  1. the big parks don't have a chance here. Legoland is probably the only suggestion that would have a shot. Six Flags could probably do something too, but probably wouldn't be willing to take the risk, even with the right incentives. But that said, why should the QLD state government offer a special deal to a new theme park company, when the ones already here need help to get through what is a difficult time? I'm sure Ardent and VRTP would look favourably on a state government that increases their competition... and then we're likely to see them not invest in this market.
  2. Then you have the due diligence to seek permission prior to producing and publishing. The sites you've pulled the content from are not hard to contact and have a very public presence. It should not be up to them to reach out to you to raise the issue when its clear you've ripped the material. I know for a fact it wouldn't have taken much for you to reach out to the WonderlandHistory team, and they'd probably have been really supportive, including offering original footage rather than compressed youtube material. I'm not going to bother with private messaging you as you've clearly shown a preference to ask forgiveness rather than permission, and in the process expected ME to chase you up about it. The guys at Wonderland History have already flagged the video with YouTube's content management, so I suggest those who want to watch it do so quickly.
  3. That's a great way to get off on the right foot. You've used a lot of material without permission, including some of my photos. Although you give credit on your channel to wonderland history, you haven't approached them for permission either.
  4. I withdraw my previous fountain. it is odd that this large amount of friction doesn't cause any sort of sound, but its definitely more than plausible, now that you've explained that. thanks!
  5. Sorry Rich - that i'm not sold on. it occurs within seconds of dispatch, before you even leave the station - a section of track that is completely flat, and straight. It's also a rhythmic, timed occurrence. I'm open to being shown otherwise, but i'm not presently sold.
  6. given the new movie isn't out, and the park likely already has the license to the 200X films, i'd say they'll keep the older version.
  7. I am. Although i'm not sure i'll use it, I remember many a trip to Sea World when time was spent in the pools. Sea World has been criticised recently of not having enough to keep people for a full day (and I myself have observed this when visiting too) - stopping off at a place to cool off, let mum and dad relax while the kids run ragged around a splash zone sounds like a nice way to round out the afternoon. #imkeen We got doomsday within a year PRIOR. It's always POSSIBLE depending on how their financial planning is going. TopGolf is another major attraction, and it will open within a year too. (I know you meant 'in park', but still). I'm sure SW will see some love soon enough - let's be honest though - WnW is the park that is most overdue.
  8. that's an amazing set up if the shudder is all down to the subs placed around the track. No way I would have thought it'd be anything less than mechanical effect. Why is it the typical 'chestyness' isn't present?
  9. Maybe this will require an overhaul of their online ticketing system, and in turn convince them it's time to upgrade the rest of their website suite. *fountain reacts only*
  10. You've just missed the point entirely.
  11. Remember that's based on audience level and opinion. Many of my friends in Sydney had never been to another park besides Wonderland and thought it was the bees knees. For wonderland fanatics, the behind the scenes aspect to the video is awesome. For more worldly travellers, it's quite cringeworthy, but you only know what you know.
  12. the tremors are intentional. I don't think it's joins as it happens even as you leave the station ("attention, attention, the earthquake tremors are increasing..."). I don't think it's subs. I don't know what it is, but its intentional, constant (not just over joins), and couldn't be caused by subs (the force to do so would hit you in the chest also).
  13. I think though overhead lighting would ruin the dungeon atmosphere of the queue - if it was bright enough to clearly see the chains, for someone who has just come inside from broad sunlight - which is why subtly placed, but bright lights would work better (sure they're more expensive, and harder to implement) but we're always so critical of the level of themeing and detail they put in (or don't put in) that just plonking some bright overhead lights would be lambasted to the enth degree.
  14. Yes and no. Taft (which owned KECO) was only a minority stakeholder in Wonderland. Other owners at construction included James Hardie, Leighton Holdings and the NSW State Superannuation Board... Paramount purchased Taft \ KECO in 1992, but chose not to acquire the Taft\KECO stake in Wonderland as part of the deal. I think the logic behind it was the distance (as all the other KECO parks were in North America). Sunway didn't acquire Wonderland until 1997 - in the interim, the Taft\KECO share was purchased by a local group of investors - the identity of which I don't know, but I'm fairly certain they were other than the original investment group. I wish we did though - considering out of the 4 non-opening day attractions, both Demon and Probe were installed at a time when it was all locally owned. Only the Moore Park SkyRider was installed post-sunway, (and Zodiac while it was still KECO). That said, Probe was an expensive investment at the time, and possibly led to some cash flow issues leading to the sale to sunway - purely speculation, but it makes sense within a year after the ride opened.
  15. I was definitely cast during the Sunway era, however I grew up not far from the park and visited often. that level of service and 'show' wasn't really applicable even from 1994ish onwards. You probably could say Sunway had a lot to do with the standard slip, but i think it had slipped prior to their takeover, leaving them with no standards to follow in that regard.
  16. I can honestly say I never had to watch that while i worked there. Probably good too. I really gave it a good go but had to stop before the 13th minute. I like the idea, but sadly the park didn't really exhibit any of those traits in reality. Not to that extent anyway. Looks like this was before Probe, so i'd date it around 1992-1995, and it shows. I think better actors could have made the concept a reality - instead they have used real cast members, which isn't a bad idea, except when those cast members aren't 'showmen'. was nice to see the park back in that day though.
  17. *In a really poor attempt at an american accent - pretty much like all the other voiceovers \ videos in the park. @Roachie
  18. I love the queue lighting idea with LED, but to put them into the floor would need to be recessed, which is a lot of work, and will also ruin the themeing, since the floor is stencilled. A similar idea would be to have 'fixed' queue rails, rather than chains, which could have the lights mounted in a pelmet under the top rail. It would light them clearly enough underneath that people would see them. Colour change is nice, but probably unnecessary (and even with good intentions, the colour change probably would fall into disuse, or be broken). A single colour, even if it were red, blue, or warm white (please no cool white) on a dim setting would probably be sufficient. Any moveable sections, which would be chains, could easily have a light mounted on the end of the post shining across that path and illuminating the chain. Whether they have plans to do anything with the queue or not, its probably too late for them to have it ready for the refurbishment which is due to be ready by christmas, and further, they're unlikely to spend more money on a ride that is over a decade old, even if it is a popular one, unless it is part of the refurb and therefore part of the budget. It would be nice to have the queue rails lit somewhat better than they are, but they've survived this long without a major lawsuit, so its probably not a high priority. As for the curtains in the hallway, an excellent suggestion! And +1 for hiding the work light back of house. Whether or not they do narrow the queue line (they probably won't) people up against cloth aren't as likely to be able to do damage. Do it in a dark colour that pens or texta aren't likely to show up much (black or black patterned is probably best), and as long as they're a continuous drape from one end to the other, you're unlikely to have much issue with people getting in behind them... and even if they do, the drapes will naturally fall back into place, hiding it. The only issue with drapery is permanent installations do tend to look disgusting after a while - even the ones in main street are looking tired, and the only reason they look as good as they do is because being outside in the wind and the rain keeps the dust off. Inside that hallway, they'd be very dusty, very quickly.
  19. Nah, has to be a fountain. it is Fountain World after all.
  20. There's a reason every useful map in the world is top-down. There's a reason every major theme park i've ever been to has had a park map with exaggerated features to accentuate the parts guests need to know. There's a reason every major theme park i've ever been to has left their back of house \ outside park boundary areas as blank white space (unless the park, or an attraction straddles that space, in which case a simple "two lines with the name of the road inside it" suffices for the roadway. There's a reason why every part of this map isn't useful. There's also a reason why @Roachie is talking about mobile sites in a discussion that really doesn't have anything to do with it other than the fact that they're both poor decisions made by the same organisation - but that reason has nothing to do with most of the reasons above.
  21. Because of the theming aspects, and the horseshoe track layout surrounding the queue, I am curious to see how the queue copes in summer - there is no airflow, no ventilation... the shades look great, but they do look quite see-through. I will say i've stood under the one at the test seat and it did seem to do alright in providing shade though. I do hope they monitor the queue closely, and install fans \ water mist if appropriate.
