Raging Waters to become Sydney Action Park

@New display name the MW and SW operating hour reductions were only confirmed at the end of June, while the WnW winter reading hours comes into effect after ANZAC Day. Therefore I would agree with the logic that we could see WnW close on weekdays, or for the Winter to align with Villages current business changes.

If they closed for the 10 weeks either side of the winter holidays, surely the cost to get the park up and running twice (for winter holidays and then for spring holidays) wouldn’t be worthwhile for the low crowds they getting during the winter holidays.

Anything can happen, but right now when you buy a Season Pass it says, "Unlimited entry to 4 world-class theme parks for one whole year." That's after all the cuts they've already made.

So unless you're saying Village is misleading people, their own marketing suggests all four parks are expected to remain part of the pass for the year.

The way things are going, WnW is probably the life jacket keeping Village afloat. 😉

If Village was going to close WnW, @Noll_57 they would've done it when MW and SW had their operating days cut. Waiting to next year would be like announcing Christmas has been cancelled on Boxing Day.

You mean like they announced Carnivale wouldn't return next year after it had finished this year? You're a mental case.

They're only just now making the decisions, and we're mostly clear of winter already. WWW doesn't open until December, but we're essentially at the halfway point of their seasonal closure. It wouldn't make sense to shut the park down now - there's a lot of things like maintenance planning that has to change, supplies and parts to order to get maintenance done in an off season. Plus you need to figure out what to do with your staff. All of this takes time, and kneejerking a shutdown could cost more money than continuing the current season.

Some people just don't get it.

It still says "12 months entry to Whitewaterworld" on the Dreamworld annual pass too - though you can find 'seasonal' elsewhere.

It didn't stop them from cancelling Carnivale and issuing ticket holders a small compensation either - so it won't stop them deciding to close WNW seasonally next season any more than it stops them from running carnivale, or providing a lake show in sea world, or anything else.

Saying "they won't do that because they should have done it sooner" is ridiculous.

I know you probably meant September, but just noting it incase anyone is confused. And now that we’re in August, we’re well past the halfway point

Thanks for the correction - I was going off the pass dates for last season on their website which shows the season opening on the 9th of December and closing on the 19th of April. I can see in the operating calendar that they're open for about 4 weeks over the September holidays and then revert to weekend trade until December 11th.

It does however amplify the ridiculousness of the argument that WnWGC should close now.

This is relatively old news now since the website update of July 30 but here in case anyone is interested in the interview with Jamberoo's marketing director, which includes a more precise (in terms of when it won't be open), though still vague, time for the opening of the new water coaster.

From The Illawarra Mercury (17th/18th June):

Jamberoo to control the action in newly-purchased Sydney water park

In a multi-million-dollar deal Jamberoo Action Park's owners have picked up a Sydney water park.

The Jamberoo-based business is now the lease-holder of Raging Waters in the western Sydney suburb of Prospect.

Also reviously known as Wet and Wild, the park - which is on land owned by the NSW Government - will be rebranded as Sydney Action Park.

Jamberoo marketing director Grant Wright said the purchase cost "tens of millions of dollars" and they will spend the winter closure carrying out upgrades.

"It needs a general spruce up, refurbishment and renovation overall, but we're going to bring more to it than just that" Mr Wright said.

"If you've ever been to Jamberoo Action Park, one of the strengths of this business is its presentation and attention to detail.

"We're looking forward to applying that to Sydney Action Park as well. In addition to that, the vision for the brand is to make it an unmissable icon of Sydney."

The revamps will include dividing the park into precincts tagged City, Beaches, Gardens and Cultural West reflecting other significant locations in Sydney.

However, the upgrade won't include a new ride ready for the September re-opening.

"Usually these things need to be initiated just before the closure of the park for the winter periods and then we get it done during the off-season in preparation for the opening next time round," Mr Wright said.

"There is definitely a vision for a new water coaster type of ride there, but that'll that'll come in the seasons ahead."

Mr Wright didn't believe increasing the appeal of the Sydney park would result in fewer customers travelling south to Jamberoo.

He was taking the view that Jamberoo was an escape from the city while the other would be a bucket list item to tick off on the list of things to do in Sydney.

"There's a difference that we will put across and each park will deliver upon, that will give guests reason to go to both, not just one" he said.

"We're not interested in it becoming a franchise, but we will take a lot of the good parts of Jamberoo and apply them to the business in Sydney to lift it up.

Noting they have removed the sky coaster from the park map (whether it’s been pulled down or not is unclear)

The park has shared on their socials that it has been removed and at the end tease this could be the location of something new in the future.

At least the eddys are making the park their own out of the gate and are keen to clear some land up for new stuff

I’ve just been past the park and from the outside the park is looking so much better. The repainted slides make such a difference (similarly to when WWW had its repaint). There’s no new car park entry sign yet, and for anyone who’s driven past before it is hard to see much other than slide towers.

The park have been sharing updates on their socials most days and they’re really putting a lot of love into the park to give itself a identity and pleasant guest experience.
