Its a great ride! I've been on the one in Universal Florida. Its really entertaining and well done. The staff wear peasant uniforms and get you into the mood before going on the ride. It would be a great plus for Movieworld. Hulk

i am from new zealand as you should alread know but what i want to tell you, is that when i went into harvey norman, i saw a movie which had shrek flying a dragon and also the ghost of LORD FARQUAD. I don't know if this is the same as shrek 4D but theres an interesting fact for you

The DVD release is the same as this film.

oh i thought that that was so because today i walked past bond and bond(electronics store) and i saw it playing againg except this time they were advertising the dvd. thanks for that

That film has been around for a little while now, but the DVD one uses those blue and red 3d glasses rather than the LCD or polarising ones used by commercial 3D theatres.

I'm going to a black tie event at MovieWorld (for the call centre industry) on the evening of Friday 16 September !!!!! I just wonder (and pray) if we might get some special preview.... surely not ??!!! or at least we get to take a look at the Roxy from the outside.... I know some presentations will be part of the night, and I don't know where they will be held in MovieWorld.... Anyway, will get a good opportunity to take a look around I hope... Cheers, Joe.

What's the black tie event for? Will the Roxy thearter still be called that or will they change the name for the Shrek 4d? I think a new name would suit the new face lift and new film! Maybe something more Shrek-ish like? Orge's Thearter!?! The Classic Shrek 4D Thearter!?!

Roxy didn't directly tie in with Marvin the Martian - I don't think anyway. There's no reason to change the name of the theatre based on the attraction inside. You don't see Birch Carroll and Coyle, Hoyts, or Greater Union change their name to the Batman Begins cinema complex or War of the Worlds cinema complex.

black tie event is basically the national call centre awards.... they are having a conference at jupiters casino for 2-3 days, then all finishes off with the gala dinner and awards at Movieworld.... just trying to figure out which venues will be used, as I can easily see this going to 500 or more in banquet style...... have no idea where they put the super huge groups I think probably not Roxy, but anyway..... just depends whether any rides/shows are also built in as part of the night... we have no idea, and of course they don't give anything away.... but we know it will be very good !!!!

Not sure if there are any trip reports, or photos from gala events/functions at Movieworld on this site, so I will try and do what I can..... a "different" side to Movieworld when the sun goes down !!! under the influence of alcohol !!

I know the queue area of SDSC can be hired as a function space, but it's probably not the best themed area for an awards night! Maybe inside the old Maverick theatre? I'm not sure what is sitting in this space at the moment. I think the name Roxy is used because it's pretty much the traditional generic name for 1920's - 30s cinemas in a lot of movies. There are heaps around - some people will remember the old Roxy cinemas in Parramatta, Sydney which are styled in a similar art deco fashion.

I reckon you’ll be in one of two spots, and those being main street (outdoor setting) or Rick's / ITG (they are right next door to each other and when both opened up make a big space, easily fitting 500). Think pre-dinner drinks around the fountain with characters. After a few drinks (and much Superman gawking) you are lead through the park to your venue. Being black tie I’d probably be leaning towards ITG/Rick’s as most likely spot. This venue is a hard right as soon as you get into the “hub” and despite appearances, goes back a long way. If not Rick's, it'll be a Street party, out on main street with characters galore, tables set up all through the hub of the park, and of course very nicely lit up. As for Roxy, well it used to be possible to remove all the chairs from Roxy and have pretty big functions in there, however with the new show/chairs that obviously can’t be done, which is quite a shame. I have very fond memories of being in the Roxy Theater at 3am putting those chairs back in. I doubt your award ceremony will be in there since there is only 300 seats. Scooby’s queue is a pretty nice spot all done up, though might be a bit squashy for 500+. Another really cool venue, though again only for small groups, is the Wayne Manor library (the first pre-show room for Batman). You see heaps of Batman characters during pre-dinner drinks, then get to go on the ride, and by the time you finish and get back inside the library (about 15-20mins), the whole room has been set up (quite a feet in itself considering all the tables, chairs, lights and whatnot that you have for a function) for a very formal sit down dinner (7 courses).

Yes i know, but that would be point-less as the movie is only in the cinema for a couple of weeks. But we are talking about a ride/attraction which wont be replaced for a couple of years! So in this case it would suit it.

Couldn't they use one of their studios for big events like that

I was also wondering whether they would re-brand the Roxy Theatre or not. Is Shrek an adventure ride or a movie? Marvin the Martian was marketed as being a "3D movie" (and we all know that movies are played in 'theatres') whereas Shrek is being marketed as an "adventure" as opposed to a film or movie (and adventures don't take place in 'theatres'). But they'll probably leave it as the Roxy (keeps with the classic and lovable main street themeing).

The Roxy Theatre is named as such in honour of the famous theatre in Hollywood.

No one said otherwise. I'd suggest re-reading what nev said. Naturally it will stay as the Roxy Theatre, though you can expect the façade to be "Shrekked" up (as it was "Marvined" up in the past).

I've noticed that Movie World has done an update of their site for Shrek finally changing the Scooby theming that has been there since that ride opened, including a video preview (which I have since discovered to merely be the TV ad) as well as information about the story and how 4D works.

One day before opening & they haven't even put anything about it on the media centre site. It is no surprise to find they copied the info page on the park website from Universal as well - only they changed all references from Universal to Warners.

The lack of information presented at this stage has been completely out of WVTP's control. Dreamworks are very protective of their property and it has been taking longer than anticipated to get their approval on the information. All will be revealed (and then some) later today.

They can't be too protective if they're advertising an attraction before it's open.

Ten News Queensland at 5:00 pm had coverage of Shrek 4D. They showed Superman Escape as well.

After looking at the parks website they still haven't updated the map to include shrek & superman's still just a new ride coming soon (not even named).
