SM, GL, and LW. Anyway, I don't want this to turn into a height restriction debate, all I'm saying is the restriction should be an important factor when deciding what ride a park should get, and for that reason I say Surfrider fits better at WnW, and you'll have to do an amazing job to convince me otherwise.
  22. I don't think any ride with a height requirement higher than 125cm would fit Sea World. The theme park water thing doesnt bother me, and Surf rider fits with the thrill seekers at wnw better than it would fit the families with small kids crowd at sw IMHO.
  23. You realize that the whole area is themed to the American western movies right? So if you put Australian bushrangers in then there'll be either a themeing mismatch; or you'd have to junk pretty much everything that's there.
