Atari, the guys we all know and love for RCT and at the same time hate for a lack of RCT4, have just filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy http://goo.gl/VRykJ

The maker of one of the world's first video games, Atari, has filed for bankruptcy. The video game maker's US operations have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in an effort to separate from their French parent company, which is filing a similar motion separately in France. In a statement, Atari says the move is necessary to secure investments it needs to grow in mobile and downloadable video games

Atari said it expects to sell its assets or confirm a restructuring plan within the next three to six months.

So maybe with any luck, they'll sell the rights for RCT to someone who will actually listen to their customers/fans and make a fourth edition.

For those who don't know, there is a port of RCT for the 3ds...... And my thoughts on the situation........

The 3DS is the same as Atari taking a giant shit on the franchise.

Although it doesn't appear on any website, i've seen the case in EB, and it does look good for DS standards. And it shits over Thrillville in EVERY way. Also the 3DS is making an uprising now......due solely to the fact that Pokemon X and Y are on it.

No but they (atari) built up suspense saying they were working on a new game in the series so everyone was anticipating #4 to come out, then they bring out this instead. Everyone had been asking for years for #4 then they get some crappy portable version. Now they're working on an iOS version too.

The IOS (and Android) versions are GUARANTEED to be a swing and a miss.Although if they do take this right and do what Krome studios are doing, we should see something by the turn of the 30th century?

Atari Inc. now plans to sell its brands on a franchise-by-franchise basis during auctions beginning next month. The Humongous, Fatty Bear's Birthday Surprise, and Math Gran Prix franchises are going for $500,000, while the Total Annihilation series will be available with a $250,000 floor price.

Before the auctions can take place, a judge must approve of the sale process, something Atari hopes can happen during a June 11 hearing. Bids must then be submitted by July 10 ahead of auctions to take place July 16, 17, 18, and 19. If all goes to plan, Atari will seek final approval of all sales during a hearing on July 24.

The minimum bid for the RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise is $3.5 million

In all honesty, i think they've reached limits with RCT. theres a lot more that they can do as computing power increases, but they've got a pretty realistic product as it stands, and other than development of new rides to insert into the existing platform, there isn't really much left to do.

This was the original Atari's Software Division, from before Jack Tramiel's time. Just think this needs to be pointed out. This isn't the same Atari Corporation that made the 2600. It was the Software division, which spun off into it's own company(Atari Software, later Atari Inc and then Infogames, before they realised the Jack Tramiel Atari had died and they had the legal rights to the trademark) very early in the 1980s.
