  1. There will be no theme park that will be able to compete with us’: Movie World plans for a hotel Village Roadshow has reignited its plans for a hotel at Movie World, lodging a trademark application that reveals its likely branding for the nine-storey, 398-room landmark. VILLAGE Roadshow has reignited its plans for a hotel at Movie World, lodging a trademark application that reveals its likely branding for the nine-storey, 398-room landmark. IP Australia records show Village Roadshow applied for a trademark for “Hotel V” at the end of March. It is pending registration. Village Roadshow, which was delisted from the ASX last year after a takeover by private equity firm BGH, gained development approval for a hotel in 2017 for its 14ha site at Oxenford. Planning documents reveal the development will include 32m high, nine-floor “theme park hotel” with 398 suites which is earmarked for land currently occupied by its northernmost carpark fronting Entertainment Drive. The ground floor will house reception, a lobby, administration office, business centre, bar, function centre, cafe, kitchen, kids club, amenities, gym and hotel back-of-house facilities. Ramp access and an elevated walkway on level one is planned to provide guests connection to the adjoining restaurant and dining precinct building plus theme park entry. The project is also set to incorporate “extensive outdoor swimming facilities, outdoor guest recreation areas and feature landscaping plantings”. A three-storey restaurant and dining precinct building, including a ground-level cafe and upper-level restaurant is also a feature of the plan. “Guest access to the restaurant and dining precinct is provided via an elevated walkway above the proposed porte-cochere, which will provide a prominent architectural feature” planning documents lodged by Urbis said. Village Roadshow declined to comment on hotel progress, but chief operating officer Bikash Randhawa has been active on social media, hyping big upcoming reveals for the company: “I don’t do this often, but get ready for some HUGE announcements from us. There will be no theme park on the GC or in Australia that will be able to compete with us.” When someone posted a photo of a Harry Potter studio, Mr Randhawa replied: “That’s small with what will happen over time.” When another person suggested another theme park was coming to the Gold Coast, he said “over the next few announcements, better than that”. Mr Randhawa said “no way” when someone suggested a casino could be built at Movie World. The hotel will be Village Roadshow’s latest in a hefty pipeline of investments on the Gold Coast, which in recent years, have included the $35 million DC Rivals Hypercoaster, Top Golf and its $50 million Atlantis precinct at SeaWorld, which is expected to be completed in mid-late 2021. The news follows revelations last week that Dreamworld’s owner Ardent Leisure was also shopping for major new attractions as work continued on its $32 million flagship ride, the Steel Taipan. https://www.goldcoastbulletin.com.au/business/gold-coast-business/there-will-be-no-theme-park-that-will-be-able-to-compete-with-us-movie-world-plans-for-a-hotel/news-story/e5e43e739e312105dd3e706f1fb8dfd0?fbclid=IwAR0M4MNR8C_L9V9cgSGI-xRjfcxlmRrGkbn-b1LwP_rUe5cSGHbUkMxRSXY
  2. As much as I'm not a fan of the names or logos, I do appreciate that LPS are announcing each attraction as they are completed, giving each ride some good attention. I also think the Maloney's Corner area is going to be great - so much going on in one area. It should have some great energy. Only thing I would hope for is a few pieces of decent theming and signage to complete the atmosphere.
  3. This idea is awesome! Unfortunately, the Police Academy costumes are gone. However, if I recall Movie World might still have Lassard’s golf buggy. Several items were sold at an silent auction Movie World held in 2014. Props and vehicles such the 20th birthday cake, the Police Academy cop car, a turtle from LTRR, life preserver rings from LTRR, An alien from the Bermuda Triangle, The Penguins train etc. I think the Daffy car is still around but I highly doubt Mr Freeze’s truck, the Daily Planet parade float and Spooky Island parade float are sitting BOH. I have heard that some older characters are making an appearance.
  4. No way, they are always unique and cool.
  5. If the place had one room, and only Austrlain Coaster fans went, it still wouldn't be full most nights. Coaster fans are not important or sizeable demographic. Also the M1 is going to be the bigger issue as far as noise goes. I'd expect some pretty decent sound proofing going on. The target market one is interesting though. Hotel V sounds like it's one of those dimly lit trendy places that is everywhere in surfers these days. It doesn't scream family hotel like say 'Movie World Resort' would. I wonder if the market is more the Top Golf/ Corperate/ sophisticated crowd while Sea World Resort stays being all about the families. The name to me seems more consistent with Gold Class Cinemas than it does a theme park holiday hotel. My standard 'Village isn't a lifestyle brand, stop trying to make it a thing' rant aside, that's what it sounds like to me. Less family resort, more cocktail lounges. Yes resort stuff with nice pools and whatnot, but no tipping bucket if you know what I mean.
  6. When the names for these rides were revealed, I (and a few others if i recall) felt some of the names to be a bit disappointing - including the generic boomerang (since most parks around the world are this lazy with the boomerang ride models). But seeing this artwork and the nod to indigenous culture - so long as the artwork was commissioned by an appropriate indigenous artist - its very appropriate I think.
  7. That would be a negative I reckon
  8. DW: Guys, we might actually have to put some proper money down for this new ride Mack: Hey, we have a half price coaster someone else pulled out of DW: Eveything is coming up Milhouse!
  9. I kind of imagine DW's ride selection process for about the past couple of decades has been to jump on a ride manufacturer's website, click sort by lowest price, then click add to cart on the top result. Buzzsaw is a classic example of that.
  10. I made this an unlisted video but luna park have added a video on the home page to prepare for the june opening with a nice animation snippet of Boomerang and sledgehammer and if you want to check the website out https://www.lunaparksydney.com/
  11. I hope we can see a more formal outline in the future because as much as I'm excited by this development, I also have my personal concerns. This hotel will really need some major draws to pull me away from Surfers. As much as I love the parks, I can't justify staying out at Coomera with one of the sole reasons being the neat novelty that this will be attached to Movie World. There is just way more to do out at Surfers and I can continue my night with multiple bars, arcades, etc. in the city. Whilst MW has Top Golf, it's very expensive and too limited in capacity to carry the area's nightlife. I wouldn't be surprised if the restaurant precinct that they've proposed will have a couple themed rockpool dining restaurants such as the Bavarian which would definitely be fun. Though the number one thing for me with staying on-site is convenience. If a park day finished at midnight after getting up at 6 AM to beat the crowds, then you bet I'll stay on-site to get some extra sleep, but considering the parks close so early I don't really see this having that value. Also what are the options if you want to visit Sea World? Will there be a shuttle? Can I stay at this hotel and then the next night stay at the Sea World Resort and have my bags transferred? However it is interesting that they could swing this as being the resort to stay at when you're visiting ANY park out that way, not just VRTP properties. This will be just down the road from Dreamworld and White Water World, so it could be an enticing alternative to the legendary and coveted Coomera Inn. VRTP would effectively be making money off their competition. Though I just can't help feel like VRTP know something we don't in all this, and I wont be surprised if this is the start of multiple announcements. Disney hotel guests are almost entirely in the parks so there is no real problem with noise considering that those who would be complaining are the ones making the noise. The exception are those leaving the resort or just arriving from travel, but they're often hyped further by the activity of the park so it's not really a problem. I don't mean to be rude when I say this, but why? Seems like a nifty novelty for out of towners, but unlike the themed amenities provided at other international resorts that have their niche appeals, I can't see the benefit for locals.
  12. Yeah righto. Can we not make it personal.
  13. Aren't all of Luna Park's ride names pretty average and generic, since always? Come ride "Rotor" or "River Caves" or "Flying Saucer"
  14. Cue more rakes. *triggered* Great find @Brad2912 thanks for posting!
  15. Thing is I’ve always had a belief that the idea of a theme park is to escape everyday life. By that reasoning I don’t want to see shows I can see at any random event, regional show, etc etc. And the FMX offerings of “give it up for”, loud revs, all motor based stunts/tricks really are the same thing you see everywhere. No matter what the wrapping. Great shows written by talented people are definitely what’s called for as mentioned above. But they also have to be curated by seasoned park management to ensure what is delivered is sustainable long term. As someone said this has been proven possible time and time again at their Outback and Paradise Country shows so roll this out further.
  16. It’s kind of a mixture between both, it’s not as if vrtp go here’s the money just put on a show they would still have a say and over see it. Everything would be ok’d by vrtp and watching/visiting the parks enough you see a lot of vrtp management in the crowds from time to time. It’s not like vrtp don’t have a glue what’s going on in their own backyard. I think we can all agree we all like pa
  17. To be honest if you could run Rivals without stacking, then the capacity would be plenty. That would mean opening the entrance gates as soon as the train parks like is standard around the world, and having more than 2 station staff. It would actually be fascinating to see the numbers and if an extra 2 loaders would be instantly paid for by increased ride photo/On ride video sales.
  18. No. But Showtime shouldn't write the shows either. Outsource the writing and get a proper production company to produce the shows, and hire Showtime FMX to execute them. FMX shows are pretty ordinary, but the ones written and produced in house aren't any better. Has anyone actually watched Seal Guardians or Affinity?
  19. I love them too and how they also have a boomerang on the front seat is also pretty cool plus I have a couple more photos to share
  20. Was In today for another look. that first turn after the drop is going to be intense can not wait, the layout looks fantastic
  21. Bumping up a topic here, but what I’m about to tell you all is very important. If you have never used them, I highly recommend. When you next visit Dreamworld, use the toilets in tiger island. They are the best theme park toilets on the Gold Coast. They are so so clean and the best themed toilets I’ve been to. Nearly every detail has been considered to make them fit the theme of tiger island. This precinct for me is still the best themed and well done area in any theme park on the Gold Coast. Areas like Castaway Bay, Villains precinct, Dreamworks and Nickelodeon are all great, but there is something about the whole Tiger Island area that I alway love visiting and looking at all the details.
  22. I'm surprised you'd even know what the mid-2000's looked like. Luna Park is very much retro-focussed, with classics like the Rotor, the Wild Mouse and Coney Island. Ultra modern and edgy just doesn't fit the theme they've got going to begin with, so if you're picking up retro vibes from it, they've probably hit it on the head.
  23. DW saw a working train and had to put a stop to it
