The plausible scenario in which Dreamworld closes permanently
Good article Richard. I see selling as a distinct possibility, maybe to Wanda or another operator looking to enter the Australian market. There is no doubt the park will be worth less in 6-12 months than it was worth 8 days ago, and the value will likely continue to drop until a significant capital expenditure occurs to draw crowds back. With Ardents focus on ME in the US, I can't see them persisting with any significant investment in a business that is seeing attendances & consumer confidence drop. DW is prime for the picking imo.. and Ardent pay just decide the best idea is to get through the current investigation, let some time pass, and then cut & run and let someone else try and restore the park to its glory

Advertisements have to be accurate? Every infomercial ever created, every 'Biggest Sale Ever' campaign, and Sea Monkeys prove that not to be the case.

Given private certifiers can approve attractions as opposed to council, any postponement of rides etc would only be through the choice of the park.

Yep - also reporting that Heath & Safety have to sign off the ride before they begin construction.... hmmm, well over a month worth of work has already happened.. that wouldn't have happened if they didn't already have the necessary approvals

2016 for Movie World
She wasn't born an adult, so clearly she does grow older. Wonder Woman isn't immortal, she is, however, long-lived. Most comics date her at approximately 85 years old at the time when Batman/Superman are in their 30s. Good Genes I guess..

I'd argue that the large majority of the general public, hell i would go as high as 90%, don't consider ToT a roller coaster anyway. If you asked them what's the tallest roller coaster in Australia, most would try and pick an answer from their brain from a choice of SE or AA GCB report Warner Bros Movie World theme park’s next attraction to be a 200-foot tall ‘hyper coaster’ ANDREW POTTS, Gold Coast Bulletin 32 minutes ago A PLAN to build the Gold Coast’s tallest thrill ride – more than 60 metres high – will have to pass stringent new safety checks before work can start, following last week’s Dreamworld tragedy. Movie World’s next attraction is expected to be a “hyper-coaster”, a large-scale variant of the traditional roller coaster which will either have a height or drop of more than 60 metres and would be the nation’s tallest. Vaughan, Ontario, Canada - July 26, 2014: People riding the Leviathan rollercoaster at Canada's Wonderland amusement park It will be the first new attraction to come under the State Government’s safety blitz on theme park attractions, announced last week after four people were killed on the Thunder River Rapids Ride. Workplace Health and Safety Queensland experts have to assess and approve plans for the new ride before work can start. This photo provided by Cedar Point Amusement Park shows the Valravn, the new roller coaster that's opening to the public on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. The roller coaster has already broken records. It's now recognized as the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster. Picture: Jordan Sternberg/Cedar Point Amusement Park via AP The safety blitz will primarily focus on older rides and will include the Gold Coast’s other parks, as well as Australia Zoo and Aussie World on the Sunshine Coast. Helensvale-based company Alder Construction has advertised for subcontractor and supplier pricing for the new Movie World project, beginning yesterday. The project is expected to be open within a year and is one of several multi-million new attractions planned for the park, including a $35-million golf facility, hotel and new carpark. Imagine staring down this drop — This is the view from the top of the Goliath Hyper Coaster at Six Flags, Illinois in the US. Construction is expected to be a matter of months away, with avid theme park watchers already snapping photographs of crates at the park from German roller coaster manufacturer Mack Rides. Mack is the company responsible for another Movie World attraction, the Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster, as well as Sea World’s Storm Coaster. Movie World is a hive of activity with construction occurring near its front entrance. Picture: Richard Gosling Village Roadshow yesterday failed to answer questions about the attraction including when it will open, or when construction would begin. “Warner Bros. Movie World is looking forward to making an exciting announcement in the near future,” a company spokesman said. Riding a Hyper Coaster The new project would eclipse Movie World’s tallest coaster, the Superman Escape by at least 21m. In September, a development and building application was filed with the Gold Coast City Council for a “themed entertainment, ride and retail outlet” at the park. The online Roller Coaster Database lists plans for a steel-structured, sit-down “extreme” roller coaster. The front gates of Movie World are set to have plenty of extra patrons passing through it, with a series of new attractions planned for the park. The Bulletin understands representatives of the theme park have met with the council to discuss plans for the park. In June, plans for a $35m golf attraction with US entertainment company Topgolf were unveiled, with the facility set to open in late 2017. Spanning 6ha (15 acres) of land next to Movie World, Topgolf will be in the same precinct as the hotel and lake precinct and is expected to attract an extra 500,000 people a year. Village Roadshows CEO of Theme Parks Tim Fischer in June said the company was planning an announcement of “significant gross capital cost” for the park.

Sea World updates 2016
Slow the ride down to increase ride time.. have you ever visited SW in summer peak season? It's a good hour wait to ever get on that ride and you want to purposely slow cycle times??

Sea World updates 2016
can only think that they are doing a major refurb on it, maybe a retheme? You wouldn't imagine it would be due to a new attraction or ride as most of the ride envelope and surrounds are utilised.

Funerals will take place this week as the deceased were released to the families over the weekend. From all accounts the safety checks begun Saturday, I don't imagine it will take weeks to sign off the park unless there are issues that arise

Speculation and media beat ups - Thunder River Rapids incident
The only way I see commercial partners jumping out of their contracts would be if the inquest finds blatant and documented evidence of poor/inconsistent/fraudulant maintenance and/or records of maintenance. At this stage I don't believe there to be evidence of such.

I really don't see much point to your line of questioning. the gap between slats was certainly well short of a metre. At 1.75m you'd have had every 2nd boat flipping. a 170cm person falling over a void that is 75cm wide would not likely fall through providing they had the use of their arms and hands (i.e. Conscious). You'd only likely fall through if you fell and went down head first. I don't think talk of dismemberment is what we should be talking about here personally.

Speculation and media beat ups - Thunder River Rapids incident
As you guys just mentioned, clearing the whole area and starting from scratch (minus a re-themed Buzzsaw) would make the most sense, fix the current issue with SNBO attractions, remove the 'stigma' of the area, including the hundreds of comments saying the area looks so old & rusty (ugh, that was the point..) only thing is, I don't see Ardent/Main Event wanting to splash that much investment into the park anytime soon, especially with the financial losses that have come about in the past week, those which will only get greater over the coming 12 months, as well as a no doubt drop in attendance and annual pass sales. Ardent have shown an 'interest' in selling their theme park division previously, I think anytime in the next 12 months they are ripe for the picking, with a deflated value due to what has occurred meaning a potential buyer can purchase and invest the savings into the park Imo, and not based on any inside knowledge, DW will have new owners with 2 years, and then we'll see some significant investment.

I personally don't believe we'll see TRR operational again. If It was a ride that was recently extensively refurbed, or a newer addition to the park, then potentially they'd look at the recent investment and deem it too valuable or a waste of ROI to close it for good, but neither of those scenarios are true. The ONLY way I could see it reopening would be for basically an entirely new ride to be basically be built using the shell/troughs of TRR. New theme, new name, new boats, and most importantly no conveyor (it would cause WAY too much innuendo/questions/skepticism) or at least no conveyor used with passengers still on board

Movie World Fright Nights 2016
^^^ you wrote your comment in a quote box with my name on it. Now I look like the crazy one.. the final night party was a 'day of the dead' party. the theme is probably a little morbid, even if only by name, given what occurred last week. It was the correct decision. The overnighter at Silverwood Lab was no relevance or Perceived to be tasteless, unless there was some tragedy in a laboratory recently I've missed. As for no being fair, nothing about life is fair, nor is it meant to be. If this cancellation is the first of life's little challenges to show you that, then you've had a sweet cruise of ride til this point (and don't call me Buster, I'm not a dog).

Speculation and media beat ups - Thunder River Rapids incident
Snippet of an article on GCB website from a witness. Didn't copy all of it as most has been posted previously but this one doesn't seem To give a level of insight THE ACCIDENT “The empty tube was totally stuck (on the conveyor belt), like if you had a boat on a sandbar,” Ben said. “It was as if there was not enough water to move it and then the tube with the people hit it and flipped (upright). “The two men were sitting at the back of the tube, so they just went straight between two conveyor belts. I knew in my mind they didn’t stand a chance. “The two women were at the top of the (upright) raft and were thrown into the water away from that area. Obviously the velcro straps (on the raft) aren’t the tightest of things. “It was a miracle the children survived. They were beside each other and the positioning of the tube when it happened meant they were on the right-hand side. They sort of got flung out but I don’t know where they landed and I didn’t see anyone get them out (of the water). “All I was able to see were the adults and there was no way the men could have survived.” What about the women? Police at the scene after the accident. Picture: AAP “At first I thought they might have stood a chance because I didn’t see them sustain injuries but it all happened within seconds. They stopped the conveyor belt and everyone was doing everything they could. “It took some time to drain the water and the (partner) of one of the women was trying to climb down to get her. He was covered in dirt and I remember him holding her in his arms.” That woman was Kate Goodchild, whose partner had skipped the ride to look after their eight-month-old. Their other daughter was one of the children who survived. “The first thing I noticed was her running out screaming, ‘Where’s my mummy? Where’s my mummy?’,” Ben said of 12-year-old Ebony. “Two women tried to console her but she was hysterical after what took place.” With tarps erected to shield the scene and emergency services on their way, Ben and about 30 other witnesses were ushered away. “What I saw was enough,” he said. “You just can’t believe what was happening in front of your eyes.” Police at the scene on the third day into the investigation of the fatal accident on the Thunder River Rapids ride. Picture: NIGEL HALLETT THE WATER Ben is the first to admit he’s not an engineer or mechanic. That said, he knows what he saw that day. “The water level on the rapids was low enough for me to notice,” he said. “I think there probably was something wrong with a pump or some water intake on the day … if there had been more water on that conveyor belt, the (empty) raft might have kept moving.” Ben is also a Dreamworld regular with a long memory. “In the last six to eight months that ride has been out of action about four or five times when I’ve been there,” he said. “I was there in April and noticed it was offline and there was no water in it. A previous time I got stuck halfway around and they had to let us all out. “In my experience there have been issues with the ride but unfortunately nothing’s going to bring those poor people back.”

Didn't drive into MW so only saw what was visible driving down Entertainment Rd. did my first ever Paradise Country trip today, pleasant, relaxing half day out. Nice little additions to the annual passes. On a side note, today was wrap day for Thor 3, so if you haven't see the sets yet and went a squizz, best head down this weekend as it'll all be splinters by early next week (assuming they don't work the weekend). All the set pieces and props around the sound stages were being torn apart today
