  1. Couldn't resist, had to come down for a first hand look 😁

  2. Heaps of construction must have occurred yesterday, the part that cuts under the Stengel Dive with the airtime twist now has a full left diving inclined loop or helix underneath the area of the expected non-inverting loop. Both the entry and exit of the non-inverting loop are in place. Pics from my fruit phone, taking more on my DSLR. It looks like the helix will complete two wrap-around of the N-I loop's base the first one as seen in the pic is high to low diving, the second one low to high, if that makes sense. Lots of supports being unloaded ATM, with the occasional piece of track being moved into the ride footprint. I got a few close up pics of the track pieces inside the holding yard, including piece 105. I haven't been here since before track was going in, but there seems to be quite a cracking pace here. Maybe trying to get as much done as possible before the next 2 days of predicted heavy rain.

  3. OK time out here: Thing is when you say something is practically spot on and it's not you will get called out on it. It's really good what he made, but it's not right, and doubling down on how right it is right before a massive 'it's not right' moment is a bit silly. I mean of the 4 things that have been built 2 are right, one is off the mark and one is totally wrong, another is about to be wrong. Don't take it as a personal attack when someone points that out. Finally, and this is for both of you; you're among the adults on the boards, don't make it personal and childish.

  4. Dropped past MW this morning with the DSLR for some snap. Nothing new in the way of construction photos but i thought some might like to see some of my shots anyway When going past on way home there is another piece of track added to the spaghetti bowl. Too dark to get a decent shot.

  5. If its anything like the double helix on Goliath at MM i would be more then pleased. As i can remember that thing packed a huge amount of g's for something that looked like a family ride element, and is the reason i now never underestimate a rollercoasters power 😂😂 You sure you're on the right website mate? 😂

  6. New piece just slotted in on the outside Lots of supports still to go up!

  7. Yeah it's pretty clear from the heavily twisted pieces due to be installed in this section that we're not looking at a loop like Flash. Let's kill that idea right now. The No-Limits simulation did a great job of working off the footing locations and designing a ride in the Mack style so of course it's going to get some things right but once again, let's not get carried away. It got the S-bend and twisted camel back hill completely wrong. The loop is now certainly wrong too so neither of the first two inversions were right. The helix currently under construction is way off and also makes the third corkscrew inversion implausible. That leaves the just Stengel Dive and inclined dive loop as correct thus far. Even then there's the issue of pacing; the height of the elements and the use of speed and forces plays a huge part in shaping the ride experience.

  8. Here's some of the pics from before I went in. As usual, I've downsized them somewhat to 2000pixels wide (or high if portrait). They're normally 4288x2848/300dpi. Some of the supports. They're not all the same length and thickness. Most of the supports in the above pics are for the loop. Hey, part of the track nobody's seen before! /s The twisted airtime, complete into it's next element. Note the dive out of it doesn't go all the way to the ground, but when the track comes back to this area it's very low to the ground. See below. The reason the turnaround isn't finished? Parts 70 and 72 haven't arrived yet. A track to the left of me, track to the right. Here I am, looking at piece 98 in the helix. Yeah, I can't sing. The supports for section/track piece 32. Surely this is for an airtime hill? Most supports so far relating to the lift hill go as far as 15. This gives me the opinion that there's only one airtime hill from the drop. From my phone pic earlier in the day, look at the supports leading into the 'loop'. Is the airtime curved like the Stengel Dive? ...for the jigsaw players. Last pic from the series before I went in. There's a curved catwalk, but it's NOT the piece out the front with the stairs. There's also some straight track behind that.

  9. As @Theme Park Girlposted above, they were beginning to add the outside of the second helix. Since her visit a few hours ago, there's now 4 pieces of track there, and you can easily see how it'll join back onto the rest of the helix with 3 more pieces of track. I am sure they won't connect these pieces until the N-i loop is finished. There is kind of an 'X' crossover the double helix will make inside the N-i loop, despite it not being a figure 8. It's because of the helix climbing and diving as it goes. The cranes are done for the day, so unless they're going to work tomorrow during the rain I'd say this is how it'll stand until Monday. DSLR pics later on, hopefully more for the piece stitchers @docoaster and @rummy...

  10. I have absolutely no idea why Theme Park Girl, whose contributions I and I'm sure many others value greatly, has been attacked in this thread, including seemingly by members of the Parkz crew. It's just bizarre. Please don't stop contributing TPG! I also find it strange that there is an attempt to bring down and fault the user that created that great mock-up video of the coaster. It certainly gave a sense of the scale, regardless of whether individual elements were 100% correct. Are people envious about this or something? Thanks to everyone who is updating the thread regularly with pics. It's nice that barely a day goes by without new photos. This is going to be one well covered coaster, as it should be! Movie World might not be interested in marketing it, but it's certainly getting plenty of attention on Parkz.

  11. Based off that logic, they're re-doing the batman shop too, so it could be themed to him. What if everyone is wrong and it's themed to Ben and Jerry's? I mean that track colour just screams "ice cream", right?

  12. I don't think it will be taller because flashes loop is directly after the first drop when the coaster is traveling at its maximum speed, whereas i think MWs coaster will have an element like a airtime hill inbetween the drop and the current loop slowing the coasters speed and its ability to go around a loop of flashs size.

  13. @pushbuttonyou are stretching the how good some of these attractions were. When MW opened in 1991 it had Star Parade, Boot Hill Graveyard, Looney Tunes River Ride, Movie Magic Special Effects Show, Police Academy Stunt Show, The Great Gremlins Adventure, Western Action Show & Young Einstein Gravity House. Now we have Arkham Asylum, Batwing Spaceshot, Green Lantern, Doomsday Destoyer, HSD2(shit), Justice League: Alien Invasion, Movie World Junior Driving School, Road Runner Rollercoaster, Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster, Superman Escape and Wild West falls. (SOON TO BE HYPER COASTER) We also now get night events. How do you get MW was "FANTASTIC' and now it's very good? The walk-through Young Einstein you would only ever do once. (It was a small box) Back in 1991 most people were lucky to go to 1 theme park once a year so your memory would fade if an attraction was not that good. In 2017 with all the seasons passes, attractions need to re-doable. I would put money on it, even you would struggle to redo Young Einstein attraction every time you visited.

  15. I'd have much rathered Dreamworld summarize for each of the big nine what the audits revealed, and what was done. For now all I know is they were closed a long time (in many cases), and work was required (in some cases). If it was safe in the first place tell me nothing needed doing (it's a good news story), if it needed a few minor things then tell me that too (I can take comfort in hearing that the stuff you were fixing is thin end of the wedge) - just don't leave me to guess what was wrong that needed it closed all that time.

  17. These pics are from later in the day, after TPG uploaded her pics. Careful fullsizing, the panoramas are big. 4000 pixels wide. Well picked, Rummy. 'Loop' is certainly left-in, right-out. This angle, and the next pic below, really helps show how the helix is "wobbling" with climbs and dives. Anyone want to Photoshop a non-inverting loop into this?

  18. @joz by all means, I'm happy to apologise and admit when I'm wrong. I've done it on here before (for a recent example, see the topic about the hole in Eureka Mountain) and I'll continue to do it in future. I also would have probably done so this time round too, had I realised I had worded my post in a way that implies I was avoiding doing anything of the sort. But that post was clearly more than just pointing out a mistake on my part. Why not simply state "I think you should admit to Richard that you were wrong and apologise" in a respectful manner and leave it at that? Why leave remarks implying that a off-forum personal grudge against me is a contributing factor as well? Why go on to lecture over alleged personal faults, and then be as petty as to mock me over what smilies I choose to use regularly in my posts? Exactly how does any of this relate to anything? Honestly, I'm questioning how can any of the above could NOT be clearly seen as a personal attack? I'm sorry but I am not going to take shit anymore, and I will defend myself when I feel the need to. @Richard of course I am sorry if I upset or offended you in any way with my post or response to it. Most people here would be well aware by now that I sometime word things backwards or in a funny way. But I never do it intentionally. That's just me. Anyway, I'm off to 'adult' at work. These posts will probably be well and truly gone by the time I log back in, so I might as well leave it there. I'm over it.

  19. That isn't "movie magic" that's "movie". Sort of like BA:TR, without the cool pre-show. Effectively, you're in a very elaborate simulator. 'Movie Magic' is - just as @wikiverse described - staff playing roles. if you REALLY want to work out what attraction on the gold coast has the best 'movie magic' it would probably be Roxy... because the story at least 'suggests' that you're entering the world of looney tunes. I'm inclined to agree with @joz's comments above - improve the entertainment - immediately, add a new family adventure ride (behind showstage has plenty of space for something 'western') and add a few behind the scenes elements - even if they were to go back to tours of movie sets - there is soon going to be a staple TV show being filmed in the studios (Humphrey) and there are plenty of films being shot in and around property these days. Universal manages to do it's backlot tours around a working film set, so MW could always fit in with that - it doesn't have to be much, just an element, a uniqueness that you don't get anywhere else. Lastly - the reason why MW used to be full day, despite having less attractions, but also with having less wait times, was that the attractions themselves took time - because Gremlins had queue, pre-show, ride, Einstein had a script, heck - even Bermuda pretended to have a preshow that absorbed crowd for several minutes - technically, you are still queueing, even though you've been absorbed into the story, but it didn't FEEL like it because it was PART of the ride\attraction itself. Having an elaborate, on theme pre-show "invents" additional capacity, without changing the ride. Take a look at the haunted mansion in Disneyland - to get you to the ACTUAL ride, they created an entire story around the stretching rooms, hallway, even the foyer. the Queue stops at the steps to the house, but it is easily between 5-10 minutes more before you ACTUALLY board the doom buggy

  20. Wow, I didn't realise the track was going to penetrate the hole. Double penetration in fact. Has that been done on many coasters before?

  22. What an insipid piece of corporate nothingness from Dreamworld. A company accountant telling us about ride safety from the least-relatable perspective possible: internal and external policy/procedure audits. It literally looks like a Powerpoint presentation and the script reads like that part of a monthly corporate meeting where you quietly check Facebook under the table.

  24. When the pink banner first appeared on the temporary fencing a lot of people on this forum said Wonder Woman, then when the pink track arrived most people seemed to go off on a different tangent. My first thought was Wonder Woman, and still think it will be, or JL Unite 😂

  25. That merchandise is almost certainly what that notice I referred to a couple of weeks ago was about. The notice I saw was in that shop, right where the new Wonder Woman merchandise is now displayed, and it said something along the lines of "not for release until 1st May 2017", and the merchandise shown in the above photo appeared very shortly after 1st May. As the notice was in the shop I naturally thought it was about merchandise, and it had a clear picture of Wonder Woman on it so I knew it was about Wonder Woman merchandise. I googled "Wonder Woman movie" and found this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_Woman_(2017_film) The article says the movie has links to both Warner Brothers, and DC. That is why I said I predicted the Hyper-coaster will be Wonder Woman themed. I still think that's a strong possibility, but I thought they might announce the ride on or soon after 1st May. Like most here, I don't understand why they still haven't. Looks like the movie itself will be released 2nd June, so if it is indeed Wonder Woman themed, perhaps that's when the ride will be announced.

  26. @AlexB I think you need a combination of both - especially with open-air coasters. Use the technology to build a story/drama/suspense before getting on the ride, and use the staff to play a role (and help the riders play a role) in that story. It's almost impossible to bring back 'movie magic' with the DC stuff - since the rides themselves are themed to the comic characters, not the movies. So a happy medium is to treat the ride like it is a movie - complete with VR and narrative built into the queuing as you described. They could even make the ride queues a little more 'movie' related by using key vehicles or props from the films. Maybe they're not doing it because of language barriers, but using wristbands where you can program themed elements to respond in someone's native language when they activate something is a good way around that problem.

  27. I'd say no, it Just by looking at where the track and supports are, it doesn't seem like it will be as big as the flash's, but it will still be a very large loop.

  29. And remember the IP's were locked in last year. As with the Conjuring, the Head of Entertainement had to actually go sit and watch the movie, take notes and make little drawings as research beforehand. Seeing the movie helps to have a better understanding of the story and of how they can pull it off. I don't think they have had a maze based on a movie without the movie having already been released.

  30. Ah, that was what I was mainly referring to... the major track features and their general positioning of them thus far. I totally understand some of them aren't going to be exactly to length/scale. I can only assume one would probably need to see a copy of the rides' schematic to work all that stuff out... or be pretty damn good at mathematics haha (maybe just talking from personal experience here, I'd never be able to work any of that out to begin with 😮) Regardless I think its safe to say that he's first in line with his predication atm for that Parkz shirt, yeah? 😁

  31. It doesn't always have to cost as much as building new rides though. The wrist-band concept they put in the Doomsday area could be expanded throughout the park. Earn points on the 'Hero' rides, and spend them on the 'villain' rides - or vice versa depending on what character you want to play. Collect videos of your interaction to share on social media - which basically creates free advertising for the experience. Even something simple like adding VR to GL - the number of points you have could result in multiple endings of a 3D animated character experience. It is much easier and cheaper to a new VR animation every couple of years than to build an entirely new ride - you could even animate them in batches with interactive elements in the queue area - so the ride is literally like a new GL comic book every visit to the park. The wrist-bands could even let you put it into different languages. These are just a couple ideas off the top of my head. I'm sure MW could come up with much cooler stuff. There is a lot of potential in this technology. But even without digital interaction, A lot of the audience participation stuff really just comes down to planning your queuing areas to visually and aurally separate people from what is coming up, and then adjusting the script that the staff use when they welcome people onto the ride. Dreamworld even do it with Kevil Hill. Little changes like that can completely change a ride experience, and can be updated over-time so the experience doesn't get too stale for local pass-holders. The 'magic' part comes from attention to detail which can be designed into the ride experience, through scripting and staff performances or through technology. Rides shouldn't remain the same forever and focusing on those details would be a great cost-effective way to improve the park. Hopefully MW does a lot more of that over the coming years since they've basically done a major capital investment with the new coaster.

  32. I don't think you will find a person on here that doesn't want the "movie magic" theme attached to every ride. The problem is the "movie magic" theme comes at a price. The same person calling for the old "movie magic" theme also only wants to charge people $35.00 to enter the park. The question is if you want the best rides in the world and you want to attach the “movie magic” theme to them how much are you willing to pay for it?

  33. Really looking forward to the headchoppers that mess of track will create

  34. I think the thing everyone is tapping into isn't nostalgia - it's the 'movie magic' theme that used to be a part of every ride at Movieworld. Every ride (Batman, Gremlins, Police Academy, Lethal Weapon) had a clear story element to it, or at least a connection back to the movie. It wasn't a loose 'if you pay attention you'll get it' thing like with Arkham Asylum, they genuinely made an effort to make each ride a journey from start-to-finish. The rides were immersive and had unexpected elements that would surprise you along the way - like the usher running into a theatre screaming on the gremlins ride. The staff played roles. They were an integral part of that story and experience. Whereas now, the only thing you're likely to hear from a staff member is 'make sure you have everything out of your pockets'. The guests at the park were mostly treated as active participants in the story of the ride - not just passive observers/riders. It is much cheaper for MW to license the DC cinematic universe than individual films and the characters will last much longer without dating, but hopefully they can expand their digital interactive offerings in the future to bring back some of that participation in a way that doesn't require lots of expensive performance staff. Movieworld is still a great theme park and they have a lot of opportunities to introduce a new kind of 'magic' in the future.

  35. Can I have a copy of your video because I don't see it? My video shows he could follow the path of the coaster but for what happens to the track, nothing matches.

  36. I remember it well. It was basically a guided tour through an old historic wooden house aka Albert Einstein's house from the movie, which was deliberately built on heavy angles as to make guests believe they were seeing the host and props doing weird gravity defying stunts (a rolling pin being rolled down a table, only to roll back up again is the one i most fondly recall) when really it was all just visual mind tricks. Even better, here's an old video 😁👍 https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1638481583125415&id=1636258723347701

  37. I wouldn't call HSD "very good" at any time in it's life. The original was at least decently put together, but lacked the crowd involvement elements. It at least had a big 'wow' factor finale, unlike the current iteration... but it was still paled by comparison to PASS. I for one would like to see them bring back a western themed stunt show - but alas, professional stuntment are far more expensive than a panelbeater.

  38. While I do confess a great deal of nostalgia for 'old Movie World', specifically Police Academy and Looney Tunes River Ride, these were rides with finite lifespans. Gremlins was an aged product of its time, likewise Police Academy and the first Batman simulator, 2017 would not be kind to these rides because they would seem quaint at best and antiquated for sure by modern standards. Say what you will about the modern replacements, but they fit the bill for this current time. (The only sore point for me personally is Hollywood Stunt Driver 2 which feels wholly a poor imitation, they could have kept the show relevant but similar to Police Academy by theming it to something hip and current but still funny like the 21 Jump Street remakes). To the point though, Movie World while victim perhaps to trying to pander to what's 'cool' in the moment (chasing money in Matrix, Pokemon, Harry Potter and now DC Comics) it was a great park and still is a great park, just different. I can set aside my nostalgia for 'Rodney from Tasmania' and journeying to the center of the earth if it means the future is hypercoasters and likewise.

  40. Now we've got a thread right up my alley. For those that have been here a while may remember i used to be a Zookeeper, so I've tried to dig up some of the old information goldmines we had to use in TAFE. For the useful links that are still live (links die quickly in this field) I've posted the useful ones to this subject below. http://www.australasianzookeeping.org/Husbandry Manuals.htm While not the best looking site (it used to be white and cleaner), this website is the Holy Grail of facts. while there's nothing pertaining to Dolphins (dead links) left, i posted the menu so everybody can do some digging themselves for any animal they want to look into. http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/#/view/act/1986/123 Holy Grail #2. If i had remembered how to properly use the act, i'd know how to get the right info from S14. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/animals-and-livestock/animal-welfare/exhibit/national-standards-and-guidelines-for-exhibited-animals/standards-and-guidelines This is something new and cool that wasn't live when i was studying. http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/#/view/regulation/2010/444/full Also Grail, But still cant read. For anyone looking into Zoos and Aquariums, the ASZK, DPI and EAPA together form the Holy Trinity of information. I believe off the top of my head, the DPI have somewhere (i think its in the act) minimum space requirements for Every.Single.Animal allowed in the country. Every zoo goer should be thankful for the work David Fleay (silent E) put into his work in the 50s and 60s. He singlehandidly changed zoos forever (and got fired for it).

  41. Which is perfect, because their last accident had nothing to do with human error caused by park staff.

  42. Who are these people that care about the safety process yet somehow missed the months of news coverage and Ardent's own announcements that went into detail about every single thing that was said in that video? This 'update' is a rehash of information that has been widely publicised for about six months. The information itself is inoffensive enough, but the perplexing thing though is that they made no efforts to script or present it as something that's vaguely shareable and social media friendly but rather something out of a new employee orientation seminar. The actual interesting thing to find out would be what has changed internally or with the park's overall culture towards maintenance and operations as a result of these unprecedented audits, but I don't think that would make for a feelgood corporate video. Points go to Alton Towers for managing to blame ride stoppages on guests' behaviour and weather.

  43. If Batman appeared in and narrated the videos, everyone would pay attention... no one delivers a message better than batman..

  44. Look, i've been quite critical of the Movie World videos, but primarily it was the story they tried to tell (in the first one) and the really bad narration in the ones that followed. But the imagery shown - showing the checks, discussing the sensors etc were far more detailed than both the Alton and DW ones. Basically to sum them up: MovieWorld: "to the -enth degree, we'll show you what's involved, for your safety Alton: "we won't put people in danger. Here's some pictures of our rides not broken down" DreamWorld: "we've been rectally examined by four different organisations. Trust us - it's safe." I'll be honest and say I prefer MW's message - i'd just prefer their delivery was better.

  45. So we can buy tickets to an attraction that is still in the planning stage, but don't even know the name of a partially constructed Coaster... seems MW need to employ the snow parks marketing team

  46. Thought that was a really good video, and that facts really prove how come ride stoppages are, and really shows that it's just the media who make it seem like they happen more, thankfully they haven't reported on any recently
    1 point
  47. I think it's good that they're speaking up about this, how else is the general public meant to know that the media is essentially only reporting these things for click bait and to make people paranoid that an accident may happen if they go on a ride. Not only that some of the information from the media is borderline false, I remember one article about the recent Arkham Asylum stoppage stated that the ride had stopped mid-ride. The photo in the article even showed the ride had actually stopped at the top of the lift hill. Now you could possibly say that time wise, the top of the lift hill is close to mid ride, although it's definitely not length wise, and you could argue the ride has barely even started when you are on the lift hill. The media just need to stop being jerks.
