  1. Well Kingpin has only recently opened in SE QLD, and it’s all the way in Chermside. If it was located closer maybe it would have had the same reaction? In saying that, Kingpin isn’t THAT far removed from AMF. Top Golf ticks boxes as it is 1. Close to the theme parks 2. Close to the tourist centre 3. Far removed from anything else available on the GC or Brisbane 4. A fairly well known brand for those than have been to the US or have an interest in golf 5. It’s being marketed well by VTP
  2. So had my first ride on the ‘new’ boats yesterday. Loading and unloading is painfully slow and terribly thought out. No physical barrier at the top of your stairs and ride op at the bottom constantly telling people to not stand at the top of the stairs but instead stand back before the stairs. Stupidity. Sometimes passengers desembarked in the traditional unload platform, whereas sometimes they got off on the loading spot (no idea why given only one channel/side is in operation). Boats constantly overshot the loading platform too, well not overshot it, but because of the stupid frame for the roof there wasn’t enough room between the platform barriers and the frame to get into the front seat - they literally had people getting in the back and climbing over the seat divider to get to the front! Due to the inefficient unloading - there was a constant backup of logs, and apparently no stacking/blocking design as empty boats constantly collided with boats people were attempting to climb into. all in all - it’s stupid, and whilst I am no insurance assessor, my honest belief is that there is far more chance of an injury or incident in the current form of loading than there ever was before
  3. Love how informative that poster is...
  4. I believe that’s the point... everyone on the Gold Coast is well versed in the “If it’s flooded, forget it” tagline which appears everywhere during storm season. This basically is a way of using the councils own public safety campaign against the development.
  5. Interesting seeing these pop up around the place in the last week or so...
  6. In news that seemed to slip thru the cracks... 2 tiger cubs were born at DW last week. Which is great news... They’ll be on public show in a few weeks when they find a way to encase them in Perspex in a way that doesn’t inhibit their walking..
  7. Well done Macquarie... The fact at hand is that RHLR would have continued to operate on its merry way under the status quo had the TRR accident not occurred. i can also say it’s fact that had the TRR incident not occurred we wouldn’t have seen: - the side rails on the big red boat raised a good 40cm higher than they were - those ridiculous harnesses installed on Shockwave. - the new kiddie Ferris wheel being ridiculously fitted out with seatbelts and Perspex to ensure a toddler doesn’t somehow incapacitate their supervising adult, climb a cage and jump off. The relationship between the TRR incident and DW’s over-zealous safety intricacies is a cause & effect relationship - not a correlation. One wouldn’t have occurred without the other.
  8. Oh... so you are saying that if the TRR incident had not occurred that RHLR would still have been shut down on 25/10/16 for 14 months? Haha... keep telling yourself that. The issues are entirely related. DW closed down and blocked off any path with eyesight of RHLR as it decided any connotation with a water based ride would be a bad impression or envoke a negative connotation for guests. It’s closure had jack all to do with its safety and everything to do with DW’s image. These ridiculous roofs, I mean “safety improvements”, are simply to appease the masses - if they were in response to the moron who fell out and nearly drowned they would have been required prior to it re-opening back in 2016.
  9. Good to see they’ve included a completed Top Golf and parking
  10. If the accident and fatalities had occurred on RHLR I’d probably say TRR would likely have not operated again given the scope for safety issues to occur was larger on TRR then RHLR, so they wouldn’t have taken the risk. We’ve seen it take 14 months post TRR for the log ride to open... I can only imagine the timeframe if it had been the other way around.
  11. Quietly anticipating the “no bumping rule” on the dodgem cars - “you can dodge, but you can’t bump”. In order to safeguard people from whiplash, riders must wear headgear and only 2 cars will be allowed in the dodgem arena at any one time, and sensors will shut the ride off if one car comes within 5m of the other. Capacity maxes out at 48 riders per hour...
  12. Seat belts inside a fully enclosed kiddie Ferris wheel?? Ridiculous
  13. School holidays and re-opening day seems a strange time to be running with off peak operations....
  14. My guess is you are referring if the pictured but no longer existing surfboards on Wipeout? FWIW, I got the same email & my passes don’t expire until June
  15. At 35 id say you are still a few years short of middle aged Alex... my 33 yr old self doesn’t like that that term could be thrown in my direction in 2 years. Gotta be over 40 at least to be middle aged.
  16. RHLR still doesn’t have lap bars.. this change has nothing to do with lap bars... Last time I checked having a roof doesn’t secure you inside the boat... that tells you this change has been made to somehow mitigate a rollover causing submergance of guests in the water. The chances of a rollover occurring on a log ride, therefore requiring a mitigating redundancy, is clearly illustrated by the complete lack of this feature in any other log ride in the world.
  17. Disagree Skeet, but as I prefaced, I haven’t seen it done elsewhere to have a comparison. It could have been the worse water/laser/light show in the world but it’s all I’ve seen. unsure how you could make the claim of under-utilised lasers - I’ve seen a few laser light shows before and some of the laser projections onto the water spray - especially the rolling waves and the awesome depth they got on the barrels - were great and better than I’ve seen before. I do agree the song selection could certainly have been better - but from my experience, the lights timed in pretty well to the music to me - as did the pyro. maybe I have super low expectations, or maybe you are being overly critical? Truth probably someone in the middle!
  18. So made it to Carnivale tonight, I enjoyed it. I thought overall it was a vast improvement on last year due to the Aqua Colour light show. Not having seen vivid in Sydney or any such water show before - I thought it was amazing. Hopefully they build on that base for 2019 and make some changes to the food offerings which remained the same to last year. Certainly glad I found the secret to getting out of the car park easily - not parking in it. I parked in Phillip Park carpark literally opposite SW. We left our seats at the conclusion of Aquacolour at 8:45pm, and I was already merging onto the M1 from Smith St by 9:02pm. Given the “carpark full” signs were up by 6:15 - I imagine there are some poor souls still trying to get out...
  19. Doomsday is a fun little flat. Motorsports area, well I guess it’s ok if you’re into that kinda thing. Rivals queue shouldn’t be long at all. Especially on Wednesday once all the kids are back at school. Enjoy your trip!
  20. Dreamworld has already made it pretty clear that their intention, at least in the short to medium term, is not to compete with Movieworld on thrills and coasters. They are focusing on the family and experienced market. With Ardent’s long term involvement with DW far from certain, they won’t be dropping $40m+ on a coaster
  21. You clearly don’t have kids @themeparkaddict and hopefully you’ve got more between your ears before you do... a small kids flat ride is not installed to have a massive impact on your attendance. It’s to offer a further attraction to a key demographic in the park, a demographic that DW well and truly offers more for than MW. It’s focusing on its strengths, that is its family/young kids offering - that is smart business. to say a ride is a waste of money because the target demographic is under “parental authority” laughs in the face of the majority of Disneyland
  22. Because ABC Kids world isn’t about family rides, it’s about toddler/kids rides (ie 2-10). MDMC doesn’t suit this demographic at all. The “BIG 9” doesn’t have to exclude family rides. Whilst MDMC wouldn’t be considered a thrill ride to me, it would be a an older child/young teenager
  23. opening next year = 744 days to deliver the ride... you could build a 40,000 seat football stadium in that time frame. I don’t think they are anywhere close to reaching “damn we better get started” yet...
