Thoughts on my latest visit to the Gold Coast

The boxes are too small for large bags and it is a bit risky leaving items like wallets and phones there. -
Thoughts on my latest visit to the Gold Coast
Gary86 replied to pushbutton's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I think that with the $2 1 hour hire lockers for rides such as Superman Escape, Green Lantern and Jet Rescue you should get your $2 back if you end your hire within the hour. Than you can use the same coin for other rides. If you kept your locker for more than an hour the park keeps your money. Rides should be free! -
Jet Rescue at Sea World also requires you to hire a locker and I'm sure the new water coaster opening in September will also require locker hire. The current system is just not convienent. I don't mind if they changed it to a system like Wet n Wild where you get a wistband to open your locker and paying $10 for a day. It's much better than having to pay $2 for 1 hour hire every time you want to go on one of WVTP's great coasters. If they fix this syetem they will be the #1 Gold Coast themepark. The only good thing about Dreamworld is that I can ride all rides without need to hire a locker.

It's possable that they are working on a longer version of Vikings while they are building the new water coaster and that Vikings will go underneath. For other parks Dreamworld need to repair, retheme and reopen the Mine Ride, add a decent rollercoaster, new shows, fix paddle steamer. Movieworld and Seaworld need to improve the locker hire system.

From Sea World Maintenance Page "Viking's Revenge Flume will be closed for maintenance from 13th May until 26th May 2013 inclusive and 7th Oct until 27th Oct 2013 inclusive." Since it's closed for most of October mayby they will make it longer in October after the new coaster has been built. It's possible that they made it shorter to get it out of the construction site, after the new ride is built they can then expand the Vikings Revenge.

Dreamworld's current advertising campaign

So where in the world is there too much fun to have in one day? Only at Wonderworld! I think Wonderland does look better.... -
If it's another flat ride or lazer tag I won't renew my pass.

Eureka Mountain Mine Ride Replacement Announced
Gary86 replied to westical's topic in Theme Park Discussion
But they have replaced the Mine Ride. It is now the abandoned mine... with carnival games that are rarely open! -
I seriously doubt they will have real gorillas (as seen on the billboard). I'm guessing it will be a jungle area and information centre. Jungle animals don't fit in with Sea World, they will only have real sea creatures.
-
I think "Wild" will be a replacement for "Dinosaur Island" and be a similar attraction with animatronic animals, opening early 2014.

I hope it's a family ride like LTRR was and not a boring kids ride like Dreamworld's Big Red Car ride probably is...

I've never heard the audio anytime during my 3 visits to MW last year (July, November and White Christmas).

Dreamworld 5 year plan - a challenge
Gary86 replied to aussienetman's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The main problem with Dreamworld is they forgot the reason it was built. Dreamworld was susposed to be a park like Disneyland in Australia. But now they have destroyed some of the old Disneyland like attractions (original Avalanche mountain - destroyed when Nick Central came along - now demolished, Gum Tree Gully show, paddle steamer), and all recent ride additions do not live up to Disneyland standards. -

I love the comment Dreamworld made about keeping the Paddle Steamer and Mine Ride around. But they don't realise that rotting away attractions don't look pretty... Why don't they just fix them up? -

You can still hear that Tower of Terror in the animal area. It is way too loud! Watch the start of this video from 1987 for an interview with John Longhurst... -

Wet n Wild sued for traumatic Aqualoop ride
Gary86 replied to westical's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I got stuck on the Aqualoop too but it is not a reason to sue. That is why they have a hatch for the staff to let you out. -
things you remember and miss from the gold coast theme parks

I do think that Batman Adventure was way better than Justice League. Much more thrilling and exciting. I don't really miss Stingray, the attractions I miss most at Dreamworld are Eureka Mountain Mine Ride,Outback Celebration / Country Jamboree and Thunderbolt. -
Why don't they have a system like motorcoaster where you put you bags in one side of the wall and collect them on the other. At least then I might be able to shop at the Superman Escape store! I did like to locker hire system at Wet n Wild. Movieworld and Seaworld would be much better parks if they had a similar system of scanning wristbands purchased at park retail stores at the locker station to open locker and be able to use any locker in the park - all day, so you can take your items between rides.

Dreamworld 5 year plan - a challenge

It would be great if they were able to create an observation deck on top of the tower. It is a great view up there and it would be nice to enjoy the view without the inevitable drop. A great attraction for the whole family to enjoy. On to the mine ride a new dark ride like the old mine ride would be great! But I do think that the mountain is in so much disrepair that it may need to be demolished and rebuilt. This will cause the TRR to have to close for an extended period of time, but it will give them a chance to retheme the rapid ride - maybe do something abut the "jungle area" , put back the crocodile and elephants that squirt water. The motorcoaster does need a new train but it would be great if they at least relocated it and put the vintage cars back - but it won't happen... Food needs improving and the cinema should be 4D - then they can show 4D Dreamworks films such as Shrek 4D Adventure. From now on I will go on the mild setting of Pandamodum - but no one ever does so the wait is too long... -

The Giant Drop, Thunder River Rapids and Log Ride close at 4pm. This is on weekdays only and all rides operate 10-5 on weekends and school holidays.

There is a link to the "off peak attraction guide" in my original post. I don't like the idea of closing certain rides at 4pm. It didn't bother me that they opened later as I didn't get to Dreamworld till after midday (spent the morning over at Wet n Wild) but why close populer rides like the Thunder River Rapids. I usualy like to ride those type of rides at the end of the day till the park closes. There wasn't any long line that day (last Tuesday) so even though I wasn't there all day I did ride all rides that were open but ALL rides should repain open till 5pm - with the rapid ride and log ride closed what about the older guests who don't like thrill rides?
-
I went to W&W yesterday morning for the first time in many years and there was not many people there. I went on all the slides by midday so I decided to spend the rest of my day over at Dreamworld. The only bad thing about W&W is some of the rafts are quite heavy and you need to carry them up all those stairs...
-
A word of warning for anyone planning a trip to Dreamworld on weekdays. Certain rides no longer operate all day. Entry price remains the same. After 4pm it's vomet time when Dreamworld decide to close the Thunder River Rapids and Log Ride only leaving the thrill rides open. By the way the water in Thunder River Rapids looked quite filthy when the rapids are turned off. http://www.dreamworl...ation-Hours.pdf I persume this is only during off peak times and not during school holidays. There was not many people there so queue times were short. There was only 2 people in line for Cyclone and other rides I went straight on! It did get quite boring after 4pm when the rapid ride closed Movie World and Sea World operate there rides all day. Another thing that puts Dreamworld behind the competition...
