  1. attached is the email offer sent to VIP Gold members. I get that the advertised offer when the gold was sold was to include FN and WC. I understand that early entry wasn't a 'sold' perk... but the 'express lane' at the ticket gates was - there is no mention of a change to the offer, just the option to 'renew your VIP Gold'... so my expectation is that ALL perks of the gold pass (acknowledging that early entry wasn't a 'perk' but part of a month-by-month offer) will be available. Is it possible that the month-by-month perks, including 50% off your second bucket of fairy floss, as well as early entry will continue? Yes. Do we have a right to cry about them not making it part of the offer? In hindsight - No. Should they have marketed the hell out of the available 'gold' perks, increased the price for new or upgrading passholders, and made a nice shiny profit? Yes. Should they offer the Gold as a renewal price cheaper than the public offer? Yes. Would this be a smart move, strategically? Yes. Are their marketing guys idiots? Possibly. I've just gone back through my email, and as luck would have it - here is the original offer from MyFun... and Early Entry WAS a sold perk in their advertising!
  2. I'm pleased to say that overall, my experience 'at work' is by far better than it was last week - EVERYTHING loads exceptionally faster. I'm based in Brisbane, but our net access all runs through an interstate connection... so looks like a positive change!
  3. Yes, but don't forget that those roof extensions on scooby required extensive engineering and structural work to support that massive opening roof in case of fire... Plus - those fire-sensing eyes in the trains weren't cheap either. Both of which are getting on in years. Maybe they can incorporate both into the new ride - they've already developed that super top-secret technology in the Dippin Dots Laboratory...
  4. My only issue is the discontinuation of 'new' Vip GOLD. I have numerous family and friends who only got 'normal' VIP last year, when we got gold. they then saw the benefits we got, and resolved to upgrade to gold this year... and it's not available... unless you're renewing? Honestly - it's the least they could do - offer a premium product to the public, and then show the rest why it was worth it in order to generate more interest in the premium product. They've now devalued that premium product by taking away some of the special incentives - and instead provided that 'premium' product out to more general passholders. I can only assume the reason for extending the 'early entry' to all passholders was because there wasn't an incentive to have 5 ride operators start 45 minutes earlier so that they could watch me go around and around 12 times... I'd have thought though that the better idea was to market that benefit to the market, to entice them to pay more money for a gold pass?
  5. The statement on the site is entry to skypoint for 'worldpass' holders. My pass - bought in 2011 (2 years) is a platinum world pass... so based on that advertising, as a 'worldpass' holder - i also get unlimited free entry to skypoint. And if advised otherwise - they may be breaching consumer law.
  6. I'm with westical... Doing a park trip, and skipping Disney... it's like eating and McDonald's - and not having fries with that. it's like going to a cinema - and not buying a grossly oversized, overpriced box of popcorn that ends up part on the seat, and part in the bin because it got cold. it's like being John West - and accepting less than the best. it's like Dreamworld installing a new ride - and not adding it to the list of the Big Thrill rides it's like walking down the street - and not watching where you're going. (also substitutable for driving) it's like flying international - and not getting your little packet of nuts it's like doing a theme park tour - and skipping anything Disney... (anyone else?)
  7. There's an Adopt A Special Kid (AASK) thread now? Or maybe you mean AAST (and aren't we just calling it AA now anyway??? - My name is Alex, and i'm an alc... nevermind.)
  8. Where is my incentive to renew, if they're going to take one of my Gold benefits away? If the park early opens to general VIP holders - thats going to eliminate the point in having one. Instead, they should offer the gold again and see how many people JUMP at the chance to upgrade from a standard. I spoke to numerous people in park who asked me why I was the only one on the ride for half an hour - i told them I had the gold pass - they wanted to know where to get it from. Sure - Gold pass holders weren't flooding the gates last year. Half of the 'gold' benefits weren't made public when they were available for sale - all we were told was that it had FN\WC... and some additional 'member specials' that normal VIPs didn't get. So let's take a look at the additional benefits that were given: Exclusive queue line Early Entry with exclusive access (let's face it - it's ERT) Instead of canning the pass's availability to people to want to upgrade, and only making it available to renewals: 1. offer it again - except this time - make ALL the benefits public. 2. keep the price the same, or even up it (knowing what i know now, i'd have paid closer to $200 than $100). 3. Profit
  9. As in most of the general public?
  10. Can anyone draw conclusions to the phrase "containers of ride parts from italy"...? Does this tell us who the manufacturer is? Do they have any previous installations anywhere? Perhaps even a history of the styles (ie: single track, double rail, trackless)...
  11. Can't access those sites from work - but an easy one: Picture of MDMC Caption: "Thrill Ride"
  12. Re-read this twice before I clicked that this is GL discussion, not Arkham discussion... I was thinking for a moment that Arkham's audio had gone live - and was going to complain that it wasn't working for me...
  13. I'm voting track - this is definitely park of the ride track itself - look at the image that shows the cornering - theres no need to introduce that wide a space for turning for a pedestrian queue. I have no proof - but i'll put money on that being part of the actual ride-path.
  14. But movieworld already have some late-night events - Hallowe'en Fright Nights and White Christmas. This already brings in massive (read: sellout or over-capacity) crowds that throng to the park, and all they need to do is have some smoke \ snow machines, and some fancy outdoor coloured lights. I've said before on these boards i'd like to see the parks (movie world especially) put on more 'seasonally themed' night shows. I can't recall them all and can't search for them at work - but why not 'valentines' for february, 'christmas in july' (obviously - for july) - the Christmas in July one is easy anyway - the 'christmas' stuff just gets rolled out again. I'd like to see one night, or one long weekend a month where they do late-opens. Having said that, the investment put into these night-time attractions is still a big one - but not the millions we're talking about for a viable watershow like WOC. For starters - MW doesn't really have anywhere they could do it - and before you mention the Wild West 'lake' (which would be a perfect setting in my opinion) - the residents won't allow for that to happen. WOC was expensive - but it had a usable, man-made lake to utilise that had already been built. This kind of attraction needs to go into a 'venue' that already exists - like the SW lake. For those who want to see a 'decent' watershow that isn't disney - check out 'songs of the sea' on Sentosa Island in Singapore (i know it's corny, but it's still a good show). That show draws the crowds in, and I daresay - wouldn't have half the budget that WOC does. The difference between the two is Disney puts the show on for guests already in park, whereas Songs of the Sea is a separate admission fee - and yet they still draw the crowds night after night.
  15. I think the only place you're getting a 'world of colour' style attraction is at Sea World - and the resort has a 'budget' version in their waterpark already. You could install a system in the lake - but you'd have to position it carefully or cancel the boat show. WOC has fixtures installed in it that lower during the day and raise to the surface for showtime - this would be viable for SW, but expensive. The biggest hurdle you're trying to overcome in our parks for that experience is that they aren't open late enough for the show to have the impact that WOC does. I realise DW opens late for their Illuminate show - but it's not worth spending the money on the hardware if it's only going to be used sparingly... the parks would need to run the show every day for it to be worth the investment. Having said that - they could go with something like http://www.waltzingwaters.com/ - these guys do temporary\permanent installations, and can make a display to suit any style \ size \ budget. It'd be nice for any of our parks to do it, but without a frequent 'late night' trading option - none of them will get the value out of it.
  16. I am still yet to experience audio on GL... with ride-count in double figures. I've checked the key switches, and they're always on - even had the operator check on it for me before despatch (who is also a member of these boards - formerly from Sydney)... always on, but never working. TBH I think theres a little glitch with the capacitors - like maybe not seated right to charge in station? I've had first rides of the day, last rides of the day, lunchtime rides - it just never seems to work. I'm not saying it doesn't \ hasn't worked at all - I believe those who say they've had it - but for the ride to be so 'hit and miss' that I could have so many rides without it - it's just poor form... imagine space mountain without sound... or even haunted mansion? Or more locally - bermuda and LTRR? without sound they're a very poor attraction. I'm not saying GL is poor without it - it's still a great little coaster - but for the much hyped \ excited introductions - for so many people yet to experience it means something has been 'cheaped out'... so figure out the problem, and fix it.
  17. I heard that the dippin dots guy was stuck underneath one of the trains... he was pushed there by management when it was decided he was getting on in years.
  18. Rappa - it's quite likely you had been. Whether or not it influenced what you were seeing on the site, or whether you were seeing normally is irrelevant - you were still that drunk...
  19. Jobe - my original comment on the announcement was congratulatory to all who had suggested, guessed, or secretly knew about the possibility of this type of ride coming to this location. I in no way suggested I was the first one, or that people should trust me because I 'predicted it'. For Wyn to claim 'the fame' of being the one who 'predicted it' when in fact TWO people had posted the same suggestion at least 4 months earlier is what elicited my response to him. You'll also note that I still did not claim to be 'the first' in that post either. I will say though that I agree with Joz it is surprising just how many people had an 'inside track' on this, and kept their mouths shut to the degree that they did. As for the attractions, I've been on ghost hunters, but don't remember much about it. I have ridden Buzz-L-A-B and find it amazing for re-rideability as your score is never the same. The use of screens is indicating that control over the direction of the gondola won't be there like Buzz, because there will be sections where the gondola must face the screen. Buzz' added bonus was that you could in effect have a 'spin-n-spew' ride, or an extremely placid one. Try shooting whilst someone beside you unpredictably moves the gondola in random directions... As has been said also - the ability to post your score (rather than the more traditional "phone camera shot of the display screen") is also a desirable one. As for the size - as Netman said - from library to simulator is a rather large area. You also need to remember that the batcave exited both left and right. From memory there were six simulators - if you look at the spacing between each doorway it gives a rough idea of the length of the building. Buzz' style layout looped back on itself a couple of times, and there were times when you could see the cars ahead. This doesn't spoil the effect at all, and allows for space saving sections where you almost entirely circle a particular target (ala Zerg). One thing I don't see mentioned yet though is the extremely high capacity potential of this ride. If it is a 'doom buggy' style train of gondolas, continuous flow, continuous load, then it should, at all times, run at maximum capacity, and soak up incredible numbers throughout the day.
  20. Wyn - you weren't the first to predict the El Loco - just the most obvious. You weren't the first to predict a 'buzz' style ride either. Unfortunately the forums only go back 12 months, and the only post I can find is this one: which is May 2011, as opposed to september. I know that both Netman and Myself put it forward earlier than that, but hey. It's only a prediction if you don't know the end result - if you already knew it was coming from your contact (who obviously told you about the El Loco as well) then it wasn't a prediction - it was knowledge, carefully worded so as not to ruin WVTP's thunder when they officially announce it. MickeyD - he was a true predictor. At the very least, you could have shared credit - especially when you knew full well you weren't the first one out there... like I did in my post... but no... WE need to learn to trust you on these things? give me a break. We need to ignore you more often - arrogant, self important twat.
  21. For those of us who have been calling a 'buzz lightyear' style ride - here it is - confirmed!
  22. ...but are they issues with the coaster \ carriage? You rode after launch without problem (besides leg pressure - which is to be expected from that style of ride) and then the next time several weeks later, you come off with headache \ migraine? If it were the train \ coaster \ carriage that was the problem, then there would be many people complaining of similar symptoms. Lethal Weapon was universally known as giving people headbanging, headaches, sore ears. There are few members on this forum who wouldn't have experienced that over the years. I never experienced anything more than minor irritation, but I still wouldn't ride more than once or twice in a row. I've been on Lethal both before and after it's small downtime, and I notice no difference. Lastly - Gazza - you think leg pressure on Wipeout was bad - can I get an amen from all the Bounty's Revenge riders out there???
  23. Dreamworld's getting one too? Geez - will the blatant copying never end? :sarcasm:
  24. Ok - Wyncenurous - if you read both Rappa's and Joz's statements one after another, you'll see that they're essentially saying the same thing. Where Rappa says 'it's not up for debate' what he's saying is that the ride is vastly improved, so you can't say that it's worse than lethal weapon - it's an improvement. He didn't say you can't debate leg pain or headaches - he's saying it's not up for debate that it's better than it was - read his post again. I'll be honest - I've ridden Lethal, front, back and middle 10 times in a row, and another 5 times throughout the same day. I did not experience headaches - I kept my head forward, and braced for the g-forces, rather than being a rag-doll with my head lolling against the headrest. It seems to me that most people who get headaches or headbanging are the types who don't brace. I'm not saying you do or don't... i'm just saying most people i knew who came off lethal with bad headaches weren't bracing themselves against the forces. Trust me though when I say that although the signage and operators say 'head back'... it's not the best advice (but if your neck muscles aren't capable of resisting the g-forces - you're going to have trouble). I HAVE experienced the leg pain. It's quite a pressure, and in some instances, i've been 'posititioned' wrong, and experienced pain a little higher up if you know what i mean. Wedged as I am, in every case I have to wait until I get to the station, but it isn't unbearable. it isn't long-lasting. As soon as I hop out of the seat, take a step or two (in the case of re-rides - changing seats) - and i'm fine for another ride again. I'm not going to call someone a sook. I recognise that people are different. Wyncenurous - you are self confessed as preferring the shows and entertainment over the coasters - but to be fair - it is rare that you are on here to praise ANYTHING that the parks have done. Your comments are usually one sided, and generally very critical. Whether true or not, i'm not calling you a liar but you seem to receive unsolicited comments from members of the general public that are in full agreeance with your point of view. My family members are quite social whilst queueing - and it is rare that any member of the 'general-non-enthusiast-public' is as critical as the people you seem to meet. My point is - you, and everyone you meet, are extremely critical and opinionated of the parks. You always seem to be attacking them. So when the parks have actually done something good - improved an attraction that had numerous complaints and problems to a level where those complaints and problems are eliminated, or at the very least reduced, and you still attack them - you should expect to have those who think otherwise to come to the parks defence. It has nothing to do with being a community leader - or having an 'orange tag' underneath their avatar. I agree with them too, and so do many others on here. Nobody is saying your opinion doesn't matter, and nobody is saying that you must be lying - the comments above are simply saying that the ride is an improvement on it's former self, and it is, for all purposes, an incredible improvement on what we had.
  25. Not to mention that since the production of books and movies has finished, DVDs are all released - her income is slowing down. She won't be the richest woman in the (world \ united kingdom \ universe) unless she drums up ways to generate more income. Whilst she might be protective of the branding, some IP copyright only lasts 25 years, and some 50 - she's better off granting licensing to whomever wants to buy it, so long as the right price is set - to 'make hay while the sun shines'
