  1. If anyone is interested in reasons why Monorails aren't widely taken up, here's a really well put together video about the monorail network at Magic Kingdom: Obviously this is only based on Disney's network, but the economics would only become worse when dealing with government, public land and so on. As for Maglev, considering the rail proposal we saw for Brisbane a little while ago turned into a rubber-tyred-metro system, i'm not so confident we'll see Maglev here anytime in the near future.
  2. @Richard - I'm just curious - considering the generic nature of the thread title, and with Dreamworld's recent track record... does this meet the definition of megathread?
  3. @Richard - I'm just curious - considering this thread is capable of spanning an entire year, and with Dreamworld's recent track record, is likely to be updated several times a week... does this meet the definition of megathread?
  4. Seriously now - are you still butt hurt about my discussion regarding the status of AW as (not) a theme park? My friend, we're going to have to disagree. Calling someone a bully every time you don't like what they're saying is not a way to get on in life - and certainly with your advanced years, i'd have thought you would have learned that by now. Consider Tim - who I figure is probably about half your age - and I can have quite robust discussions about AW, and still get along just fine - hence why my comment was in a line of conversation originating from his comments relating to AW and FF. Nothing was ever said to you - and yet here you are, white knighting again. I don't currently have 'crew' status - not because I don't wish to contribute, but simply because every year it expires because I don't get reminders to renew it, and then I never get around to paying it again. I don't expect different treatment from Parkz just because I've contributed something financial to the running of the site. The benefits of crew membership are clearly outlined on the site - and neither I nor anyone else should expect any different. Regardless, I support Parkz, and its predecessors, for the work that they do, have done, and continue to do, and have done so for many years - and respect that in this privately operated site - their word is final. There was robust discussions on these forums in the few weeks I was enjoying the holiday break, and clearly, I missed out on some fun to be had, as the discussions were removed, hidden, or censored. Clearly, these crossed a line so that the moderators felt action was required. I've been the subject of such censorship in the past, indeed when I crossed a line, and was immediately contacted by private message by the moderator \ Richard to explain the reasons why, to help me recognise where the line is, and for that, I appreciated it. I note this as this is the same action that Richard stated in response to the recent discussions that occurred. On the other hand, I note that my comment above, which has apparently been taken the way it was intended by everyone but you, remains. This is a fairly good indication that no line has been crossed, and the butt hurt you are exhibiting is completely off-base and uncalled for. If I have ever personally offended you directly by my words or actions, I apologise - but if you're going to continue to be offended any time I don't hold up your state or your local park to the highest standards - you really need to evaluate whats important in your life. State versus State rivalry is big in this country (or - at least on the east coast). WA are our poor western cousins frequently referred to as 3 hours (and 10 years) behind (and yes - even Tim has referred to WA in this manner). Frankly, if you're lacking the competitive nature that drives one to pour shit on another state for their shortcomings, and to give as good as you get without calling for the PC Police to arrest someone for bullying and harassing you on the internet, that's... That's just unAustralian.
  5. Its a wink, put together by a ; and a ). Don't get a B in your bonnet old mate - i'm just teasing.
  6. Aqua colour hasn't been around long either - and its hardly well marketed... considering... well, erm... you know - it's marketed by Village...
  7. I went to SW many times, and never paid for anything (free radio station tix). It was a great place, but lacked on several fronts - it was small, so couldn't accommodate large amounts of people - which in turn made pricing high, to offset that, which in turn kept people away. Due to many of the attractions having both mechanical and VR elements, there were lengthy processes to group, load, set up, and start, for what then amounted to a fairly short experience. Rail Chase was certainly an awesome little experience, but all-in-all it wasn't that great when compared elsewhere. It certainly wasn't the first indoor coaster in Australia (not sure if there are others out there, but Expo 88's SuperNova was definitely prior), but probably was the only one operating at the time. The tank battle thing was also a bit ridiculous - such a large floor space, difficult to operate 'tanks' and a distinct lack of ammo. Honestly, in a similar space, Intencity Parramatta had a much more superior offering, and as everything was 'user pays', pricing was much more reasonable, and capacity \ wait times were much more tolerable.
  8. It's ok. nobody else thinks about FF or AW when discussing Aussie parks...
  9. That's a fine lookin' upwards seating pit.
  10. #Dreamworld #Dreamworld
  11. For the 17 nights of the year when it would actually be visible? That's a solid investment right there!
  12. But what is window dressing, and what is real make-a-difference infrastructure? You talk about the redevelopment of the ice cream shop a few years ago. A few weeks back I talked about looking at buildings that were falling apart and I wondered how much was held together by paint. The building I was specifically referring to was THE ICE CREAM SHOP. As the saying goes, you can't polish a turd, but you can add glitter - and it would seem that that is precisely the kind of redevelopment they did with the ice cream shop if a few short years later the building looks as it does (go and view it from the train station and you'll see what i mean). They removed thunder river - It killed people. They removed Eureka Mountain - it sat rotting for more than a decade They removed the rest of gold rush - without TRRR and EMMR, what exactly was left? - Oh wait - the disused Skylink chairlift station that also sat rotting for a decade. You suggest they might have plans to remove rides - but history suggests that they need to shutter the ride and let it sit for 8 or more years before they do. How many years did the gravitron ride sit in the boneyard? So they renovated a store to capitalise on a new hot craze (lego). They rebuilt their old food outlet into something modern - which was only about 15 years overdue. They redeveloped tiger island, yes - but they botched it with the giant green prison. Coroborree was only done because of generous government grants for indigenous cultural projects. This wasn't done with their own money or because they felt strongly about the subject matter. The expansion of White Water World? A lazy river that WNW has had for more than a decade is hardly an inspiring investment - and its still just one attraction. The plans for that park had staged developments including numerous attractions, none of which we've seen - instead we've seen the kneejerk reaction to Aqualoop that is the Wedgie, Triple Vortex, and finally the lazy river... 3 new attractions in TWELVE YEARS. Shall we talk about the cock up that was Trolls Village that was supposed to open last Christmas, and didn't open until more than 8 months later? Plonked smack down in the middle of an ocean themed area? Shall we talk about those big screens or the revolving globe? Dreamworld have had screens all over the park for years, showing music videos and crappy advertisements for related products. I'm not getting excited over a few outdoor LED screens when their marquee attractions can't even stay open, or carry a full load of passengers. And the globe. Yeah - what a photo opportunity. Its pretty, but its just window dressing. It is a take it or leave it thing that wasn't really necessary. Things they could have spent their money on instead: Upgrading the control system on their flagship 21 year old coaster to newer technology (and actually running it at its capability Properly rebuilding Wipeout so that it can run as designed Running rides at capacity - both sides of Giant Drop, for example Maintaining a working steam railway, instead of wasting money on a glorified yard tractor that tears up the rails and constantly breaks down Maintaining the park's people soaking paddlewheeler attraction The article points it out better than I ever could - but there are just so many things WRONG right now, its hard to be positive in the face of such blatant mismanagement. You choose to focus on the positive, and let the negative slide, and thats your choice - but don't decry others who speak the truth - you can't live in a dreamworld and pretend that the issues don't exist, just because it doesn't fit your mould of 'fun'. If you're going to ignore the negative, then you shouldn't be complaining about bored train conductors. You can't have it both ways.
  13. That's a pretty good concept Spotty. I took it a little further: Most of this explains itself. The F&B and Merch discounts would have to be priced up - i don't know the parks profit margins but i assume the percentages here maintain a margin across most of their range. If it would increase the pass holder per cap spend, then it can't be a bad thing. One thing to think about is whether you'd include a discount (even if its a different rate) for experiences such as SW animals, WnW pay-per-play experiences, HWSD back of house, star tours etc etc, and\or AOS, or whether you reserve that for 'premium privilege' tiers (more on that below). FN and WC tickets - i kept them in the higher tiers as Carnivale, by all accounts, needs to boost attendance, whereas WC and FN are frequently full. I opened FN in a lower tier as they have more flexibility about running additional nights, whereas WC, there isn't much option to run extra nights, and it frequently sells out despite not much in the way of improvements. Discounted offers would be perhaps half the price of a GA ticket. Premium Privilege - yes, its a crap name. I just see this as a way for them to offer more to a select group - early entry during peak times, with exclusive rides open early (like the old VIP Gold). First access to new attractions and experiences - admission by invitation only \ etc. Offers to attend things like out of hours events for filming, TVCs etc, all the enthusiasty things that die-hard fans want and are willing to pay for Special one-off offers - eg: "visit this month and show your pass to receive a free bucket of popcorn"... things to encourage revisits, that don't cost much\anything to do. Preferential seating at shows on a first come first served basis - ie - reserve a block of maybe 10 seats in show arenas at SW and MW, available only to premium privilege members. (and once its full, its full). The tiers would mean that some things are offered to tier 1 first, and then opened to tier 2 if the tier 1 holders don't take the offer up. Other things would be offered to both tiers from the start (such as preferential seating, and the monthly freebie). They could also feature a 'premium privilege upwards seating pit' exclusively for some events for the parade.... Pie in the sky? probably. still - nice to dream.
  14. *cue fanboys here or on facebook abusing you for calling it like it is.
  15. It was mentioned before, but i'm hoping that the fact they 3D scanned the disco room means something else is coming - i wanna hope there's more to come, and they've just rushed it open to cater to the holidays. If there's nothing more to do, it is great that it isn't a hollow shell anymore, but it is underwhelming. I still stand by my earlier comments that a lot more work has gone into it than people are giving credit for, but i still hope there's more to come.
  16. Makes sense - DC Rivals had a premium on Fast Track - i think it was an additional cost, or was only available for a single ride. It needs to be a higher cost since its brand new to make it (the express pass) less attractive unless you REALLY REALLY want to skip the queue.
  17. In the park of missed opportunities? Naw.... In about 12 months someone will realise its great advertising space, and if they haven't sold it - we'll see billboard ads for skypoint.
  18. On the contrary, I wouldn't say it was unnecessary at all. I'm the crotchety old man that sits in the corner waggling his walking stick at the kids playing their records too loud, occasionally spouting pearls of wisdom that wise kids occasionally benefit from if they listen. The forums are a place for discussion - something each of us has equal right to do. ...And you don't contribute photos either - you contribute slideshows of photos and 5 second vine videos that are impossibly difficult to watch. You also create threads that are against the forum rules - such as this one - generically named 'dreamworld WWW update'. Honestly i'm surprised it's lasted this long as it is. I've tried to dialogue with you. Privately i've tried to explain to you what it is that you're doing that's annoying people. Several others have politely pointed it out, and you don't seem to get the message - so at that point you lose all restraint from me, and i'm gonna let you know about it. Honestly, this world is creating too many fucking snowflakes that think the world should adjust to suit them, instead of the other way around.
  19. I've met Pushbutton in the same sense that you've met AlexB. They're both online personas, and in an online world, yes, we've both met. Has Andy met Alex? No. But that's irrelevant to the point.
  20. That's rich coming from a person who sarcastically commented "closed today. awesome" on a ride that's in technical rehearsal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_rehearsal Before major attractions celebrate their grand opening, they open periodically to the public during the two or three week period leading up to the grand opening. This allows the park to get team members fully trained in running the attraction with actual guests, and it also allows the park to work out any remaining kinks in the system. These unannounced, unpublished openings are often called soft openings. The catch is that there is never a schedule given to the public, and these rehearsals may last an hour, a few hours, or just a few minutes… it all depends on how much training is needed and whether or not problems develop. *(It is a contrast that the WMBW social media team announced it was open to social media, instead of 'soft open' - so the first word you get of technical rehearsal is at the ride entrance - so boo to the park) Honestly - although you've only posted a couple of times, you've been a member for at least a month. I'd have thought you'd have at least a basic idea of the vibe here. If you're going to walk into the middle of a conversation and then expect everyone to change how they're conversing because you don't like it - you're gonna have a bad time.
