See I actually agree with that. But I think a couple rides like that are healthy for parks to have. The 'no way' leads to good fun banter between friends and stories about the crazy ride you were talked into going on and how amazing it was and how scary it was. GD does it perfectly. Thats what I'm talking about when I talk about rides that capture the public's imagination. GD does it, ToT does it, Rivals does it Superman does it. Even Claw and Wipeout do it a bit. (Pandamonium doesn't do it because people look at it and go 'that doesnt look fun or scary, that just looks like it'll make me sick') Problem is for DW that their big 'OMG' rides aren't long for this world and replacements are needed. It won't be long before SW adds a proper new ride and if that captures the public's imagination right as DW' best thrill rides close the it's all over. Yes all parks need more genuine family rides, SV is a good family ride, but that is not what's going to pull them out of a hole.5 points

I don’t think I fully agree with you. A major reset like you’ve proposed is overkill. While HWSW definitely needs to go, and ToT either needs an axing or a big refurb, I don’t think tearing down any of the other rides you mentioned will do the park any good. Wipeout needs a bit of TLC and/or a partial rebuild, but I don’t think getting rid of it is a good idea, especially seeing it’s one of the last of its kind. Buzzsaw just needs to be maintained better and I’m sure it will last a lot longer, it’s still a reasonably young ride. And removing the giant drop would be a huge blow to the park, it’s one of the park’s biggest draw cards and is still in much better condition than some of its other rides. That said I’m not opposed to taking out the gondolas and replacing them with falcons-fury style gondolas. Before DW start getting new rides they need to fix their current problems. One of the biggest of which is the way they look after their existing rides. They need to start putting in the proper maintainence instead of keeping the rides closed for half a year and then fixing them with a band aid. If you’re waiting an extended period of time to wait for a key part from the manufacturer, spend that closure time to ensure the rest of the ride is in top condition instead of letting it rot and remain unreliable on reopening (as was the case with Buzzsaw last year). They need to stop modifying the rides without guidance from the manufacturer... These unnecessary modifications are in no way making the rides safer, in fact it’s most likely the obvious. I know that Zamperla and Maurer and all the big ride manufacturers are making their rides safe, but when DW start chucking extra seatbelts and shoulder straps and cages on these rides, I find it hard to trust the safety of those rides any more. Dreamworld can build hundreds of new rides but if they don’t fix these current problems those rides aren’t going to last very long. How long are the effects on Sky Voyager going to last if dreamworld doesn’t maintain it properly? If VR can’t properly maintain some of the effects on JL, Scooby, or WWF, I don’t have much hope for DW maintaining SV properly. Re: a boomerang for dreamworld, it’s no from me. Those things are everywhere and you can get much better small-footprint, cheap rides nowadays (eg a Raptor). I’m not even sure if Vekoma builds their traditional boomerangs any more (only the family ones).3 points

To thrive long term Dreamworld needs to first restart their thrill rides agenda from square one. Rip down ToT, Hot Wheels, Giant Drop, Wipeout and Buzzsaw rather than wasting millions of dollars refreshing these rides every 10 years. MDMC, Claw, Tailspin and Pandemonium are the only thrill rides worth keeping at this point. Yes I do enjoy the aforementioned rides and ToT/Giant Drop are some of my favourites in the park but progress means change and these outdated rides are fast approaching their last legs. Keep the Dreamworld tower and convert GD to floorless gondolas a la Falcon's Fury. Build an Infinity Coaster or Mack launch coaster to replace ToT. A ABC Torbillion to replace Wipeout. An RMC Raptor or S&S 4D Free Spin to replace Hot Wheels. This has to be an action plan over a long term period (a good example of this is Ocean Park's Master Plan which doubled the park's size in under a decade). Thrill rides is obviously Dreamworld's weak link at the moment, remember how 10-15 years ago they took pride in their thrill rides collection. Now their youngest of the 'Big 9' is six years old. Dreamworks is desperate for an upgrade. Or if Universal wants to cut ties with Ardent, perhaps a new IP altogether, Cartoon Network, Sega or Pokemon would be strong candidates. Land freed up by the removal of ToT will give enough room to expand the Shrek/Kung Fu Panda area. ABC Kids World is a good start but the bigger family rides need attention now. Make use of all the empty spaces in the park. TRRR and Eureka's huge parcel of land could be used up by a new coaster, or better yet, the dark ride that Ardent has promised. Blue Lagoon should have been cleared forever ago and that land can be used for something relatively large. If Hot Wheels is removed its spot can be used for a new slide tower. Obviously none of this will ever happen because Ardent doesn't understand the concept of strategic thinking and prefers to run their existing rides into the ground instead. Sky Voyager is a good start but there's still a long way to go for Dreamworld to be a strong park once more. This situation has needed to be responded to since at least 2014 yet very little has been done, if anything at all.3 points

Thrill rides at a park represent their signature attractions. If Dreamworld built a big 'shit your pants' tier ride, they have a world (no pun intended) of marketing at their fingertips. Big rides brings in big crowds, exactly what happened when ToT first opened in 1997, and DC Rivals to a lesser extent. 2019 looks to be a reasonably quiet year for our parks and Dreamworld should have been aware of this after Village's recent two years of capex additions and seized the opportunity to plan and construct a giant thrill ride that opens in the September school Holidays/Boxing Day window without new competition from Village next door. SV and the upcoming lazy river are good additions and definitely fit well in the park but they aren't the ones that will turn Dreamworld around. If they spent $18 million on something like a Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster it would have been a better investment for the situation at hand but here we are, we have a cool little simulator that might not give the attendance boost the park is looking for.2 points

I'd say a bigger problem is a lack of crowds. If new thrill ride suddenly brought crowds in, even if that caused crowding elsewhere in the park, it would be a good thing. Also in response to the post above mine: all those numbers are utterly meaningless. Scooby has a capacity of 4 and Arkham has a capacity of 20.2 points

Almost 100% of that is bullshit. You were warned yesterday in this very thread, and this made up crap simply doesn't outweigh whatever other opinions you post here. We've been really forgiving and polite about this but enough's enough - consider this a very public last warning.2 points

How can the lazy river be extended when it is not even built?1 point

See heres the thing. If we ban him he'll be back. IP bans don't work these days. We'd rather have the trolls in plain sight rather than infiltrate the site then reveal themselves. But it only works if people block the obvious troll or don't respond everytime they post.1 point

And as heavily discussed on this forum, the reliability of those rides is questionable at the moment. Edit: Also thanks @joz appreciate the discussion.1 point

The problem with a Boomerang is that Rivals, Superman and Green Lantern exist. I think a Boomerang at a park like Aussie World or Fun Feilds would be huge, but not at Dreamworld. People know that Arkham isn't as good as the other 3 big coasters at MW, an they'll know a Boomerang isn't as good. Yes it's marketable, yes it's got the gimmicks, it's even got the nostalgia, but it's not something that will capture the public's imagination and the ride experience is sub par. Ultimately, ToT is probably on the way out. You're obviously not going to get anything taller or faster, but you do need something as awesome to replace it. A boomerang won't cut it. Maybe as something to chuck in as a HWSW replacement it could work, but I wouldn't see it as a ride that will massively turn the tide.1 point

Vekoma have washed their hands of ongoing support and the steel structure is very nearly end of life. The fact that it's a unique, iconic or a great ride doesn't change the fact that its days are numbered. Similar story for most things on that list really.1 point

Once you’ve rode 1 boomerang, you have rode them all. They are ruff, lift hills are extremely slow and they are just boring. To fill in TRR you need Something fresh and new new like a MACK power splash A MACK xtreme spinning coaster. And a HUSS enterprise but with a twist of the new elements that are available. https://www.hussrides.com/en/classic-rides/enterprise-2g2gh it would be so easy to theme everything in one area.1 point

Just came across this video, about what was behind Wonderland closing (although everyone in this group probably knows it was because of Sunways mismanagement and blaming everyone but themselves for the closure). It also mentions a proposed new park opening in 2022 at https://odysseyparksandresorts.com/2017/11/07/worlds-of-wonder-sydney-in-iaapas-funworld/, which we've probably all heard of before, but this time with an opening date of 2022. Although that was two years ago so who knows what their plans are now.1 point

It's definitely worth checking out the community guidelines, I think you'll find these sections under Membership that i've picked out relevant: We're all happy to have you on and contribute. I'm personally not interested in watching you come back week after week under a different pseudonym (yes we have our ways of knowing who's who) and slowly making bigger and bigger claims of grandiose, only for myself or one of the other mods to clean up the fallout (FYI, it's not a paid gig, we do it because we love theme parks and want to share our passion with others.)1 point

Wow melodramatic much? I agree that it is sad to see an original ride closing, but lets be honest here; it's not a timeless ride. It's not just the hardware that has worn out, the look and feel of the ride is dated. Also as much as it pains me to say it, MW is such a landlocked park that this sort of thing has to happen. There's bugger all room to really expand the park so the only sustainable option is to constantly replace existing attractions, and LTRR has been an ideal candidate for replacement for a long time now. Obviously this is all dependant on the replacement being good, but I'm optimistic that whatever takes over that building will be a solid addition to the park.1 point

Dreamworld has stated I think that it will under go major refurbishment, in late 2019 with the upgrade of its Tower Of Terror that will be undertaken from its manufacture Intamin. In my dreams, Rocky Hollow log ride will get a new cave with theming elements returning from the old Thunder River Rapids that was demolished late 2018. I super duper wish that White Water World will see an expansion of a lazy river, during this time faded attractions will also be undergoing a repaint with Super Tubes hydro coaster already been carried out. In my wildest dreams Sky Voyager will be opening shortly.0 points

Log ride is currently down for maintainance for approximately 1 month , hopefully will see removal of the temporary cages during this process.0 points

Thats a great idea!! They can put a few more slides in too, some change rooms and whatnot. Make a real area out of it. Possibly even call it something like "Green Lagoon" or "Blue Lake" or something. Just throwing ideas around.0 points

Sorry but I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. Sunway never purchased Wonderland with the intention of running it as a theme park, it was a strategic and very business smart investment with various factors coming into play, mainly the soon to be built M7 orbital in it's doorstep. If they hadn't done it the next owner would've. Was it sad? Yeah, it was shit to have the best job pulled out from under me and the rest of the staff. But I can now see it for what it was, a very smart business decision. "The Bus is now leaving for Purposes, NSW"0 points

Should Dreamworld even keep the rocky Hollow log ride with the cave now gone it's not really worth keeping, it be better as a foot path as the boats go really slow around the course anyways, people can walk faster. Perhaps they could make the plunge a slide instead.0 points

Sky Voyager was awesome, the internals was exactly what I thought. Themed as an airport. Runway stripped flooring, massive 747 passenger plane model on display. Awesome shop. Awesome film. Mist not yet working but the turning, spinning etc are great0 points
