  1. And to continue the equine abuse - WhiteWaterWorld opened in 2006 - yet Thunder River was super popular right up until the day of the incident - so popular that the park was making decisions to keep the ride operating when they perhaps shouldn't. Log ride likewise had high patronage right up until the bondage roofing was installed. The difference between DW and AW (that I can tell) is that one is a theme park, and one is an 'action park' hybrid - the waterslides and pools are intermingled amongst the other attractions to a point where the park has to accept that wet shorts are going to ride the rollercoaster because to ask patrons to get changed first would just be plain stupid. Nobody wants to walk around a dry park like Dreamworld in the South East Queensland humidity in damp (and rapidly warming) swimwear. I don't know about the weather over in Perth, but here in SEQ, that's a sure-fire pathway to Swamp-Crotch.
  2. Some of the tender sites have shown more details prior to tender selection too - so when the initial call goes out, if you catch it then, you can sometimes get a look at more details project info without having subscribed.
  3. ...and of course the other option is tender sites and freight. do the parts head down the coast, or up to the Port?
  4. The question now is who is going to trawl all the various council websites to determine which Aussie park has lodged a DA for it... the challenge is on! Look at those horrible blank walls by the launch! how terrible they didn't theme those walls!
  5. That's a bit premature. These are all decorative panels \ cladding and could be out for paint and panel. There's no boiler... wheel assemblies, controls... The tender is there but thats basically just a tank, so no external cladding. Dreamworld have been pretty straight about things lately - and they're VERY aware of the Steam base in their community - i doubt they'd have killed it. My guess is 12+ months outside the shed without shelter or work has hurt the finish and they're polishing it up before reopening.
  6. Please tell me what you did here! It's hurting my brain!
  7. The sense of humour these guys have shown in the past, I honestly wouldn't put it past them to make such references!
  8. I haven't seen it run yet, but the photo updates i've seen show rub marks on the track, and the trains have swapped positions from the storage bay at least once, so there is definitely movement. Whether that's a cycle or just shuffling, i'm not sure but I believe the rub marks might indicate sneaky cycles going unnoticed.
  9. Yeah - Bounty's was a looping starship. HMS Endeavour (formerly known as Sea Demon when it was in International Village) is a ride model called 'Sea Panic'. I have searched for years to find more information about this ride, and I have never been able to turn anything up beyond the model name. I have no idea where it came from before wonderland (or if it was new) and its one of the biggest 'origin' mysteries we have about the park.
  10. Likewise mate. im a little busy over the next few weeks - I’m free from 17/12 if you wanna catch up…
  11. isn't that because the herd immunity in that population is forecast to be high enough then? Because they all jumped on the vax bandwagon and everyone got jabbed in a bloody hurry? Isn't that what is likely to happen up here when approximately 50% of the currently unvaxxed get vaxxed???
  12. ^It certainly puts things into perspective. Apart from the early days when the parks were all closed, and the occasional 3-day snap lockdown - access to the parks has been pretty open and fairly unrestricted since the beginning. We've not really seen the restrictions on the coast that were imposed in Melbourne or Sydney - for some this is the first time they've had to face losing something that the rest of the general populace has taken for granted.
  13. I agree it is a choice. We make choices in life every day - each choice has its own consequences and we must make ourselves aware of those consequences - and accept them if that is the choice we make. Vaxxed people have fewer and lesser reactions - and I believe are infectious for shorter periods - so the odds of them spreading it are also therefore reduced - so I respectfully disagree - you aren't 'just as likely' although I agree it is still possible. The more of the herd that have it, the less likely it is to spread though. True - but we're also wearing masks, social distancing, capacity limits, non-vertical consumption and so on. Many of these things will be phased back or phased out when the vaxxed targets are met. I accept that everyone is entitled to have, and share their opinion in a respectful manner. I personally don't understand that view though (to be clear, I accept you have that opinion, I just don't understand it). I guess though that it's kind of like how some religious folk don't accept that Dinosaurs were a thing - scientists and other -'ists dug up their bones, found fossil records etc - but they just didn't accept that to be truth. (despite religion causing loads of wars throughout history - the world didn't end because of those differences!) Your opinion is again respected, but I don't see this as anyone forcing segregation - folks had a choice, remember? this is the consequence. As for moving backwards as a state - I for one am very glad to be living in Queensland, and not Victoria.
  14. Not sure what you mean - are you saying that Is @Slick's kind of humour?
  15. For the last time, no! I'm not interested and you can't get my phone number!
  16. You must be fun at parties.
  17. I think there's a huge difference between going somewhere despite the risk and being paranoid about every little thing, and going somewhere feeling a sense of safety because you know that the venue has implemented measures to alleviate those fears. I'm certainly selective over going out if I don't need to, but i'm also trying to live my life (and raise a 5 year old) without missing out on 'too much' because of it. Going into a park, where they have QR code check-in and mandatory App usage - Good. But I still wear a mask, still get paranoid about people invading my personal bubble and try to keep a distance from others wherever possible. I would probably relax a lot more if I didn't have to keep looking over my shoulder at the guy behind me in line who isn't wearing a mask properly and keeps inching closer and closer to me with every step despite the stickers spaced 1.5m apart on the ground.
  18. Or, you know, the joke just went over your head.
  19. Depends on how you phrase the question - aren't lights already up? Because some lights never get taken down?
  20. Agree with this. If it were discriminatory - something someone couldn't help about themselves, but not getting vaxxed is a choice, and those choices come with consequences. You can't have your cake and eat it too. No doubt - i feel more safe knowing unvaccinated folks will be excluded from the theme parks, and I for one will be more inclined to visit regularly knowing those restrictions are in force.
  21. Master plans are fun and all, but a quarter mil for something that cost 10 is a hard deal to pass on if you've got the capital available - plans can change. I agree though Aussie world is probably the lowest likelihood simply because it's 'just up the road'
  22. Another version of 'i know something you don't know'. This guy's put his credibility on the line (although judging by some of his thumbnails i'm not sure how much was there to start with) - so it seems likely to be legit. It was a pretty cheap price for what it was, and it'll have an easier life at any other non-GC park so the maintenance demands might not be so burdensome. It'll be interesting to see where it ends up if it is staying local. I'm sure it'll make some people happy.
  23. Because the 4-bit colour palette is free to use and they don't want to upgrade their subscription.
  24. Now you're just showing your age... You're right about what it is, although i've no idea about the frequency. I think @Slick might know more about this little piece though...
