  1. Actually, if you look at the the track profile, most of the sharp turns are placed at the high points in the ride (so far), so the coaster will actually lose a lot of speed at the top of the loop, at the top of the Stengel Dive, and just before the turnaround which will reduce the lateral G forces on those twists to what you would experience on Jet Rescue at Sea World. So far, the High-Speed turns (like the S-Bend) are profiled to have heart-line offset banking. So, the G-forces look more forceful than your experience of them, because the coaster 'turns' on the z-axis at your chest height, not at the track height. The forces are more like Slalom Skiing than a chair tipping over. (That's probably a crap analogy, but it's the best I can think of). It also is hugging the ground a lot, so it will feel faster than it is. Force wise (based only on the build so far), I believe if Superman Escape and Jet Rescue had a baby, this coaster would be it.

  2. I didn't mind Gremlins, and I hold fond memories of it. It wasn't the most thrilling ride by far, but it was worth it for the awesome theming and experience. I guess the closest comparison I can make of it l to today's rides is Justice League without the game (laser gun & 3D) component and more active animatronics as a whole. I also enjoyed the aspect of it being tied in with 'real life' as well, with the attraction presenters acting out that it was a real invasion. That said, I don't know if it would work today. It was impressive in its time, but would need a lot of work and a major upgrade of modern technology to wow today's generation I think. In my opinion, Scooby isn't worth that sacrifice. But if they ever decided (extremely unlikely, I know) to bring it back as a new & updated attraction as opposed to a replacement one, I'd totally be up for it πŸ‘

  6. ^You guys can't be serious can you? I mean c'mon everyones been praying for a ride like this for the past 10 years now, and when we finally get it people are complaining that it looks to intense and doesn't look fun. Im honestly not sure if you're taking the piss @Glubbo by saying you need to get conditioned to ride it more then once because that made me LOL. As far as my thoughts for the ride are I'm fucking pumped and keen to ride this beast!!! Btw I've already booked a plane ticket to fly up in october to ride it Also if you guy's can't handle this ride then don't bother going to any six flags or cedar fair parks just saying :/ Also no hard feelings Im praying

  8. Translinks statement was a roundabout way of saying the 709 is undeeded now (The route that solely exists to shuttle between Helensvale and GCHU) I think the changes are a net positive, just because the wait times between services would be less, and it's better for tourists since they don't really have to check a timetable whilst in holiday mode. If a full time gate was built where Blue Lagoon is that's a 1.3km walk from the station, which is probably fine for most people, (You do a similar walk from the station to Chessington work of Adventures) but possibily unpalatable for families with small kids, or staff members leaving after dark. In any case, a route via DWs front door would probably always exist in some form, because the Old Pacific Highway corridor needs a bus anyway, and such a route is logically always going to run from Coomera to Helensvale. PS, that coomera highrise is laughable...There are only two reasons to live in a highrise....to be near to the heart of the action, and if there is a nice view. That site has neither.

  9. Anyone else think this has a bit of a Sunway/Wonderland feel to it? While I firmly believe VRTP are genuinely committed to the Gold Coast and passionate about theme parks and tourism (well, duh!), it is pretty obvious Ardent Leisure will do whatever it takes to make the quickest buck for the smallest outlay, regardless of assurances. It might all depend on land values and rezoning opportunities (or obstacles) in the end.

  10. Ooo I see some fresh dirt piles there! A bit trivial, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of landscaping they do once the ride is complete. A bit of vegetation could make that strip of land quite attractive.

  11. Just discovered the performance platform at the front of Main Street in Movie World has been fenced off. Might be nothing major but interesting still. Also following the external refurbishment of the Warner Bros. Department Store, various other buildings along Main Street are getting facade refurbishments. No major changes that I've seen yet. Just refresh and maintenance.

  12. I blacked out on Deja Vu at SFMM, just before the first drop. It was a combination of dehydration (we stood in the sun for about an hour without anything to drink before riding) and, according to doctors, massive stress I had placed on my body riding hundreds of rollercoasters and rides in the preceding 6 weeks (About 112 different rollercoasters at about 10 different parks across the USA). All I remember is when we returned to the station and I woke up all I wanted to do was ride it again because I didn't remember the ride.

  13. sadly the information on who owns Area 51 and what it's used for is classified information! πŸ˜‚

  14. Areas marked DW is also owned by DW. When DW sold Area 51 the original contract of sale included Area 52. Once DW tried to separate the land from the current Title the Queensland Government requested DW hand the land either side of the creek over to them. DW ended up only selling Area 51 to the developer taking the creek out of the transaction. (Area 52 marked in yellow) The area the Government wanted to resume is roughly marked in green. If DW was to try and add this land to a separate Title again, I can’t see why the Government wouldn’t ask for the land again. (That’s one of the things I would assume the Town Planner would be considering). Where I have written, GUM is the area DW currently grow the Gum Trees to feed the koalas.

  15. I've never greyed out on a ride. Some make me queasy, such as Claw, Pandamonium (hard), but I'm right a few minutes later. Ryande16, I certainly want to sit in the front seat of this hyper for a half dozen rides in a row, but my stomach wouldn't. I've re-ridden a few times, and loved it (Incredible Hulk, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril), but needed a half hour before I rode the next ride. I've never ridden a hyper, and am looking forward to the negative and lateral G's it'll bring. I've only been sick from a ride once - as a 10 year old from the Zipper. That was after having a dagwood dog right before! For me part of the fun is going on a ride that'll give you thrills while on it, and have to recover after riding it. @Gazza for me, no issues with twistyness on coasters such as Jet Rescue.

  18. If that is the case then I wonder why DW have been advertising for a project manager. In March I came across this one " Based on site at Dreamworld, we have a rare opportunity to join the ... Preparation of tender/ contract documentation " Only a few weeks ago I came across this one.

  19. Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yeeeeeeesssssss. Ardent are not in the theme park business. They own a theme park, but it isn't their core platform for profit. From the article: "There were no plans to close the park or redevelop it into residential buildings, she said." They just have a Town Planner doing a feasibility study and making a plan for what such plans might look like, if they were to plan the thing they're currently not planning to do. Looks like they're not in a hurry to redevelop Goldrush or anything north of it. Me being a bitch about it aside, I wouldn't be surprised if they concluded that there was value in building a multi-level shopping mall/hotel in the carpark and calling it 'Dreamworld Plaza' or something, and then having the Theme Park be the anchor of it. Kind of like how Lotte World has Lotte World Mall, Avenue L, and the 123 floor Lotte Tower (offices and hotel) in Seoul. I hope they don't reduce the footprint of the park itself though. Land-locking Dreamworld from any future expansion would be a mistake.

  20. I hope not. That's the part where it is reasonably common to grey out, as discussed earlier. I'm assuming most coaster manufacturers have learned from that mistake, and particularly a top quaility firm such as Mack.

  24. For me, SDSC is different every time in regards to smoothness, brake toughness and speed. Sometimes all the brakes are real tough and jarring all the way through. While other times, those last couple of drops are real quick and when you hit the brakes, damn it hurts. And then other times, it can be perfect all the way through and a real comfortable ride.

  26. Going back to the beginning of this thread, personally I would be devastated if the maintenance time resulted in the ride not being Scooby-Doo themed. The ride has become such an icon and is one of the best themed rides in Australia, its already made a name for itself as the Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster, why would MW give it a new name and theme? I was also a massive Scooby Doo fan when I was younger, and I'm sure many others where as well, it would just be plain sad if it wasn't Scooby. It's also themed to a movie that was made right next door to MW, and that in itself is special. Hopefully its just a revamp with some added special effects...

  27. To be completely honest, and I'm really not bothered whether people agree with me or not; but I feel this ride is going to be a little too forceful and extreme for me. The constant turning screams "grey out" πŸ˜‚ I really really enjoy rides with loads of airtime moments, twist and turns but this looks 10x more than what I consider fun, at this point I'd prefer flashs layout which is the perfect hypercoaster imo. This ride still has potential to win me over if they finally start adding more direct ejector moments rather than the state it's currently in (a spaghetti mess) but that's been looking slim. - for those will likely downvote me, not everyone has to love this ride 100% - I'll still ride it of course but I agree with the above ^^ I'll probably give riding this 20 times in a row a miss.. 😬

  29. OFF TOPIC: No I don't mate. Because everything you comment on you do so with out any semblance of perspective or practicality. ON TOPIC: Given the only parts there are to wear on the cars in Scooby are all replaced regularly I don't think its that. Most of the Jarring I feel comes from the braking not the drops. The hidden drop would be so much better with eddy current braking and a nice smooth stop. I also miss it being completely hidden by the original green laser.

  30. The bands just need more interaction throughout the park. Why not let me use them to collect points from shooting Aliens on the JL ride (or for riding any of the superhero rides), and then spend them in the Villains unleashed area... or vice versa. They could also do a Scooby-Doo mystery with clues or interactive puzzles around the park to solve. The interactive stuff can be a lot of fun and it definitely separates MW from most other parks. There is definitely a lot of potential to expand the wrist-band concept throughout the park in a much more clever way that adds to the overall experience of existing rides.

  31. Yeah, makes it sound like the town planner comes back and says "hey if you close the park and sell it to a developer and you can pay off all your debts and open up another 50 Main Event centre in the US" then they'll consider it. Im hoping it means clearing the land around the studios and developing it into an entertainment precinct as was the original plan, put an AMF/M9, some restaurants and maybe a hotel between the park and Foxwell
