  3. I found this to be a very informative video of the new RMC Raptor coasters. It delves deep into how RMC have designed/engineered the Raptor track, layout and trains in order to deliver a major thrill coaster at a fraction of the cost of a regular tubular steel thrill coaster - which is the ultimate purpose of the RMC Raptor product. What was particularly interesting, is the reported cost of the coaster from the video creator. Probably should be taken with a grain of salt, but if that's true it would be the perfect coaster for up and coming aussie parks (e.g. Funfields).

  4. The ride on the maintenance page takes you to this link https://www.dreamworld.com.au/rides/family-rides/sky-voyager-OPEN Appears there got two links as this is the default one they have always been using https://www.dreamworld.com.au/rides/family-rides/sky-voyager I’m going to say they would most likely start ‘technical rehearsals’ today and give it to probably an early January offical date (The only thing I could tell you that looks like needs work would be the retail store they got planned at the exit of the ride with stock awaiting to go in but I don’t think they are going to hold it back anymore just for that reason now) I’ll try to get back down there today for 10am and report what’s going on but please not I won’t be there for the whole day today as I got other plans happening

  5. Warner Bros. Classics & The Great Gremlins Adventure closed in mid-2001 & Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster opened on June 17 2002. So Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster's installation took no longer than about a year. This photo shows that theming and track installation were happening roughly around the same time however it's fair to say the track was installed before theming was added. This photo shows track installation took no longer than 4 months (February to June 2002) while this photo and this photo show the 'Spooky Castle' exterior theming alone took no more than a month and a half (Early April to late May 2002). All this should give an idea of how long it took to create/install the overall theming, though the duration depends on how many people were helping install the ride. General Comment Whilst I understand people's disappointment due to their exaggerated marketing, I'm amazed that so many theme park enthusiasts thought the ride would be completely new from start to finish when firstly, the exterior 'Spooky Castle' theming remained (that should imply the queue would be similar & the ghost train section would be fairly similar. After all, it is based on the movie - there were some parts of the ghost train they could add (such 'The Dinner Show') but most of the ghost train section from the movie was already there so there would be minimum change) and secondly, the trains were the same (they were in the new TV commercials too), which meant the ghost train section would be there, which I just detailed. Otherwise, why have 'Spooky Castle' and the same trains if they weren't going to travel through the ghost train section of the original ride? They were never going to stray from the movie's 'Spooky Castle' plot device (not to mention a fully-projection mapped ride would look unconvincing after a while) and I tried warning fellow forum members of this 2 years ago: It would be very difficult to do a Scooby Doo re-theme - it has to be based around Spooky Castle as that is the entrance to the ride and the carriages are the same as Spooky Castle's carriages. Unless MW changes the carriages (or re-themes them - I don't know how easy that is), it has to be themed to Spooky Castle. So naturally, it would be the mostly-the-same 'ghost train' section with a few technical changes - mostly the touted projection mapping, which so far it is not and if it is, not applied well. Those technical changes though I'm waiting until they finish 'technical rehearsals' before making a final opinion on them. But one change that can be deemed 'finished' (in a way) is a change in narrative. The original ride's narrative was just trying to escape monsters inside the 'Spooky Castle' ghost train. You then try to find a scared Scooby-Doo who has escaped up into a disco up on ground level in the 'Spooky Island' theme park. After you escaped the 'ghost train' though and found Scooby-Doo, you 'fall' back into the 'Spooky Castle' ghost train but quickly find a safe way out to go back into the 'Spooky Island' theme park. My theory (due to technical rehearsals still ongoing) on the narrative of the new edition is below:

  7. Been told by a ride operator that the ride isn’t finished, and they were quite far behind on the schedule. They’ve reopened because of the Christmas period, but it will close again next year for maintenance to finish it off

  8. The actual Wiggles go to Dreamworld twice a year for the concerts. The wiggles based characters are no different to seeing batman or spongebob at a VTP park

  9. Nothing was removed aside from the posts by yourself and a few others that were filled with personal insults. The discussion about this has been relocated to our Site Issues forum for it to be discussed properly in the correct section: https://www.parkz.com.au/forums/topic/8448-community-standards/

  10. It's not plain concrete, it's just a light sand coloured finish. Similar to the lazy river at Gumbuya https://www.parkz.com.au/photo/16183-Lazy_River/gallery/sort/newest/location/ride-3987-Lazy_River/offset/8

  12. So I have just received some clarification on the opening for the ride So as I’m aware unfortunately, Sky Voyager is not ready for Boxing Day It was their original target date to open by but that’s clearly not the case Staff (Ride ops) aren’t even fully aware when the ride is due to open yet

  13. Another word in Dreamworlds favour. Whilst Movie World has frequent appearances by DC Comics and Warner Bros characters, and that's brilliant, none of them are the original actors. They are all just park employees in costumes. Dreamworld on the other hand has frequent appearances by the actual REAL Wiggles! These are kids characters, so I'm not their biggest fan, but they are genuinely famous! I have friends in the UK whose kids watch The Wiggles on TV and love them! Not saying anything bad about Movie World. Just think Dreamworld deserves a bit more support on here!

  14. Pretty sure it won't be open today, but it's certainly looking good!

  15. Possibly a case of "open attraction, or keep it closed until its 100% and lose business". I'd pick "open attraction" Movie World went with open attraction remember.

  16. Wow! I had no idea about most of that storyline! One thing that could help is if the video shown on the screens in the queue explained the parts of the story in the movie that relate to the above new parts in the ride!

  17. I expected the ride to be what it is now storyline wise. They said it was taking more aspects from the movie, so I expected more demons. Just from what I’ve seen online, the execution was poor. I think what they’ve done are great additions, just needed to be done to a better standard.

  18. Seems really strange to me that the sides are just plain concrete. And agree they need way more palms running along the sides. Maybe they are still to come? The concept art looked great.

  19. Hello folks It’s been a while Decided to back on here just in time for the launch of Sky Voyager opening within the next few weeks Today was the first day I have fully seen the facade complete and I must say it looks a lot more better than I was expecting it to be and the photos don’t do justice of how big it is I managed to grab a few pictures of the facade and workers making the finalising touches (Please excuse the fact that my contribution may be very similar what however users have posted recently but I have tried to go at least some different perspective shots of the building) I have very good faith that the park might be able to get this open for Wednesday and I’ll be down at the park no matter what

  20. Ok now there's a bit! Group of construction workers standing outside main entrance to SkyVoyager taking photos, and just did some sort of short ceremony involving a small smoke machine of some sort. I suppose their cultural way of "blessing" the ride / building maybe?

  21. That has been the problem at VRTP historically in that everyone worked in silos. They’ll say have a team of experts at Outback, yet at MW there will be a different group people ‘trying to figure something out’. Or they will use two totally different suppliers from the same industry at different properties. Hopefully those days are behind us.

  22. The temporary construction fencing is now coming down, replaced by even more short-term low barriers. Windows being cleaned too. This all gives me more reason to think they are still aiming to open Boxing Day!

  23. Was in the park and snapped these on the way out. Still think the original facades looked a million times better, but it's not the worst thing in the world. Will say i'm now excited to jump on this thing in a week or two - bonus points to Dreamworld / Cutting Edge if they pull a Soarin' at the end of the ride's film and the fly-over ends back in at Dreamworld. Switchbacks are all in. Sails look nice. Not sure about all the white. Bit boring. With the huge barriers down it's much easier to see now. It's a tight fit. (THATS WHAT SHE SAID) The connection between old and new is... interesting. 😕 Note the switchbacks on the left - i'm guessing for Ride Express? A closer look at the main entrance. Three stories? Signs. There was another sign near Billabong which shows something different as well. It definitely wasn't always going to look this way outside. Big ol' white bum with a lot of exhausts. A wider look at what's going on. And some panos for the pano folk.
