  1. Guest Services contacted me yesterday regarding my complaint. They advised that during it's recent downtime, there were a number of issues surrounding the Ghost Train section of the ride. One thing lead to another and given the ride's age of 15 years, these things couldn't wait any longer and needed to be addressed by way of removing everything and starting all over again with a clean slate. The time frame would only allow for removing everything and unfortunately not the dark ride scenes. A fairly last minute decision was to reopen the ride for the school holidays to help with crowd capacity and give people the opportunity to experience the roller-coaster. The ride will remain open in it's current form until the Crowd levels subside. My guess until the end of January. They added that they understand how immensely popular with visitors and it's for this reason that it get's the chance for a new lease on life. I really hope this is true because Scooby-Doo is still a very marketable and valuable franchise to the MW brand. I gave my feedback to GS to pass on regarding the lack of communication to Park goers and that a clear expectation needs to be set for would-be riders (including foreign visitors) so they know and understand what to expect, especially after waiting two+ hours... yikes! I asked for Ride Attendants to be more vocal about this which they said they would pass on. After reviewing the opinions of all and speaking to them directly, I'm willing to give MW the benefit of the doubt and look forward to seeing an improved rebuild of the ride using today's show technology.

  2. For those who haven't seen The Fire Machine yet, I have it on good authority you'll see some pretty decent vision of it pretty soon. In the interim, here's a few shots I took recently to give you an idea of what to expect. For what it's worth, I think the show is great. It might not be technically finessed as say AOS, but as far as nightly crowd pleasers go, it has everything going for it. It's, big, loud, and a great watch to finish the day on a high with. I'd love to see it become a regular annual staple for the park and continue to build it in new and interesting ways (kind of like Sydney Vivid).

  3. I was stupid enough to drop in to Movie World today to check out Scooby and after two hours of waiting understood the necessity of opening this attraction. It's ugly and disappointing and feels like some temporary fairground ride set up in an empty show stage but I guess they had no choice. The park is packed and anything to suck in a crowd is a good move. A-frame signs are now full size and in multiple locations using very similar wording to as what has been suggested on the forum. Some of the fake wood paneling that was rife with graffiti and general wear has been nicely repainted during the down time (correct me if this happened earlier) suggesting that the station is not an issue.. It was darker inside than the photos but the temporary construction fences were very fairgroundy. A few sounds still played like the laughing guy that spins around and I believe the "scooby doo where are you" in the elevator. The ride camera was still snapping photos leaving the flash to illuminate the building . I saw one "animatronic" in the darkness eerily just sitting there giving a five nights at Freddy vibe which could be said of the whole attraction. It reminded me of when I went on a near abandoned flume ride at night at jerudong park brunei in 2005 but that is another story for another time. The disco room remains as is which leads to the rude shock of tribal music playing as you enter a square black room that over looks the rest of the track. After the final drop the ride halts leaving plenty of time to look over the rest of the ghost train section track until it's time to unload and in my case listen to the lady behind me try to convince her friend that this ride used to have things in it. I'm glad I got to see it in this strange state (it's like ridding it while it was being tested for the first time) and it was truly a spooky coaster making me feel uneasy seeing something so familiar gone without replacement. The sad part was hearing exited children talking about seeing monsters and scooby doo in there and as a kid I would have been greatly disappointed having two hours of a themed queue (and that awful video sans the AOL logo) hyping me up to see nothing. It's all temporary and will be back but I feel it may have been a better used opportunity to remove or cover the scooby branding for this holiday season and have some form of temporary generic name for the attraction and add more lasers/atmospherics projections? something and sell it as a new limited time experience. Again I don't know how much time there was after the decision was made but I feel it would have been cool!

  4. If you haven't seen it, here is my idea for an 'open ocean' themed area at the SBNO Sea World Resort Water Park site. This isn't a new 'themed' area but given DW has a Motorsports Experience, I wished they utilised the remaining land/back of house area on the former Thunderbolt site to move MDMC to there as well as the Vintage Cars. To complete it, FlowRider would also be moved to inside Whitewater World allowing all the rides of the Motorsports Experience to be connected with flowing theming. This would be very difficult to do (especially a MDMC relocation) but it would make it a very decently themed area afterwards: Hotwheels Sidewinder Brock's Garage V8 Redline Simulators Mick Doohan's Motocoaster Vintage Cars When I first saw that movie in 2005, I hoped MW , at the time, would build a new dark water ride (to replace LTRR) to suit the film based on this scene: The show building being themed as the factory and the queue going through the 'factory' gates/doors, through the Wonka's Welcome Song animatronic display (not all burnt though), through the entrance/main corridor to the Chocolate Room (using forced perspective to make the next doorway look small) before wandering around the Chocolate Room to the edge of the Chocolate River. A trip along the Chocolate River being the ride's main part. The exit of the ride goes through the various other rooms of the factory before you enter the Great Glass Elevator as a 'post-show' section which 'transports' you back to MW. The dark water ride I could have seen being either a boat ride (like LTRR & BT), a water coaster or a river rapids ride. The former LTRR had 'elevators' which could have been re-themed as the Great Glass Elevator. I do know Alton Towers have a Charlie & The Chocolate Factory ride that is similar in concept.

  6. Went down to Dreamworld this afternoon... carpark was about half full but all rides were a walk-on. One thing that stuck out to me was the cheerfulness of staff... nearly every staff member I encountered seemed happy and many were talking to guests. Zombie Evilution was a pleasant surprise, not having done this as a scare maze myself I wasn't expecting much from the reviews I've read, but it was a pretty solid scare maze with several decent scares (I think the lady jumping out of the cinema screen at the start caught me off-guard the most). Staff here were amazing, when we arrived there was no-one else in the queue and the two ladies at the front were very friendly to us while we waited for people to fill the 6 people minimum. I counted 10 actors in there (plus the greeter and cinema lady), I'm not sure if I may have counted some of them twice so there may have been a few less. Fog and darkness gives off a pretty scary atmosphere, and some of the actors really do have zombie noises perfected. Overall a really solid attraction that I definitely prefer over the laser tag. Didn't stay until the fire show since we had to get back to Brisbane, but overall the park had a really nice atmosphere. Not dead quiet, but not really busy either which meant no queues. WWW looked a little busier from the carkpark.

  7. For those, curious, it's on Movie World's Facebook page (yet strangely it's not on their YouTube page?) Bloody great little TVC. End shot where the hero female breaks the fourth wall is super cringeworthy, but sans that tiny detail, I do really dig the look and feel of it all.

  8. The themes I'd like to see aren't able to be licensed to any parks in Australia. Star Wars - Disney My dream ride is a speeder bike Endor ride. Dark ride - inside Death Star with ride cars as x-wings, like Return of the Jedi. Multiple launch coaster - Pod Race. Snow Speeder motion control ride (like Star Tours at Disney or B:TR @ Movieworld). Family walkthrough - Ewok Tree Village. Food area: Mos Eisley Cantina. Indiana Jones - Disney Mine Cart ride inspired by Temple of Doom. Water Rapids ride/Dark Water ride - Temple of Doom rapids, turns into something like Pirates of the Caribbean. Food area - Club Obi Wan (wait, what?!??), WW2 era Dirigible (projected sky outside windows). Ride similar to Revenge of the Mummy, but both indoor and outdoor using the opening scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark (idol, boulder in cave, jungle escape). Jurassic Park - Universal So instead, my other ideas include: Retro (50s) SciFi Fantasy inspired by Lord of the Rings Steampunk Motoring - hot/classic cars, racing cars, motor bikes, vintage cars.

  9. Arkham VR is now being advertised on one of the road billboards at Brisbane Airport. It's definitely operational?

  14. I've been looking through this chat and all I can see is people saying, "They are making terrible decisions" and things similar to that. Not to sound rude or anything but they probably know what they are doing, and they know better than you do. Im actually excited to see what comes out of this. Anyone else with me?

  15. Photo Credit: Theme Parks All In One VRTP have managed to combine Movie World's love of A-Frame signs with Dreamworld's love of A4 signs! Although I'm not sure what a "spoky" coaster is?

  17. VRTP deserve some strong criticism for not having completed this work prior to peak season. Seems like this isnt the only project that has slipped either (e.g. Super8 Racers took longer than should have also.) One thing in my strong opinion they dont deserve criticism for is re-opening the ride over the summer peak however. Some of the comments here are naiive and frankly a little selfish. Naiive because VRTP are hardly going to keep a ride that is perfectly safe to operate closed over the peak when they have had two unscheduled ride outages take out capacity already (VR at SW and DD at MW). They need all the capacity they can get over the summer! Selfish because at the end of the day if you feel upset by seeing the ride in that condition you have an alternative. Don't ride it! There are plenty of people (e.g. the interstate tourists that drop the big bucks over summer) that might feel disappointed that the ride looks in that condition but will still appreciate the ride's sensations if they do go on it and the capacity it offers to the park if they don't...

  18. Here's a couple of pics I took last night. The Tiger Island billboard has been changed over, and the Cub Kindy shop has gone. All Kevil Hill themed again now ☺️ From what I've heard also, it's just the maze. Also have good reason to believe that the Tailspin will be reopening tomorrow. Apparently the Wipeout is not far from its public return, either ☺️?

  19. @Gazza I didn't say it wasn't the correct thread to post it in. Just saying we were talking about something else in another thread and it came up. Conversations lead into other conversations all the time. I thought I linked it for him so he would have seen what we said but my phone doesn't like Parkz.
