  1. What a flop of a ride. Through and through disaster. A shit ride bought from a 3rd tier manufacturer (maybe 2nd tier if you want to be generous) that was purchased because it was the cheapest option for a ride. Ran into the ground for its entire life and eventually aged into a shithouse bone shaker. Frequently in and out of closure for about half of its time at DW and outlived by a coaster three times its age. Not to mention, it ran for only 9 years before Ardent gave up, an embarrassment considering literal prototype coasters have operated for twice as long before closing. This is why you invest in high quality attractions and maintain them properly, rather than going for quite literally the cheapest possible option. Let Buzzsaw serve as a warning to our parks wanting to cheap out on attractions and maintenance as it is the prime example of what happens when operators don't care about their parks.
  2. Dreamworld won’t be gone for good. Give it 5-7 years and it will be heading towards becoming what it used to be.
  3. It's not even optics, it's that the park is really thread bare right now; they kind of need the filler. I assume it's one of those things where it's end of life, costs a ton to maintain, isn't popular and is closed a fair chunk of the time. I'm not surprised (or even sad) it's going, but I'd have thought string it out for a yeah and close it when you add a new flat ride or something cheap just to keep the park feeling full in the meantime.
  4. We all knew this day was coming though right. I think a lot of us saw Buzzsaw as a bad investment when it was announced a decade ago. In other news the Dreamworld train is getting an upgrade
  5. I didn’t say that was the only reason, but why invest in costly and time consuming maintenance periods, constantly, when the ride itself isn’t well received or ridden?
  6. After September, BuzzSaw would of been required to do the new 10 yearly inspections as the ride would be turning 10. The new process possibly would of made BuzzSaw harder to maintain.
  7. If the nsw govt had locked down the eastern suburbs 4-5 weeks ago Sydney and Melbourne wouldn’t be in lockdown today. But money talks and when the rich end of town fill the political coffers they are not treated like everyone else…
  8. I dont agree on that one. The park has plenty of smaller rides, that's mostly what it was getting prior to Sky Voyager right? Ocean parade and Dreamworks are both solid flat ride precincts, so adding another flat ride precinct wont add value or depth to the lineup. At this point I think a water ride is the most urgent, and then say a dark ride, and another coaster.
  9. Random thoughts having read this thread: Buzzsaw is no great loss. It was and is a turd. I’m much more upset about the demise of Big Red Car, which made me laugh. Abyss is a good ride that would be better with lap bars. For atmosphere alone (if perhaps not ride selection) I regard Adventure World as one of the top parks in Australia. I’m not inclined to write off Dreamworld just yet. The Mack Blue Fire is a good ride and a crowd pleaser. A few more upgrades like that could turn the place around. They’d be mad to remove the Giant Drop. Though it’s not a record holder any more it’s nevertheless the most iconic ride they have.
  10. They could’ve even done the old trick of having it under maintenance until they can announce a new attraction
  11. It’s the timing that’s bad optics. It’ll be tough to justify the price in the short term now, let alone an increase in the long term. If they held onto it for another year or two you could’ve had a chance to replace buzzsaw with another new thing. Instead it joins a long list of shuttered rides post-incident.
  12. What in the fuck does 'Given the ride's proximity' mean?
  13. The track may well have been removed by then. (I'm here all week!)
  14. But surely they wouldn't remove it just because it's unpopular. They desperately need thrill rides and Buzzsaw was bound to become more popular when ST opens.
  15. as much as they look like a great ride, i don’t think it would be smart placing a triple launch coaster next to another triple launch coaster a couple years apart from each-other…
  16. 1 point
Lockdown and not going to parks has gotten me rather bored so I've been building an Epcot-style park as a PLC project. I might share some more photos as I keep working on this if interested!
  17. While people say the lockdown rules were not strict enough if Sydney residents simply abided by the most basic instructions then these new levels of messed up restrictions wouldn't have occurred. I'm not just speaking for the amusement industry but the entire population of greater Sydney. Sure, the government should have been slightly harsher but that didn't occur. People should have been intelligent enough to understand stat at home orders unless for essential reasons.
  18. The reason why I don’t think DW will close down is because if they got to a situation where that could potentially happen, I feel like the government would step in to help it. And I’m sure some investor would buy the park too. I think after ST, they need to get 2-3 more big investments within the next 5 years. Maybe one of those investments could be multiple smaller rides at once (potential new land or expansion of existing, eg. Rocky hollow). Only then I think the park will be at a point where all the closures will be seen as ‘replaced’. I think in the mean time, they need to keep up with the school holiday entertainment/events, as they are proving to be very popular
  19. I think it's a bit unfair to call out Mark Shaw and AW management for Abyss. It was a good investment for the biggest gap in the park's lineup. The main flaw with it is that lap bars should have been installed on the trains at the start rather than the shoulder restraints, which were already not doing favours to some of the older eurofighters back then. DW on the other hand paid almost half of Abyss's budget for Buzzsaw (figure was $7m iirc) from a much larger park. Buzzsaw is a more egregious example of being cheap imo. There was a time when Adventure World was seen as the benchmark for theme park operation in this country and that's when Mark was around.
  20. Who would've thought the 25 year old concussion-inducing arrow looper would outlive the (sounds a bit odd but is true) last coaster dreamworld actually added. Look i'm no expert but parks typically don't remove an attraction due to it's proximity to a new development, seems a bit odd. If that were the case, you'd think they'd just move it somewhere else in the park. Wouldn't surprise me if they were looking to get rid of it in the next 5ish years only for a buyer to pop up now, in which case it would make sense to uproot it and move it on, especially given its removal will then be overshadowed by the positivity of ST opening.
  21. I can see this area being changed to a viewing area for Steel Taipan and that’s all that it will remain. It will be an awesome spot for people to wait and watch riders as you get a view of the entire track
  22. Yeah righto, you hate Ardent, we get it!
  23. It must be hard trying to find angles to make a much shorter circuit seem like it's an upgrade. New carriages is one way I guess. I've said for years that they should close the station at Billabong Cafe and Rocky Hollow and have it not stop at Main Station for 10mins like they currently do. With how short it is they'll almost need to leave Billabong station in to try and trick people into thinking the ride has a bit of length to it.
  24. Last time I looked at it, it was a big pink circle of steel
  25. Since 2016 the park has closed: River Rapids, Log Ride, Flowrider, Wipeout, TOT, Big Red Car, Cinema, Zombie Evilution, Brocks Garage, Hop and Hoot and now BuzzSaw. Some of those were much less of a loss than others, but still, that’s a long list of attractions to close. Since then they’ve got SkyVoyager, soon Steel Taipan and they utilise the Exhbition centre quite often too.
  26. @Gazza that is very true. Over the past year, anytime I’ve gone the longest queue time i think I’ve seen is 15 minutes. Most of the time it’s a one or two cycle queue. Even last weekend when the park was very busy with an almost full car park, it was basically a walk on. I don’t know if it’s just because it’s now hidden with river rapids gone, but in the past 5 years it’s become less and less popular. People complain about the ride going, but it has clearly not been a popular ride anyway and once it is gone, people probably won’t miss it.
  27. Just a generic reason I think. I’d imagine the real reason is old park management didn’t look after it properly and it’s costing to much to keep repairing it. (If you think about how much time it’s been under maintenance for over the past couple years, it’s pretty bad). So they are just going to get rid of it and put that money elsewhere at some point. I don’t think we’ll see another attraction go here anytime soon. It’s too narrow of area, especially now Steel Taipan is there. And I think we’ll see it removed before ST opens
  28. I want to believe it’s an out-of-season April fools joke because this is so utterly ridiculous. I received this email aswell. also what expansions can they do there, they can’t add another flat ride there. i wouldn’t be surprised if it was to do with the safety of the ride. They did that with TOT2, in all over the last 3 years they have removed a total of 4 rides the last 3 where justified, operating for 20+ years for a ride is hard to do unless there is extended maintenance to a ride, especially in the Australian heat. Buzzsaw has been operating for 9 years, I can see that the support structure is close to the tail of taipan. But I’m just shocked, the downfall is here and it is taking its brutal path…
  29. Bearing in mind that a good portion of the target market (under 30s) are unlikely to be fully vaccinated by October, I’m surprised this is going ahead. Seems an ideal environment for a COVID superspreader event and much harder to enforce social distancing than during the daytime.
  30. Maybe the blue lagoon area is where the new hotel will be, catch the train from the hotel into the park?
  31. I give Dreamworld another 5-7 years before it's gone for good
  32. if they are closing buzzsaw cause of the fact ride's proximity and future development, you would think giant drop is in same boat as buzz saw. I expect giant drop to be gone by end of next year.
  33. It feels like they're were powering through up until DW announced Steel Taipan's opening date goal, and just went "oh well, no need to rush, we've got til December to get this all finished now"
  34. The audio alone of that video is heartbreaking when you know the outcome. The last few weeks we have seen a lot more incidents in Theme Parks than normal and it's a worrying trend.
