Cementing Movie World
I'm sure you could do some googling, but in short, as many know, Splash Mountain is loosely based on the Disney film - "Song of the South" - a film that has never been released on home video \ DVD in the united states. Despite the fact that the racism angle is just one of many (and there are plenty of angles that don't tar the film with the racism brush), logic and common sense don't make it too far in the zealot's world, and it became an outlet for the protesters to focus on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_of_the_South#Controversies

Probably different permissions \ royalties for that, but a nice idea.

Except the corridor in question doesn't have the queue video - just the surveillance camera.

Yes. Its similarly controlled to the thunderstorm in the hallway. not constantly flickering, but it cycles between dim, flickering, sudden brightness ("power surge") type stuff.

DC Rivals HyperCoaster - soft open discussion
to be fair, the construction thread is closed, but they're still constructing things that weren't ready before open. once the shades are in, and the loose article boxes start rotating, then everything will be open... i did notice last weekend that one of the loose item boxes had been removed... anyone know more?

DC Rivals HyperCoaster - soft open discussion
you could always have the track included in the enclosure from the brake run to the lift hill... #jussayin - you could also have then put in an extra block past the station, allowing pre-show (and faster operations \ cycles \ additional trains). its just wishful thinking. I'm not upset at all that they didn't do this at all - my original comment in this vein was more tongue in cheek, but with the money, it would have been possible. (it would have been a complete waste, but it would have been possible).

DC Rivals HyperCoaster - soft open discussion
Saw the one over the test seat on saturday, the others were being constructed in the maintenance driveway behind the wall. much nicer than a triangular shade sail held up on poles. the 'artsy' design of them is cool, but (i haven't seen them all installed yet) i tend to think that the rounded nature is going to leave gaping holes where guests are going to be punished by the sun. Not really much you can do unless you fully enclose, air condition and immersively theme the queue... #waitwhat

DC Rivals HyperCoaster - Fast Track available
Rivals is, I think, an exception to the rule, and perhaps (hopefully) a changing of the guard with regards to the view on what they charge for. I understand that there were several new designs implemented at Rivals we haven't seen in our parks previously, and i'm thankful to the person who brought them to our shores. Rivals is, as we know, well designed and managed without the need for random upcharges (I exclude fast track as it applies to many rides, although other parks can offer this for free to everyone, and I exclude backwards as it is a capacity limited option that has to be charged, and while technically reducing regular guest capacity by 4 per train, isn't something to complain about as a charge). When referring only and specifically to Rivals, you are correct - not a fair statement. When you consider the park (or better yet, VRTP as a whole) they've done their very best to monetise every experience possible. The ongoing gouging at Superman remains. They attempted it with Green Lantern but later backed off. We've talked ad nauseum about overseas parks offering free lockers so I won't re-raise the debate. Even the Sea World "Gate-Gate" was a clear attempt to funnel crowds through a choked part of the park, simply because it lead everyone past shops, food, drink and skill games. Even UTT and Hyped just struck a chord for me - here, buy the ULTIMATE tour... wait - now that you've bought it, buy the EVEN MORE THAN ULTIMATE upgrade! (especially as it seemed it was an afterthought). I'm not against pay for play experiences, as long as these are in the minority and additional (and value for the person buying it), and not of too much negative impact to the guest that just paid $100 to get in, expecting (most) things to be included in their ticket price, but these days it seems that after getting in the gate, the first few things that hit you are 'now that you're in, pay extra to do more', as opposed to 'this way to our awesome rides that speak for themselves, and are the main reason you're here'.

Ultimate Terror Tour Reviews (2017)
I don't partake in any upcharge expereriences, and haven't been to fright nights in a couple of years, for my own reasons. I hope to be able to go this year, depending on <item not mentioned to avoid Rappa's response regarding how I always bring it up>. From what i've read, both on the park's facebook page, here and from others i've talked to, it did seem like one couldn't even do all the inclusions that the Hyped ticket came with within the timeframe allowed. This is third hand info, so i'm not going to standby that, but that's the impression that I got. What would probably benefit the park is if they didn't 'lock in' the date of the 'pay to play' free pass they gave out - eg - panic room, makeup, DCR Fastpass. I know some of them did and some didn't, but all of them should be open ended. If they need to plan \ schedule capacity for the night (and fastpass isn't going to make a big dent) then instead of giving htem the actual ticket\voucher\wristband, give them a voucher to REDEEM the experience, which they have to do at the photo kiosk \ guest services \ wherever is convenient when making their booking for that particular night. (This would help them account for capacity if say - all the hyped guests returned on the final night to use these experiences, and would help them perhaps sell less direct to "general" guests that night) It would encourage those who did pay for the upcharge to book another night (bringing in more revenue in theory), and allow people to utilise those extras at their leisure. (And statistically, some guests would plan to use it on their next visit and then something would come up and it wouldn't get used = indirect profit $$$).

Dreamworld: Queensland Government considering legal action after Thunder Rapids deaths
The accident report, whilst compiled by experts, is still just 'opinion' of those experts. It is no way is a legal finding of negligence or recklessness (or any other legal term of fault) and the only way there can be is if it is taken to court and they are found liable \ guilty. The fact that they have withheld the report is probably because they are now seeking legal opinion on whether it is a viable case to take to court - so even at this stage, nobody is sure, and it may very well be the case that the legal opinion sought returns to state that the case is not worth pursuing... so let's calm down with the sky falling shit for now, hey?

Fright Nights 2017
fairly confident that noise restrictions are the same on any day for them, so don't think that has any part in it. probably higher staff costs plus lower attendance. I went one year when they opened on Halloween 31/10, and it wasn't a friday or saturday night. Park was quite dead.

Pretty sure that you already posted that in the maintenance schedules thread - something which is decidedly ON topic - so you probably didn't need to post it here as well.

Aren't those photos done by an external company on contract? Having worked a photo lab in a theme park, this is part of the reason why photos were such a high cost - is because all of the pre-printing, and potential waste. Since we have now moved into the digital age, it seems a bit strange that we haven't seen photo cost drop at all - since there could be less waste given a thermal printer can spit out an 8x12 in under a minute. The real reason for the pre-printing though is that a tangible, 'able-to-be-held-in-the-hand' product is far more easily sold than an image on a screen, (although it does then open the door for tightarses who want to argue 'you're only going to throw it away anyway, why can't I just have it for free?')

its a shame it will have to wait until the next maintenance period if that is the case, i'd have thought things like this would have been addressed prior to opening. Most attractions we see come online just before school holiday periods, and then usually go back down for maintenance immediately after those holidays (sort of like a run-in period) - DCR isn't likely to get that though, given it's proposed up-time for Fright nights. We might see it in November, depending on the maintenance schedule for the rest of the park, but if it is an alignment issue, I do hope that they can fix it before Xmas. after thought: if it is an alignment issue, is it present only on one train, or both?

Its a hypercoaster. Its not a dark ride like scooby, or a flume like wild west. I don't think anyone was expecting some sort of immersive theme with this monster, and it isn't necessary. You have to judge apples with apples. Of course it isn't the best themed ride in the park, but if you compare it to other full circuit coasters, you start looking at Arkham, HWSW, and suddenly the theming looks pretty damn good. I thought this was actually a really good idea. Not sure if its a convenient side effect or if it is by design, but the 'stutter' opening of the harnesses tends to shake the seatbelt loose of its mount - much better than a manually operated seatbelt that requires riders to open them manually - you end up with rider issues like on Doomsday where the rider can't get the seatbelt open. I know that these statements out of context can appear a little confusing, as you've said these points during different elements of the track, so there is obviously different forces at play here, but im confused. I've always considered airtime opportunities to be much higher (and much better) in the rear, but you seem to be favouring the front for the best airtime here... i'm no expert so i'm keen to hear from those with more knowledge on this. No idea what you're talking about. One of the smoothest coasters i've been on and never picked up anything like what you're referring to. Perhaps they read my suggestion from the other day? Enthusiastic guy selling the wristbands - that sounds like Charles. Man that guy's an energiser bunny. He deserves some kudos - because even during 'technical rehearsal' phase, he was constantly interacting with guests waiting in line, high fives, and just general all round cheeriness. Movie World needs more staff like this. If you have to know where they are to feel them, then they aren't noticeable. Can honestly say I haven't felt the trims engage at all. Interesting that your top row (or is it the 5th top row?) is Row 2 - which is the back row of the front car, considering what you said about row 9. All that amazingness, and the rattle is the sole reason it's not a perfect 10? Don't get me wrong - to be honest i don't think I can think of any ride i'd give a perfect 10 to, but for all the pluses (and minuses) that exist for this ride - a rattle wouldn't be something i'd dock for (although, I can't say i've noticed it, and considering the noise you get on Arkham through the twists, I don't think if i did hear it on rivals that it would bother me) - i'd be more likely to dock points for the shitty operations (which sounds like they've already tried to improve) than any 'rattle'. All round though I think its a pretty fair review - sure theres a few things i've taken issue with - as said above - but that is just an opinion, as is your review, and i'm sure not everyone will feel exactly the same about this ride. Thanks for sharing your thoughts... my wife will get her first chance to ride it tomorrow so it's given me a little more to go on.

Dreamworld - 2017 "exciting" "experiences"
I think if thats your view, you've probably overanalysed what's being said. Of course, in time, Dreamworld can compete - either at level or with a different target. But currently as they stand, with the history of what they do and have done, and what they're currently doing, nothing compares or competes with Movie World, and I think that's whats being said - its a call for change, which is pretty much precisely what you've suggested - a change in tactics.
