some tower cranes self erect, others require smaller cranes to give them a boost.

If you haven't seen a crane go up before, I suppose it is kind of Wow. Thing to remember is these things are built to be mobile (if you need a fixed crane, you get a fixed crane), and mobile cranes are only earning money when they're working - so set up and pack up needs to be as (safely) quick as possible. Depending on the size\model, some need accessories (like boom components or outriggers) removed before they can travel on-road, but all the power comes from the truck\crawler unit at the bottom - so it's a matter of just connecting the pieces together when it gets on site, and then raising the boom. It's awesome to watch. What's not awesome is when these monsters are still on the highway during morning peak hour! (depending on the tonnage, etc - some of these can only do 65-80kph - and some even slower than that)

^yeah, and? Only in the last week, we've discussed that Wipeout opened briefly post-safety-audit, before closing again for maintenance. @Skeeta doesn't call two weeks 'open' but it was open. so all 9 of their big 9 have reopened since the audit - the message they're sending is that none of them are still closed 'pending a safety audit issue'. the fact that wipeout is in more pieces than a superman train during maintenance (pause, you'll get it) is beside the point, it's not "still closed due to failure to pass safety inspection" - the video message is "the ride is safe".

I did say "some" of what they say can be relied upon - for example when they told me when they planned to lift the first piece, etc We also discussed at the time that these riggers and steel workers aren't coaster enthusiasts. I don't think 'inversion' was the term used, i think it was 'loop' and there are several elements that the lay-person would mis-interpret looking at plans etc. As for dates planned \ scheduled for lifting, especially those within the next week or two, these guys would know this info because it would already be on their roster - therefore this info is likely to be more reliable than "this thing that hasn't even gone vertical yet is going to go upside 60 times."

the guys doing the construction are quite happy to chat to fence-gawkers. some of what they say can be relied upon as being true.

Thanks @themagician! I know sometimes people post things up quickly, but its great to come into this thread and not view the same photo from a slightly different angle 12 different times, just so everyone who took a photo of the same thing got to post it. This has to be one of the most photographed rides in history and it's not even running yet - so thanks for being considerate!

KMG Afterburner accident - Ohio State Fair "Fire Ball" ride
Dude, seriously, calm down and re-read my post - I would have thought my insistence for this to be done every 42 days would have been a dead giveaway I wasn't serious.

I know it's ugly as sin, but i feel like these supports are far easier to construct and install than a giant tower. personally i think it would have looked better, i'm not against the idea, but that's my 2c.

It comes down to the manufacturer also - the manufacturer should stipulate what maintenance is needed, and when. Government regulations can impose harsher \ more in depth maintenance than the manufacturer, but that's it. You can't really expect the owner of an amusement device to do anything more than what the manufacturer specifies is required. If the manufacturer says 'this component is good for XX time period' - why would they spend money with costly testing and analysis every <shorter time period than specified> ? Until the parks unbolt every piece of track to inspect at component level, frankly, we should consider all coasters to be death traps too. This should happen at least once every 42 days.

Yes, but they've sold passes with FN as an inclusion. it'd be hard to cancel without some form of recompense to the passholders who purchased that inclusion. I'd suggest other priorities (say - a giant pink coaster) has them diverted, plus, installing the maze into intencity is something they've done many times now, and maybe they don't need as much time as they used to - i mean come on, they still have TWO MONTHS until October. it's not like it's next week.

it strikes me that the kool aid response would be a better way or reacting to a 'dippin dots' style post than a reply asking if the info came from the dippin dots guy...

'Fix Ardent' website
You could probably look at the financials \ annual reports published each year to see what the company values the property at. Sure you only get what someone's willing to pay for it, but their valuations tend to be a good indication...

Even facebook allows a thumbs down though. I think given more options to react, there would be a lot less 'thumbs down' used. Failing that - i'd like to see this one (the tag is : wacko : ) which would probably suit some perfectly.
