  1. Notice the sign referring to 'Planet Square'? Does this mean the area of the rollercoaster's outdoor portion is now called 'Planet Square'? I do agree the exit looks like a "waste of space" but like @AlexB said credit to them for at least theming the exit. They just need to justify the lack of earthquake damage but like @themagician suggested, that is an easy solution to make. Maybe to liven up the exit and reinforce the theme in the exit just a little bit more they could add TV screens showing a loop of TV coverage of Superman's rescue of the MRT train, timed so the critical part is shown when guests hop off the ride?: As the train leaves the station, the TV is covered with static. This lasts 60 seconds, at which point the train should launch. The static is then replaced with a 'breaking news' bulletin. It shows the hosts explaining the situation to the audience whilst showing 'live' footage of damage from the earthquake such as a burst water main near the entry of a subway and a collapsed road with 2 police cars in it (referring to events seen on the ride's indoor portion). This lasts 30 seconds. The news bulletin concludes with 'live' footage of Superman bringing an MRT train into another (presumably safe) MRT station. This last 20 seconds and imitates the rollercoaster's brake run and exit station arrival. Superman then does a quick interview for the TV channel before flying away. The TV channel also quickly interviews a passenger of the MRT train. This is all shown as guests leave the ride. The hosts then return the channel back to 'live' coverage of a baseball game held in another far-away city. The baseball game footage lasts however long it needs to. The TV loop then restarts when the ride leaves the main station causing a reference to the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.

  2. Reads, we're broke, and we are hoping you don't notice we went with the cheap and nasty options. Village are like a monkey who won’t let go of the banana to get it’s hand out. Over an over and over I say, thousands and thousands of people on the coast at Christmas willing and wanting to spend money and MW shuts the gate at six.

  3. With IAAPA 2018 currently underway, I want to know your thoughts on the newest attractions & what are your favourites. My favourite that has been announced so far has to be Dynamic Attraction’s ‘Duel Power Coaster’. To me this looks like Radiator Springs Racers, crossed with Indiana Jones... on steroids! If themed well, it seems like it would be an amazing experience. https://youtu.be/KeRhHO_9I-A

  4. Superman Exit refurb is now finished. I do like what they have done theming wise to make it feel like the MRT ticket booth/station, but also feels like a waste of space. There is quite an echo in the room too, and the floor is very bouncy

  6. Am I the only one noticing that Village seems to have forgotten they have another park at the Oxenford precinct? Constrictor - installed 2012, and WetNWild Junior - installed 2014 were their last major investments in WNW GC. Meanwhile they continue to silently erase rides from people's memories or keep them closed, without replacement.

  7. Well Superman does save you, so he must have taken us to another station which wasn't affected by the earthquake

  8. This is probably the testimony I've been most interested in reading about, and all I can say is wow. Now we see the real cause of the issue, not $25 an hour ride ops not pressing a button, what he have here is a fundamental failure of a person overseeing the park's rides. The head of engineering doesn't know how the rides work but is in the position to make judgment calls about them? If he doesn't know how the rides work then why on Earth would anyone have told him that there's a problem? Not like he can do anything with that info. He'd been at the park for 4 years, the fact he didn't know how to run the rides is either a lie to cover up the fact he knew it was fucked, or he is terrible at his job. What amazes me the most is he's still there. He's still not a qualified engineer. He still hasn't taken any steps to mitigate the fact he's not a qualified engineer. He seems like he thinks not knowing how to operate the rides is OK. Elsewhere in his testimony he says he wasn't sure who had the job of making sure the rides are safe. I'll give you a clue, Head of Engineering; its you. It's your department, you set the agenda. Your agenda didn't see you making the effort to get to know the rides you were managing. Had you have taken the smallest bit of interest you would have known the ride's control system was a mess. I have zero confidence in the safety of any rides he's in charge of, and to be honest I wouldn't trust him to change a tire on my car. He doesn't need to go because of PR, he needs to go because he's a danger to the community in his current role. I know on this forum we can get hung up on trivial stuff like 'the wall is ugly now the tree has been cut down' or 'drinks should be in meal deals' so important points can get lost. But here's the thing, this person was allowed to continue to be in a position of authority while having no idea about his area of responsibility and feeling no need the change that. Other staff have had problems with the computer systems and encountered 'push back' from Ardent about safety issues, but they were all people who legitimately tried to make it better before something happened. Right here is someone who straight up was the problem, and continues to be the problem. A bubble of pure incompetence at the top of the engineering food chain. I don't care who you are, you cannot fail that badly at a job and be given a second go at it.

  9. They have either cleaned very well or replaced the concrete where the tree was. You can still see the hole for where the garden bed was, so maybe a new tree will be planted (hopefully) New queue rails have been installed too And work on the AA facade on the back of SDSC is still going

  13. @GoGoBoy TPR use to do full interviews but they have stopped that in recent years, unfortunately. The best coverage I find is In The Loop in YouTube, their videos come out a little later than other channels but the interviews are really enjoyable!

  16. What they should do is follow this theming style into the queue area, and install a glass wall and doors at the entrance, and then install aircon. Happy days.

  17. I think it could have been good to during these renovations add a couple more Fast Photo screens, because often that corner can turn into a bit of a mosh pit. Other than that though, I think it looks pretty good.

  18. Something appears to have changed inside, as there was double doors in facade of the SDSC wall. In your earlier photo of the same area, there is now a single door. There also appears to be works in the old alley section from this photo (possibly more back of house storage?)

  19. This "top engineer" guy is also not actually a qualified engineer.

  20. Had a walk through LPS for the first time in years last weekend. The place has hardly changed from my memory of it as a 12 year old. I thought it had a good amount of life to it, they had performers down the main street and music playing which gave the place an uplifting feel. There seemed to be a decent amount of guests in the park as well, mostly families with young kids. I think the Maurer spinner would be a fitting addition to the park, and a potential compact Eurofighter out the back end would probably seal the park's prosperity for quite some time. I've got a positive feeling about the future for LPS.

  21. Judging by the way the camera drops through the track (and the steel looks a little undersized for roller coaster track), I'd say that ad is an "artists impression".

  23. Mr Hutchins was of the understanding that JAK undertook structural inspections while DRI, another company would handle the systems inspections. Mr Hutchins recommended In early 2016 that JAK be removed from completing audits as they have “proven unwilling to audit to Australian standards”. Mr Hutchins recommended a new auditor review the the park every 2 years and each intervening year to be inspected by a local third party company. The company slated to replace JAK was LTC, a United Kingdom based company. By late 2016 when LTC was approached, that issue had “fallen off the radar” because the priority was on re-registering the ride as “theoretically if the ride isn’t compliant, WHS would have shut the ride to the public. “Theoretically” as this was the actual situation for the 9 months prior to the 2016 incident. Representatives from all QLD theme parks will regularly gather to discuss any incidents or major updates that could be relevant to all parties. A meeting was held to discuss the outcome of the rocky hollow log ride incident as SeaWorld also had a flume ride and knowledge will be shared across parks when it comes to safety incidents. Mr Hutchins had never enquired as far back as the 80’s about manuals or documents relating to the TRRR as Mr Hutchins was never aware of any incidents so as far as he was concerned, the ride was safe. Mr Hutchins agreed that no realistic emergency drills were ever conducted for TRR. When asked how he feels the problem could be prevented from ever occurring again, Mr Hutchins replied: “In terms of what happened on the day I feel that some kind of engineering control was needed to prevent the conveyor from operating when a raft was in the unload station. The roles and responsibilities for particular tasks was not defined and neither was the reporting of risks. The document control systems were inadequate, funding was inadequate. In order to prevent that from re-occurring, the safety department instead of reviewing policies, need to be I between the park and the CEO, having the power of accepting or declining policies that relate to safety.”

  24. Next level ride idea - that likely only Disney could pull off. Mine cart/wild mouse style ride, crossed with a Midway Mania style interactive shooter that has altered sequences and ride courses based on outcomes. Ie. Using SDSC as a base layout for illustration purposes. Cart would go through the initial section with a few stops for theme relevant interactive shooting elements. Based on the score received to this point determines which level you move up to in the elevator - there would be 2 completely different track courses and experiences based on your score to that point, You could even have a third level and track which requires a “perfect” score to reach. Almost like a “choose your own adventure” ride. Ultimate in interactivity, would encourage repeat riding like no other ride has in the past.

  25. The Sidewinder has now also been removed from the WnW attraction listing and is no longer on the maintenance listing either. Looks like the entire Mach 5 tower is no more.
