  1. Seriously... you are pulling me up for putting VTP instead of VRL? (Considering we are talking about the theme park component of the results here...) how does "magic can be yours now" relate in anyway to "get into the action on the best of our rides"?? (Are they admitting to having crap rides, so we should only get into the action on the best ones???) They are not familiar or linked at all.. if the tag lines are "action" "best" and "rides" then put them into a sentence that makes sense..
  2. Yeah true, I guess when one of the major points stated that the theme parks division will be down, but the level of which will be dependent upon June VIP renewals, that I expected some commentary on what they will to drive those sales and minimise the loss..
  3. No mention of the new coaster in the half year results presentation, which seems odd to me given that the results are poor for the entire company (not just theme parks). Just a little 'new attraction coming soon'. You'd think they'd have wanted to instill some confidence in the market by shouting out "biggest attraction in the Southern Hemisphere". here's the relevant page of their presentation They also need a better PR company to do their presentation slides. Some of the wording is terrible for an official released document. "Get into the action on the best of our rides" ??? "Importantly, Dreamworld is of course not a VTP park" ?? who wrote this?
  4. Agree with Alex that the majority of the track will likely be stored within the ride footprint. No need for additional fencing, easy access in & out and convenient for when things start going upwards..
  5. Agree. Dr Who is a big no for me. It's popular, but it's niche. I like the genre, but for reasons even unbeknownst to me, I struggle to engage with a lot of British film/tv. To me Dr Who is one of those shows where the fans think that it's super popular, amazing tv & believe everyone loves it, but in reality everyone on the outside of the 'Whovians' are looking at them thinking wtf....
  6. Did you jump into it head first at 100km/h?? the simple fact is your head or neck isn't designed to be colliding with anything at that speed.
  7. Knew I should have put a little * with a disclaimer at the bottom.. @AlexB I agree that West/Gold Rush CAN be exciting & wow, if done right. Disney obviously set the benchmark, and I guess my comment is derived from parks that think if they use weathered/rusty/disheveled furnishings they have succeeded in creating a themed area. Wild West at MW could be an exceptional example if there was more in the area. The mountain itself is awesomely done by Australian & even some international standards. The facades are great, but if a few of them were not facades but actual store fronts, whether they be retail, F&B etc, I think it would add greatly to the area.
  8. TBH I'm not crazy for the 'Australiana' theme anyway. We're in Australia, why so we need a themed area in the park themed to where you are? Just seems a confusing context to me. I get Gold Rush theming paying homage to a past era in our history. But that's relevant to the mining era in many countries, not just Australia. It also been done to death as a theme. It's not an overly exciting theme, it's not vibrant, welcoming, there's not much WOW to it as a theme IMO... I'd rather see something fresh, creative & modern...
  9. Smashing your head into a cage if you went airborne off the Hump at that speed would likely have had a similar outcome...
  10. What you got against Blinky Bill huh?
  11. Was expecting you to say like 10-15 workmen.. if i say "a number of...." it's usually because I can't be bothered counting the total number, but counting to 3 or 4 isn't too strenuous on my brain..
  12. Yeah I'm a bit stumped on that comment @downunder obviously you can have any opinion you want, but to say it's a punishment just sounds epicly negatively skewed to me.. i take it you generally dislike all Australian parks then? And I'd question if 2 visits in 12 years is enough to accurately judge a parks merits..
  13. Thought it would be a good idea to have a thread about the current monthly benefits each month for VTP Unlimited Members. February actually has some unique SW experiences that sound pretty good... On offer are: * accommodation & breakfast package at SWR * adults @ kids prices for Outback Spectacular Plus
  14. The WD maze succeeded in it brought some fairly familiar scenes from the early seasons to life - the camper van, hospital, parking lot. Id happily see another WD maze updated to the more recent seasons with Negan chasing you around
  15. **apologies for the bad font changes... formatting not copying well from the page...** MOVIE World’s next big attraction is on track for a September launch date, right in time for the school holidays. Large-scale ground works are well under way at the Oxenford theme park to create a series of new attractions, including a new roller-coaster and $35-million golf facility. Foundations have now been laid for what is believed to be the roller-coaster, a 200-foot tall ‘hyper coaster’, while land has been cleared for the golfing attraction, Bunting placed on fencing around the construction site over the Christmas tourism season announced September as the opening date, with the Topgolf attraction expected to be the first to take customers. A Village Roadshow spokesman yesterday said the company “looked forward to making an announcement. The Topgolf attraction, the first of its kind in Australia, will take up 6ha of land in the south of the park neat the Outback Spectacular. It will feature golf games for all ages and skill levels along with a chef-driven menu, drinks, big-screen TVs and music held in climate-controlled suites. Park bosses expect it to welcome more than 500,000 people annuall The roller-coaster is expected to follow soon after, with parts for what will become the track already spotted arriving at the theme park. The 60m high thrill ride will become the Gold Coast’s tallest attraction and will be built by German-based manufacturer Mack Rides. The September opening date was welcomed by Gold Coast Tourism chairman Paul Donovan who said it was the time ahead of school holidays “We have already seen what happens when new attractions come online in theme parks and it certainly bolsters visitations,” he said, speaking to the Bulletin from Singapore “September is a great time for new attractions to open because there will be the school holidays and by then we will be six months out from the Commonwealth Games. “Everything we will have been working on will have come to fruition.” It comes as planning continues on a new 731 car space carpark for Movie World. Public consultation on the project, earmarked for a site on Michigan Drive ended in January and it is expected to go before the Gold Coast City Council’s planning committee for approval within weeks. More than 100 submissions were received from residents. Movie World is also understood to be proceeding with plans for a proposed hotel and waterside precinct on the site of the existing carpark. The nine-story boutique project has already been granted building approval and the Bulletin understands Village Roadshow is searching for an accommodation provider to partner with it on the development. source: GC Bulletin http://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/news/movie-worlds-next-big-attraction-to-open-to-the-public-in-september/news-story/87326f600e8180b6aba8e1499d31c97a
  16. Wow.. are we the top google search for RE7 forum? 2 new members join today and both of them have a first post about Resident Evil and disagreeing with me 'generaling' the zombie/dead thing genre..
  17. I wasn't sure after reading your post... so just adding... This show is additional to the 2 Affinity presentations daily. Cant be bad thing... I guess.. no rides = "let's just make the dolphins work harder"
  18. Damn it, you got me... no I haven't played RE7. Though I have played every iteration prior. i have seen a gameplay trailer and there looked like standard zombies to me... the thing with a property like RE is that if you fork out the $$ for the rights, you would need to draw from the entire series to do justice to it. You also would need to use 'generic' zombies/victims to simplify the costume/makeup requirements, just as they have in every other licensed property used before
  19. Way too cryptic for me tonight... Is it a pot of gold? The missing track for the MW hyper? a Wanda executive with a large briefcase?
  20. Was gonna say, if that's the stage 2 they've certainly spared no expense and gone all out... wooden stump - check Paint some aboriginal patterns - check stage 2 is open!
  21. So you're wanting to keep the Gold Rush theming for the area?
  22. Well there are quite a lot of triangles in the MW logo....
  23. Haha... i don't want a walk-though or a monorail though...
  24. I'd love to see an underwater viewing area for the crocs, but know that's probably asking too much.
