  1. Well not a major but definitely a smaller attraction!! With this in mind I can make my list- Luna Park Sydney Luna Park Melbourne Dreamworld Seaworld Movie World Wet and Wild White Water World Aussie World Jamberoo Action Park Smaller Parks/Attractions Scenic World Infinity Draculas Haunted House Defunct/Closed Wonderland Sydney Sega World Old Sydney Town Manly Fun Pier Grundy's FOX Studios Backlot Overseas Blackpool Pleasure Beach Disneyland Paris
  2. Just beat me to it!! I would say that definitely Jamberoo Action Park should be included. It is is large enough and has a good range of attractions to be considered a "major" here in Australia.
  3. In order to keep pace with Movie World, Dream World need another major ride installation. Something unique and different from what the opposition is offering. A Wooden coaster would seem like the logical install, and yes initially it would be great but these rides are hugely labour intensive and expensive to maintain, and Dream World's track history on maintaining rides is sketchy at best. That said , I feel that a full circuit coaster should be the next big ride install to come to Dream World. Of course there are many options if they are going to pursue this route, but a Intamin Megalite or the Mack clone , as Gazza suggested, would be a great starting point. Both these rides should be well within Dream World's ability to afford. Of course, if the sky's the limit then of course a Flying Coaster ( waiting for the sarcastic replies- you know who you are!) or a full circuit Hyper coaster would definitely do great things for Dream World's public and international profile.
  4. Just to add to the discussion, I have just had official confirmation from LPS that they are indeed installing a lighting suite on Hair Raiser and that they will also be adding improvements to the queue area as well!! This is great news!! JulieLovis original information she received from the Ride Op is quite correct, which just goes to prove that SOMETIMES Ride Ops can be a mine of useful information!!! Looking forward to the improvements!!
  5. Well for starters I wasn't the only one who disliked the tone of your response to WipeOutFanDreamWorld. It was actually Skeetafly who first took you to task regarding the way you respond to people when you post. So no, its nothing to do with noses out of joint- I have nothing to have my nose out of joint over. My issue is the tone that you use when you post to certain people- hell did you even read my previous post?? ( Obviously not which follows your arrogance perfectly) If you feel that your previous post was overly tactful then you have a more serious problem than I realised. I will go short of saying that you are a complete fuckwit who only sucks up the mods arse when it suits him and is the first to jump on ANYONE when you feel they have made ANY transgression and tactful is just NOT in your dictionary. Your ego is so huge that you can never , ever admit when you make a mistake ( not unless a mod points it out whereby you fall over yourself ensuring that you stay in their good books.) This behaviour has been going on for years and as I have pointed out in my previous post, the contents of which you ignored ( par for the course for you) is really starting to hamper my enjoyment of the boards and many others who visit here. I have taken you to task on the guidelines and forum friendliness before and I have no issue i doing it again. Please start ensuring that you treat EVERYONE with respect or I will make a formal complaint regarding your behaviour to the mods. I get that you have been here for a long time- well pop quiz for you buddy- I have been on this board for longer than you. Keep your ego in check and your arrogance to a minimum and we will get on just fine. I am sure that many other posters feel the same , especially the ones who have been burnt out of order for no particular reason by yourself. You are not a mod and you need to learn the art of tact and respect. I am sure that this will fall on deaf ears and yet am happy to meet you half way and to show mutual respect- sadly I do not think that you will be willing to do so in any conciliatory way.
  6. Well said Skeetafly!! I don't think one request for a photo constitutes a major hassle or transgression- this type of bullying needs to be eliminated from the boards. Certain posters certainly act like they are a pseudo moderators at times and this can really discourage new members from posting, which is a damn shame. This type of arrogance I feel, must be reigned in. I would rather see the moderators deal with this in a much more tactful and respectful way than some of the examples that we have seen in the past!! Let's keep these boards free from needless bullying and ensure it remains a respectful place for anyone to discuss our common interests of theme Park's and the industry. These boards are about the whole community and not about a select few letting their egos run riot every time they post! I applaud the stance sir!!
  7. Hmm wonder why Sea World is the exception here??
  8. Yep happy to move on. The discussion is pointless anyway since you seem refuse to acknowledge any one else's opinion or view especially when it differs from your own. The fact that myself and 2 other posters interpreted the meaning of your SECOND POST ( just to clarify which WAS the one I quoted , NOT your first post, which was in response to Santa07) really validates that this second post WAS either, a) incorrect or misinterpreted from what you originally meant. That's not our fault and you should certainly care how your posts are elucidated. I certainly DID read your post after that which clarified your position on where "Cyclone was built" but its funny that this clarification came AFTER 3 posters had questioned your answer. Doesn't this imply that your meaning was NOT exactly clear?? I think we do have differences of meaning of the word usage you described- in my mind ride envelope refers to the space directly under and including the extension of the ride and land or territory is the space outside the ride envelope but is still considered part of the ride overall. In my mind, Cyclone does NOT sit in Thunderbolt's ride envelope as shown by the subsequent pic, but a small portion of the helix DOES protrude onto Thunderbolt land. To me this is a fairly logical assumption, but I am happy to explain it again if you wish. This is a point I have raised again as you seemingly ignored it the first time. Really this is an discussion about the use and interpretation of language. Usually I am quite happy to let things like this slide but in this instance, I wanted to get MY opinion across. When it is blatantly ignored that's when I care. I knew that this was playing with fire as in the past, you do tend to react rather badly when questioned on anything. Please note that there is nothing personal in this- I really enjoy your posts and you always bring a different perspective to the forums and your knowledge is vast and extensive. I do expect that you will not resist another long and verbose reply but since you tried to effectively shut down any of my rebuttal in your last post, we will just have to agree to disagree. I just want to make it absolutely clear that I bear you no rancour whatsoever. As I have stated in another thread, its really all semantics! To all other posters- I am sorry that this divergence has hijacked this thread somewhat. It will now be restored to discussing, as AlexB suggested, to new attractions for the Gold Coast Theme Parks. Cheers!
  9. Nah AlexB that was not the quote I was referring to-I was merely referring to the one above in which you intimated , that Cyclone was built entirely within Thunderbolts ride envelope and entirely on Thunderbolt land. That's how it reads and thats why myself,Themeparkgc and Gary86 sought to gently clarify and correct with our postings. Since then we have definitively ascertained that Cyclone was built on reclaimed land on the overflow carpark and that a small section of the helix protruded onto Thunderbolt territory but NOT its ride envelope. This information and confirmation does NOT support your above statement no matter how you read it.
  10. Great pic RAC2703 well done!! Given the fact that the ride only extends onto Thunderbolt land ( as opposed to the ride envelope) by a small section of the helix , that pic clearly illustrates that over 95% ( and I am being fairly conservative here) of Cyclone was built on the reclaimed land as was originally posted. I think it is more accurate to say that the Cyclone was built on land acquired for the new ride and not "thunderbolt land being taken up by Cyclone" Sorry AlexB, I still have to disagree with your original proposition as I don't think that pic supports what you originally posted!!
  11. Themeparkgc you are absolutely correct. Cyclone was erected over what was formerly the overflow carpark. In the years before WWW opened, you could still see the remnants of the carpark situated in between the first drop and turnaround. Cyclone was very close to Thunderbolt but it NEVER encroached on any land that was utilised by the ride. Cylcone was built on reclaimed land only. Gary86 was 100% right in his initial posting quote name="AlexB" post="95906" timestamp="1397784504"] The space from Thunderbolt was long since taken over by Cyclone and WhiteWaterWorld. The last time we'd heard about Vortex, it was sitting in pieces in storage out the back behind Tiger Island White Water World maintenance bay.
  12. To be fair it does say "it's a flagship ride" not THE flagship ride. It's all semantics!! I have no real issue with this statement, as Richard has already pointed out, from Dreamworlds perspective, it is inherently true!! Time to move on!!
  13. Nice!! This looks like a nice little park with some great features- the Gold Mine coaster looks pretty interesting!!! They just need a new coaster to give them a litke more international attention and this would be a park well worth visiting!! Excellent news about the new addition!
  14. Well a quick peruse of the same model on RCDB puts a price anywhere between $2 Million and $4 Million US Dollars. That would have to be adjusted for inflation and current market prices. I am interested in other board members views as well- if the Tumblebug site became available exactly what coaster would you guys like to see??
  15. JulieLovis I have always maintained that one of the best options for a new coaster at LPS would be a Maurer Sohne Spinner ( Of which their are several models). They provide reasonable thrills yet are still accessible to the whole family. Their ride footprint isn't huge and therefore would be very suitable for LPS's needs. Also if they did install one, then this would be an Australian first- a fact that still astounds me! I cannot believe that no other park in Australia has seen the potential of this type of install. I would not theme it as a new Big Dipper either- I would name it the Wild Cat ( as a nod to LPS's famous Schwarzkopf's Wild cat coaster of the 70"s, which according to popular rumour, is still in existence on a property in the Hunter Valley after being purchased in the LPS fire sale ride auction in 1980 after the Ghost train tragedy). It would be awesome to have the Wild Mouse and the Wild Cat sitting opposite each other on the midway in their respective elevated positions. Please see this for further info https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4lySuWfvDk
  16. Strictly speaking this is not the case anymore. The Luna Park site ammendment act ( noise control) , that was introduced in 2005 limits any litigation against the park arising from noise complaints. It also removes any right of appeal. Essentially this means that LPS can build any thrill ride within its boundaries, of any height and the residents cannot object on the grounds of noise. This is why the recent introduction of the Hair Raiser drop ride has not raised any public objections. In saying that, LPS is trying to find a middle ground with the residents to keep coexistence as peaceful as possible. Peter Hearne, the managing director of LPS has been quoted in the media as saying that Hair Raiser could have been twice the size it currently is, but Luna Park is trying to keep the residents placated by not building anything too controversial. So in summary will LPS ever build a coaster the size of Big Dipper/Cyclone again? Unlikely but it certainly wouldn't be noise restrictions that would prevent them from doing so ( space would be more of an issue). However a compact coaster on the Tumble bug site is definitely an option I think the park could and would explore and if the park did have a desire to install one in this place, the residents would have little legal options to prevent it. For a close look at the act please seehttp://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/parlment/nswbills.nsf/1d4800a7a88cc2abca256e9800121f01/fffe1eec2154ff62ca2570970021435e?OpenDocument
  17. I agree completely Gazza!! Although I have never ridden one, I reckon they look like an awesome ride experience!! I love their small footprint- these rides are perfect for both our Luna Park's where space is at a premium!! This ride would IMHO be one of the best possible additions for LPS in regards to a new coaster- it just ticks all the right boxes!! Curious AlexB- why the hatred for the Zacspin?? You have the advantage as you obviously have experienced one.......
  18. Well we are not talking huge coasters but there are many compact coasters that I believe would be ideal for this space. If you look at the Wild Mouse space across the midway, you will see that the Tumblebug space is of a similar size. There are many examples of compact coasters from Zamperla, Mack,Pinfari,Maurer Sohne and Gerstlauter that would be brilliant additions to LPS. An Intamin Zacspin would easily fit in this space and be an Australian first! Food for thought!! Hopefully LPS management have the same vision and forward planning in their 5 year future strategy for the park.
  19. Gee I wonder where you got that brilliant idea from?? Good to see you read the WHOLE thread from the beginning......
  20. That's good news JulieLovis. It seems odd that the lighting suite was not installed with the ride before opening but at least there are plans to get one on the ride. I thought that this was a major opportunity lost when the ride opened and no lighting was apparent. This is the first major ride installation since 1995 and it now dominates the LPS skyline. Very glad to see that at night it will add to the wall of colour and atmosphere that LPS is famous for!!
  21. I don't think that any potential buyer of Reef Diver is required to replace any parts- its in perfectly good condition as is!!
  22. The answer to that in short form is no. I commented on the lack of lighting in an earlier post/trip report. It is one feature which I thought LPS would have ensured Hair Raiser would have been designed with- a great lighting suite to really highlight the ride at night. I am guessing that they had the residents best interests at heart and decided to make Hair Raiser as low impact as possible!
  23. Yeah thats the way I took it too. This only applies to the Village parks however, and as this has been discussed on these forums many times, Dreamworld are much more realistic with their height restrictions on their attractions.
