2015 in Dreamworld - ABC Kids World, V8 Supercars and more
Dude - you keep saying this shit and people keep calling you out on it being bullshit... Redline opened in December 2008. Here's a link to the original Redline construction thread, with the Dreamworld PR rep giving us the date: http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/topic/4440-dw-pr-new-v8-supercars-attraction-behind-the-scenes-blog/?do=findComment&comment=57054 Now - I proposed to my (now) wife ON cyclone in March 2012... and I have an ONRIDE photo to prove it. If it is your claim that they could be fixing a cable that was (and still is) damaged when Redline was added (in December 08) how do I have a Cyclone OnRide in March 2012???

Well given that those 'circular objects' on the side aren't uniformly applied to the side, i'd say theres a bit to go on it yet...

VRTP Renewals
I know it isn't membership, but I got an email this week with MyFun's new price points for the parks - the old "3 park superpass" has been reimagined again - in 7 day tickets or 21 day tickets - for $84 or $89 respectively (I mean - for the price difference few would baulk at the extra $5 if they were on the coast longer than a week). Its an attractive alternative for holiday makers who aren't on the coast long - especially when compared to the now $108 pricepoint of the 'old' VIP pass with the new Memberships... the question is - is the pricepoint close enough that you might convince people to get membership so as to take advantage of the discounts etc - kind of how some people will buy a disney annual pass for one member to take advantage of that....? https://myfun.com.au/theme-parks-passes/buy-tickets

Seaworlds New Kids Area Announced
I see your point, but doubt it will be a packed out busy time. Like the launch of Dreamworks at Dreamworld, the preview is likely to be out of hours, and likely on a weekday. I'm pretty sure Dreamworld DID limit the numbers of people who were invited, but I think say - a tuesday night during school term might limit the amount of people able to avail themselves of such an offer. it is good to see VRTP finally recognising the value of their loyal membership base, and offering more than a 'token' offering of 'exclusivity'.

Arguments for licensing outlets within Sea World - from a guy whose avatar is beer in a sea world stein. Hard to argue with that!!!

Seaworlds New Kids Area Announced
While we're at it - let's just close down Wild West Falls in Movie World? Anyone wanting to get wet can still do so at Wet N Wild. Dreamworld should follow this move - closing down the log flume, rapids, and flow rider, since guests can still get wet at WhiteWaterWorld. Or if you intend this only to relate to alcohol - then perhaps they should close the Dirty Harry Bar and Rick's Cafe - as guests can buy alcohol at Wet N Wild also. The park and the resort might be owned by the same company, but they are complimentary yet competing businesses. You may not see the value in the park offering an alcoholic beverage within the park boundaries - but no-one in their right mind is going to say 'i feel like a beer with my lunch - let's leave the park'... if you drive them to the resort for a drink with lunch - chances are they'll head elsewhere instead - where pricing is lower - such as the yacht club just down the road... or they won't order alcohol with their lunch. In the food and beverage industry - the food isn't where you make your money - its the beverage. So not offering attractive alcoholic options (which you can markup to the hilt) severely limits your income potential.

I wonder though if the new trains are set up for blocks? I know the infrastructure is there on the track and control panel - so i doubt it would be hard, but I assume the logic programming would have been wiped and reset for the one new train, so might need some additional programming... can't be that hard!!! Correct me if i'm wrong - but weren't blue and red trains cannibalised for the new train? Or was the new train COMPLETELY new rolling stock?

New Season at Adventure World 2015/16
It's frustrating to find absolutely nothing as far as a stats sheet for the cloverleaf. its a trademarked product, yet you can't find anything on proslides website, other than that they use them on some of their slides. the korean company they manufacture them through doesn't even have them. I'm sure there'd be a patent somewhere - but even then i'm not sure it'd say what the limit was on it.

What would you spend $9m on?
I know this is a 'what you wish for' post, so there isn't any wrong answers i guess, but it's kinda like when you spend 4 hours meticulously designing the most awesomest far out coaster you've ever seen in RCT3, and then when you open it, nobody wants to ride it. I appreciate the ride-styles are already in operation in your suggestion, but they're in parks that have far more variety (and capacity) to be able to target a niche market to say 'ours is the ultimate'. I agree it'd be a great ride, but I don't think it should be done to GD. IMO. I've seen videos of another drop ride do this - i think it had 6 gondolas, and 3 of them had a 'top' brake fin - i think on the video i saw it was called a 'psych out' drop. I never knew GD had it though. You do love your monorail... Can we at least have air conditioning, an extended track, and maybe a few more stations? Wouldn't it be awesome if they could get clearance to run the monorail out onto the other side of the spit, so you could see the beach? Or maybe run it all the way up to the end of the spit to the seaway? #dreams.

I know many people (who will ride pretty much anything else on the coast) who really hate GD as it is. it's a very polarising attraction. is it worth dumping that much to retrofit an attraction into something that may scare the bejeebus out of even more people and reduce it's rider base even further? *plus - if you had a different experience on both sides - that would force dreamworld to run both sides = not gunna happen.

Movie World speculation and dreaming - 2015 edition
- 2015 in Dreamworld - ABC Kids World, V8 Supercars and more
I'll be really disappointed if Cyclone is rethemed to V8s - but given its proximity to redline, and the speculated approvals that recently went through GCCC, i'll grant that it's possible. DW said previously (although not in the same breath) that the 'v8 attractions' were to be 'new'. they did also say a refresh\overhaul would happen on another major attraction this year. Perhaps instead of separate attractions they did mean the same thing... I'm sure Cyclone would work very well as a V8 attraction, with a new train (somebody please tell them to buy two and put in another set of block brakes! *wishful thinking*) - but they'll have to do something special with the queue house (lightbulb moment - spiral parking garages could fit the theme well)...- 2015 in Dreamworld - ABC Kids World, V8 Supercars and more
Well that was short lived....http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/abc-shops-to-close-300-jobs-to-go/story-fnkgdftz-1227453388663 (Obviously this won't affect the ABC Shop in Dreamworld as it is staffed by DW staff, and paid for by DW... i was just making light of the fact that they announce the closure of all these stores only weeks after building one inside a theme park.)- Movie World speculation and dreaming - 2015 edition
It wasn't so bad back in the day of the Stars Cafe - but since that has lain derelict for so long - they really should do something with that space.... or reopen it as an outlet - even if it's only a quick counter service takeaway... hell popcorn and postmix would do... just do SOMETHING- Green Lantern incident at MW
No, I really do think he was serious about what he said...- Movie World speculation and dreaming - 2015 edition
"Unused shack\booth thing" ? is this the drink\popcorn\chips outlet themed as a Newspaper stand? Since when was it "unused" ? for as long as i've been going (albeit not for a while) that's always been the first outlet open as it was the only one accessible prior to 'rope drop'... On another note - I know we bagged the shit out of the parks previously for having plain hoarding fencing - which apparently prompted them to use this green 'hedge' overlay on all of their temp fencing... but it doesn't even fit the fence panels anymore, is applied carelessly, and looks like they don't care \ treat their guests with contempt. I know it's at a greater cost to do so - but they'd be better off rolling out a mesh-vinyl print of each park's 'home characters' - Justice League, Scooby Doo... even the 'movie star' characters... Nickelodeon \ Dolphins etc - even just park logos and promotional photos in a fun collage would be nicer than trying to pretend in any way that these fences are 'just a hedge'. Don't make them so specific they can only be used once - make them fairly generic whilst still capitalising on the park's imagery... sure you'll have to replace them if you lose the licensing to that particular IP but that doesn't happen everyday... (not to mention character specific hoarding is a great backdrop for character photos in-park!) I'm not saying you've got to go all 'disney' and individually wrap each and every hoarding in the exact imagery of what is or was once behind it... but this hedge crap is getting a bit of a joke these days... (Here's how Disney hoards a castle. Also worth noting they do the EXACT same thing with Main Street buildings etc)- Adventure World 2015 - 'Mi2' Kraken Tornado slide
No - he's right - despite 8 years passing since opening (which of course I assumed little rippers were present) sources show little rippers did in fact open in September 2007 - 10 months after opening. I didn't visit in the first year, which is probably why I'd just assumed it was there from opening - especially since 'Wedgie' was touted to be the 'phase 2' replacement. So at 3, you've kind of got precedent.... EXCEPT - on further fact checking, I note that the Wedgie opened in April... so that's still only TWO rides opened in September - which is still hardly a precedent.- Adventure World 2015 - 'Mi2' Kraken Tornado slide
You think it's a good idea to open a brand new attraction in the busiest time of the year? And what do you mean whitewaterworld opens their slides in early spring? they've only ever built TWO outside of initial construction!! Hardly precedent! And winter lasts the same period of time every year. the world hasn't slowed down... weather patterns may lead to a cooler spring, or a cooler autumn... but the opposite is also true - you can have a warm spring and a warm autumn - doesn't mean summer lasts longer either...- Record-breaking Tornado slide coming to Adventure World
I find that unlikely.- Adventure World 2015 - 'Mi2' Kraken Tornado slide
Probably the smartest thing they could have done. Unlike the GC parks, that deem it necessary to launch their newest attraction on 26 December every year, and every year without fail, something goes wrong in their peak trading times. Opening in October does mean some fanfare is lost from not opening in peak season, but I think it's the smarter move - iron out the kinks in operations and automation before the queue stretches to the bottom of the hill and people start hating on you. Call it a soft opening and you can still have a 'ribbon cutting' on the first day of summer or something. I find myself wishing more and more that AW was on the east coast so I could visit... or at least so that the management of the east coast parks could visit and see how to do it right!- Record-breaking Tornado slide coming to Adventure World
Interesting that YOUR copy of the render is unedited, whereas the copy Mark posted to the forums had certain parts scribbled out with pen.- Dream Coaster/Ride
Forgive my ignorance... Besides the X2 train - what other part of those rides (TOTII, X2, Zacspin) is made by S&S?- Eureka Mountain Mine Ride reopening discussion
So Ashley, the reason Will asked you that question is because you didn't really quantify what you were saying. So after reading your reply, it seems like what you've said is your speculation, and opinion. It seems like you're headed in the right direction... but its still speculation nonetheless.- The Off Topic Topic
Not such an unlikely situation if you consider where the space program was up to in the 50s, and what they had achieved by 1970... if they hadn't canned the space program for other priorities, i'm sure regular trips to the moon would have occurred by then. - 2015 in Dreamworld - ABC Kids World, V8 Supercars and more
