  1. Park Hours: 9am-10pm Sunset: 8:08pm So the ride is at it's best for less than 2 out of 13 hours, or 15% of it's operating day. Awesome. 🙌 I rewatched the comparison video last night. For me - its a few simple things that could have really made it work. Extend the mosasaurus 'tunnel' so that it is connected to the rock 'cave', making it look like the rock forms part of the tank walls. It doesn't need any other screens, just a wall that takes you into the cave, rather than coming out of the tank, having a metre of jungle and then back into the cave. A water attraction that size would have massive retaining structures, and the 'bare wall' ending just doesn't work. Bring back the popcorn compys. a little comedy in an otherwise serious and 'scary' ride is a little bit of fun. The old hadrosaur gate was directly in front of you for a long time, and now, you're faced up to -nothing-. Put a sign up there talking about hadrosaurs or something - just give people something to focus on until the hadrosaur appears and\or they turn the corner into the predator cove The Raptor enclosure is completely out of place. It doesn't belong in the Jurassic World universe. The new paddock looks like it was built with shipping containers, and they probably could have just built the gateway (seen on the left in the below image) in front of the existing set without much issue. Have a hydraulic gate half open and attempting to close with some machinery sound effects and you really add to the story A little more commentary on why we're suddenly diverted 'uphill' - Pratt's "we're going to evacuate you on the level platform ahead" is a weak attempt after you're already halfway up. The earlier screens - outside the tunnel could have had more going on (especially in such a blank area) to explain why you are going up a lift hill. I think the Rex timing is shitty. It's like it has kept it's old timing, but the boat doesn't go fast enough to time it right. The Indominus could be 'coming after you' as you edge toward the final drop, and the Rex comes out to save the day with the same 'holy shit' moment when it comes out on top of you. Most of this is minor, and wouldn't have impacted the budget too much. an extra metre or so of wall, something in the hadrosaur gate gap - even a static sign, or some additional theming elements to draw your eye. An additional script dialog for the lower screens, and some adjusted timing for Rex. The Raptor gate is the only majorly expensive change, and if it was the only thing on my list i think i'd probably overlook it, but its the difference between doing the retheme justice, and half-arseing it.
  2. Honestly, you really are a bit clueless, aren't you? So what you're saying is that the park had all of their majors operating, but several suffered ride stoppages on the same day? Its a pretty shitty coincidence, but its not like the park planned it that way. The fact that they reopened GL just before close shows they were trying their best. They could have shut rivals down for the time it took to remove the faulty train, and then you'd just be complaining that they were only running one train, but instead of shutting it down, they cycled it empty. Do you have any idea of the cost of running an empty train? It still suffers the same wear and tear on the wheels and bearings - which increases maintenance costs - which they elected to do, rather than close it, like they could have. For some people, it's free.
  3. Unfortunately it seems as though the water flows slower in Jurassic World, so they don’t stay in sync for long, but this should help with comparisons. worth noting - I’ve seen several videos of the new version now, and I don’t think the boat is supposed to stop in the final room - nor is it supposed to show the TREX twice, but you get the idea...
  4. Be warned that Superman Escape is not compatible with this option. The greeter at the entrance to the queue will ask, and many of them are pretty good at spotting 'something heavy' swinging in cargo pockets and the like. A zipper is not good enough for the Superman loose item policy and you will be required to leave the queue and get a locker. I've seen it happen - even when the guy was already seated and harnessed. For superman you'll definitely need the locker. If you get through the queue quick enough, Green Lantern can also been piggy backed off the same locker hire. The GL policy has changed several times over the years from mandatory (like superman) to 'small items only' permitted in the pigeonholes, but i have also seen small bags left on the station (exit side) so i guess it varies. On a quiet weekday, you might be fine - but you can always try GL first off with minimal queue, and if you get rejected, then you know for the rest of the day.
  5. G'day Marty, and welcome. Plan of attack depends a lot on a number of factors: which day of the week how much time you plan to spend in-park what you want to do If you have your ticket prepurchased, and you're happy for a quick once-through, you can get away with carrying minimal stuff with you. If you're planning to be in-park all day and see and do everything, and keep riding until close, you may want to carry a little more with you. Some attractions require hiring a locker (such as superman). If you're going to be hopping all over the park, having an all-day locker in a central location can be a pain, but so can continuously feeding a locker every time you want a ride. Superman is the only main attraction without a 'free' storage system: Green Lantern (small items only) Rivals (on station storage) Justice League (on board) Batwing (on station) Arkham Asylum (on station) Scooby (on board) Doomsday (on station) Wild West Falls (on board) Roxy ("on board") Road Runner (on station *i think*) An All-day locker is about $10-15 (i think there's a couple of sizes) but i do find it painful as they aren't necessarily in convenient spots - either the very front next to GL, or behind the photo shop next to Rick's. If you get a parking spot close to the gates, its almost easier to leave the park to get your stuff than spend $10-15 on a locker all day (just be sure to get a pass-out). You'll invariably purchase a refillable drink, and end up carrying that around, so a backpack is probably best. Superman is your only issue there, so get all your rides in 'in a row', cop the buck for the locker and then spend the rest of the day elsewhere. With the money you save on an all day locker, you can pick up a backwards row seat on rivals for added fun. If you're coming in on a weekday, you'll be done by lunchtime, unless you want to keep re-riding - consider checking out other nearby attractions including topgolf, Wet N Wild, and Game On. If you can expand a little more on what you're looking for, or ask more specific questions, i'm sure you'll find some helpful, (and some not so helpful tongue in cheek) comments to help you on your way. cheers.
  6. To be honest, that's a better look there, than in a turn of the century main street.
  7. Going to have to disagree with you. It's a case of "remove all the animatronics, and replace them with screens" "but what do we do with all these leftover animatronics?" "just shove it in the final scene". The 'water tank' doesn't fit it's surroundings. They give the impression that the Mosasaurus is swimming 'under' you. While the effect is well done, and the imagery is very realistic, the scene prior to and after it just don't blend. In the previous incarnation, the story was a 'tour' of the park, and the intention was to visit the Hadrosaur enclosure, through a 'fake' portal, but a crashed boat, flashing lights and warning announcements sent you to a 'back alley' past the Velociraptors. In the new version, the pretence of the hadrosaur enclosure is gone (but the Hadrosaur out front remains) and the 'predator' path is presented as the intended path. The first thing you see is the Velociraptor cage from Jurassic PARK, which doesn't exist in Jurassic WORLD as the enclosure in JW is very different. The Indominus gates are right beside the Trex gates, despite them being nowhere near each other in the movie, and the gates for indominus are bent, as if they were forced open, but they're bent the wrong way. The next section, a scene of gas tanks, and the car falling down the cliff in the previous iteration is replaced with... well... nothing? A whole lotta blank, made up for by 3 flat screens. This is a huge practical set, and we've blanked the walls and everything else in favour of watching TV? You then enter the Trex enclosure, and immediately go up hill... because ride. There are TVs everywhere in this 'evacuation' because every park in the world ensures they have video uplinks to their evacuation areas, which are of course monitored and featuring our favourite Universal celebrities (i'm surprised they didn't find a way to slip Jimmy Fallon in there), and the 'endless tunnel' with the psych out drop is replaced with... well... nothing. Oh, wait - there's a raptor in there... but its the same, just with added sparks. Now we have dilophasaurus, indominus, and a bunch of stuff going on (why?) followed by Rex coming out of the waterfall (again) except this time he comes out well before you're at the edge, and the scare you get when he's right on top of you is replaced by 'oh, there's a t-rex over there' and of course his programmed movements are pretty well over by the time you get to the precipice. Splash. In summary, I hate what they have done with this one, and ask - why is universal ruining everything just for the sake of new ip, video screens and celebrity appearances?
  8. There are many examples of new government legislation and regulations that have transition phases. I think that's all Strop was advocating.
  9. Definitely the managers fault. He should have done what all the other managers did - keep putting bandaids on things to keep it running despite any safety mumbo jumbo.
  10. So it DOES tell you that either there's no information to provide, or there is but the person responding doesn't know or isn't allowed to share it?
  11. Not gonna lie - probably a good thing.
  12. Just calling it how it is.
  13. Who said it was the wrong place? This is an opinion. According to Push, everyone is entitled to have one unless he disagrees with it. I expressed mine that it probably could have gone into off-topic topic... you know: And before we bring it up: i won't pull the dictionary definition, but its a bigger stretch than "Dreamworld's Big 9" if you want to say my comment was chastising him. The last off-topic discussion was about the screen in MW, which had 5 on-topic posts about the thread. I haven't bothered to count but this probably got a similar number. While we're on the topic of moderating - "the latest dreamworld stuff-up" as a topic could relate to so many things (it's dreamworld), and could very easily become a mega thread as others use it to post "the latest dreamworld stuff up". Happy Friday everyone!
  14. Probably could have been posted in off-topic or random threads - didn't really need it's own (although I do appreciate the opportunity for train humor)... the only reason the thread has gotten this many replies is because the very "silly" nature of it.
  15. First I'd feel denial, then anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. How would you feel if they put the hotdog stand outside road runner?
  16. Honestly, I don't think it would be possible without an extensive rebuild... Both the funnel itself and the flume drop is in the way of a direct line to the station There's no 'return' section of the pool to allow the rafts to head in that direction naturally the current walkway and queueline would likely be in the way, or be obstructed by it. All in all its a poor design, and a quick look at the green room shows the change in thought to fit a conveyor in. I personally prefer the 'drop' on Tornado over Green Room, and I know there's other tornado variants that still allow for such a drop while having a conveyor - but there's no feasible way to add a conveyor to this particular model - you'd almost be better off knocking it down and completely rebuilding a new one specifically designed for it.
  17. Perhaps an emerging theme.. Stagnated...Fright Nights.... Wet N Wild....
  18. I think where @Zanstabar is coming from is having been spoiled by Orlando based scares, the gold coast seems tame. But the argument is double edged - because if Orlando, and hollywood, and so on keep churning out such a popular product, its a bit of a cop-out to say the gold coast mazes aren't getting worse, and its just down to age and experience.

  20. I'll gloss over the Aqua Racer replacement, as it really was like for like. The last slide installation was Constrictor, in 2012. It replaced Terror Canyon I & II WNW JR opened in 2014, it replaced the previous kids slides that (despite a 2005 refurbishment) had been around for decades Aqualoop arrived in 2010, replacing both speed coaster and twister. Prior to these, Kamikaze was the last slide installation that didn't replace something else, which opened in October 2008. For those who can't math, that was almost 11 years ago. Prior to that, we got river rapids - a revamped white water mountain - but effectively another like-for-like, in 2007. 2006 gave us the extreme H2O zone - opening Mach 5, BlackHole and Tornado. 2 second hand slides - already very old tech, and one new one. Only one of these is likely to survive for much longer. 2005 saw the closure of the double screamer to make more room for buccaneer bay (now also replaced), the change to Mammoth from "plunge" to "river" (with Plunge moving to Sea World, now removed) which served to duplicate the existing 'river' on the other side of the tower, increasing capacity rather than introducing something new, and also in 2005 was the reopening of the refurbished buccaneer bay. Whirlpool arrived in 2002. In the 17 years since Whirlpool, we have seen 2 new slides that aren't either refurbishments, substitutes or replacements for old or aging infrastructure - Kamikaze and Tornado (and 2 "not new" slide sets - Mach 5 and Blackhole. Excluding the kids slide area, we've had 7 slide sets in total added, and 7 slide sets closed or removed. The park has trod water. From 2005 to 2012, something new arrived every year, with the exception of 2009. Since 2012, we've had a new kids area. Don't tell me the place isn't stagnating, and isn't screaming for investment. One thing I do agree with you on though - is the standard of the changing rooms and showers. It really shouldn't be that hard for them to bring in some demountable shower blocks and toilets, and to shut down the old block changerooms for a complete overhaul. This is the problem. it's the same - nothing significant since 2012. Been there, done that. what's new to bring people back, or to offer something different? It is abundantly clear that you are not thick skinned.
  21. This. With every other property on the coast getting some love in one form or another (including Paradise Country), Wet N Wild Gold Coast is the elephant in the room that everyone at VRTP is hoping so desperately that we'll just ignore. The park is literally littered with failed previous attempts at investment - Mach 5 tower still stands rusting. WnW Buggy is abandoned (at least the beach volleyball court looked like it was available to use if you came prepared) The Flying Fox sticks out like a sore thumb Whirlpool Springs is a shadow of what it once was - no reason was ever given by the park for keeping it in Winter mode year-round. Black Hole - assuming a similar age to Mach 5 and Sidewinders continues without a shade sail, indicative that it's been abandoned, and will likely succumb as soon as it is deemed too expensive to continue running. Even Dive In Movies - the screen still sits atop the wave pool, gently rusting away. This would be something that could be reinstated very quickly with the acquisition of a new projector... or better yet with the modern technology for daylight LED screens, perhaps they could install a big screen they could use during the day as well - and show an afternoon \ early evening dive in movie before the usual sunset timeslot, meaning the park could open longer in summer, but not as long as they used to? Start the screening at 4:30pm, so the film is done by 6:30 for those with little kids, with the park closed by 7? WhiteWater Mountain and Constrictor sit atop an old tower (that reeks of piss) at the top of a hill whose path is too steep to walk, and divided between the two attractions, which should have been overhauled when constrictor was built. There is so much land in the Extreme H2O zone that it's such a missed opportunity to build an entirely new 'precinct' out there with the latest and greatest technology. its a blank canvas, and yet, we continue to pretend Wet N Wild doesn't exist. Everyone laughed at Dreamworld announcing a new 'shaded seating area' - but wet n wild has so much shaded seating - some with a cost (cabanas everywhere) and others not (marquees with picnic tables and BBQ facilities). There are so many of them the park has actually removed some marquees that simply don't get used, leaving a concrete slab filled with picnic tables out in the sun. Whoops. this didn't start out as a rant, but god dammit I wish they'd do something with this park, and after this many years of neglect - a single slide isn't going to cut it - they need a whole new area with several slides, and they need it now.
  22. I don't know what engine coolant tastes like (i'll take your word for it Push), but it certainly wouldn't be an effective coolant- at least, not any more effective than water.
  23. Indeed. I was just reading a case this week in the federal court regarding trademarks - Monster Energy Drink thought people would be confused by a company selling an alloy car wheel called Monster Wheels... because as you can see - they're so similar. If you're interested, Monster Energy Drink didn't win their case... but in the same industry, it'd be a nightmare. http://classic.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/cth/FCA/2019/923.html
  24. In this case "all year" means that the gates are open, and there are staff there, but not everything you'd expect to see open will be open, some will be closed just to cheap out on wages, and other minor to major inconveniences. In this case, "open" is a very loose term.
