  1. "Hey it's the stripper from the kids show!" (one of my fave lines ever)
  2. I think you are wrong about that. Flames were certainly planned - they just weren't ever delivered for whatever reason. Didn't we decide it had something to do with safety around commissioning?
  3. It was too long. I got through the first paragraph then gave up.
  4. What a WASTE of a truly massive dark ride building. I'm sorry but it would be ridiculous if they kept using it as a maintenance/storage shed. Find somewhere else for that! They did before! This building encroaches heavily into the park itself and therefore needs to be utilised as a major attraction.
  5. I think the term theme park is fairly loosely used these days. Wet 'n' Wild Sydney were referring to themselves as a water theme park, despite ZERO theming in the park. It couldn't be less themed if it tried. So I think it's about how the park wants to position itself, and clearly 'theme park' gives an impression of something major and of a certain quality.
  6. ^ Exactly, it wouldn't date. I think this one is a no brainer. It makes so much sense and would be a huge drawcard. It would also give the park a much needed additional brand/theme. Take the focus off DC comics. A lego dark ride would be absolutely perfect; what a shame they are apparently giving the Looney Tunes building over to the kids car ride. Such a waste of a massive dark ride building
  7. Thanks for the information Richard. I hadn't realised Sea World had had its best ever January. That makes me feel much better. They certainly deserve it with Storm Coaster
  8. According to this article about the impact of Wet 'n' Wild Sydney on rivals, Dreamworld has done fairly well over the past year, including a 20% lift in January. I don't get the general public; no new attractions and a deteriorating park leads to an attendance boost: http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-news/wetnwild-rivals-face-dip-in-trade-20140308-34e21.html
  9. ...and I'm not in the least bit surprised: http://www.smh.com.au/business/wetnwild-theme-park-makes-6m-profit-in-weeks-20140218-32xpj.html
  10. You're talking as if the car ride has been definitely scrapped, rather than just delayed... I don't think we know either way yet.
  11. Such a waste of such a massive show building. Could build an amazing dark ride
  12. Well that's stupid. The whole point of a family raft slide is that it's a family RAFT slide. Now it's turning into some weird hybrid. Seems like ProSlide have really stuffed up here. Although I do wonder if WnW is being overly cautious in the case of the family slides?
  13. The saga continues: http://m.smh.com.au/nsw/wetnwild-security-chief-quits-after-revelation-he-lives-with-successful-tenderer-20140118-311l8.html
  14. 3-8pm is just weird for a theme park. It's not some amateur operation. It should be open the whole day; it's still summer, and they're closed for the rest of the year anyway
  15. The article mentions that the 600,000 figure does not include event and function patrons, just the amusement park. Not bad for a small park, and new rides should only increase that number!
  16. Thanks Gazza, sounds good. Is the water dump working again?
  17. Something seriously dodgy going on at WnW. Heads need to roll. Latest story: http://m.smh.com.au/nsw/security-alarm-went-off-before-wetnwild-nye-party-20140111-30nmh.html
  18. I suppose it's similar to the actual certification of new rides. They can get approval to install it, but then once built (and just prior to opening) it must be certified to ensure all safety requirements are met and the ride is functioning correctly.
  19. She certainly makes it sound like the fire might never be implemented - but that assumes she has accurate information. If that's the case, they definitely need to bring back the proper water drench scene at the end with the boats actually stopping (incl. the lights and SFX etc.), otherwise there just aren't enough features in the dark ride section
  20. YES! That danger sign drives me crazy. The rest of the theming is pretty good though. Just wish they'd get the fire and proper splash dump scene working properly (I say with authority, even though i haven't been there ).
  21. I'm not sure I agree with your statement of fact that forcing more people to buy single day tickets will increase revenue. There's a reason why parks and various other businesses offer season passes (or discounted multi-visit passes etc.), and it's not to lower revenue! The reality is it locks a lot more people in to paying a higher price than they might have otherwise. The GC parks might have ridiculously low price season passes - but revenue went up significantly when they first introduced the VIP passes, and they've kept them 'cause they're a winner in terms of revenue.
  22. I definitely don't see this doing any long term damage, as long as Village Roadshow kicks the butt of some of WnW's management team (sayanora Chris Warhurst?) and ensures it doesn't happen again. The park is no fly-by-night operation. It's $120 million worth of infrastructure that is there for the long haul. People will forget about it next year, as long as they pick up their act. I actually now think it would be a smart move to add one new slide for the next season. This would be an added distraction from the problems of this season, and add some extra capacity. Considering the park is landlocked, only one new decent slide at a time is necessary (as Gazza and I have suggested before) - and they can market the hell out of it.
  23. A run of accolades for Dreamworld? Why???????
  24. Nothing. I think we've all just given up on that park.
  25. In that article JulieLovis posted above, the Blacktown councillor is complaining about capacity issues but at the same time is calling for the ticket prices to be dropped! What a doofus. Meanwhile, here's another article questioning the whole NYE debacle: http://m.smh.com.au/nsw/wetnwild-new-years-eve-festival-questions-over-party-organisers-20140102-307y3.html
