Both Gold Coast companies dial up their marketing spin to 11 when advertising new attractions so I think DW get a pass here when it comes to any claims of being their largest ever investment. And to be fair, this is exactly the kind of ride we have been asking them to build and the return to nicely presented lands (remember when we had lands instead of precincts? Weren’t those wonderful times??) we have all wanted. So its hard to criticize much of anything about this new coaster. I’ll call bullshit on any kind of ‘changing the face of family entertainment’ claim or anything like that but that’s only negative thing I could say.

This is definitely the same space and viewing window that is now in the Penguin Encounter exhibit. And nice souvenir video. That’s actually from my VHS tape!

I think it comes down to two things. Firstly, ToT was a bit if a one of a kind OMFG kind of ride. Where as DC Rivals is a solid coaster, but internationally it’s one of many. Its good, maybe even great, but is it “OMFG WHAT WAS THAT?” good? Still why I 100% rate Superman over Rivals any day. Secondly ToT in its hey day was a time when the general masses weren’t as exposed to international attractions both via social media and also through affordable travel. Well it also used to take 25mins to get from Gold Coast airport to Surfers, but now it’s 50. The whole city is bursting with people, its record numbers of people and this flows into the parks. Everything is busier and takes longer on the Gold Coast than it used to. For me the LAST place I’d want to be at this time is the theme parks, but as you can clearly see, many do not feel the same. As pointed out though, having Scooby and Arkham (and Tunes River Ride for that matter) missing doesn’t help. Hopefully next year this makes things a bit better.

That is very nice that he took time to respond directly, but more importantly agreed with you on the choice of music. These are the subtle unquantifiable items that make a huge subliminal impact on guest experience.

Absolutely right! Which is why it is just such a shame all that whimsy is erased by running that god awful lighting sequence which makes it look like a piece of tacky carnival crap. I just can’t understand why you’d go to all that effort with the extra detailing, lovely buildings, fountain, etc and then balls it at the finish line with those lights.

That's a great find on the 1998 photo! This somewhat peaked my interest given I knew they raised the roof but then I went looking and couldn't find any real evidence of such a thing. Sadly google Earth only went back to 2002 so happy you pulled that above photo. Are there more from other years? I did have a look though over at Movie Park because they had the exact same building setup (apart from roof material) from their Gremlin's ride and in their refit used the same building as original so you can see on this comparison that the buildings there are all one height. Bit of fascinating park trivia and I 100% recon this would have been another one of those ways to make a project more economical back in the day with loopholes and cleaver constructions hacks.

Whist this is being done by one of the best content creation companies in the business I can’t help but feel it’s an odd choice. Surely what the market wants from Luna Park is nostalgia and throwback real world experiences in a world class location. Same same virtual projection worlds that are already everywhere just seem really off brand.

Be interesting to see what theming they have in store and who is designing/implementing it. There’s only a handful of people with the specialised skills to do it properly and haven’t heard a peep of this project from any of them.

For the love of god please don’t let a single one of those hideous colours see the light of day (or night!). The ride will look elegant and spectacular with lighting sequences of all warm white colour mimicking the incandescent festoon globes of old. Hopefully they resist the temptation to put it in Full Kebab Shop mode and run awful colours on it (the above video is just testing so judgement reserved until it is finished).

100% a new gondola system with a mid-station at the castle and then continuing to the resort!

To be exact the machines in use are a Look Solutions Cryo Fog. @Gazza is right, you can see one of the tanks down below the brake run. @DaptoFunlandGuy of course there could be a manual control but a) ride ops are there to focus on safe ride operation, not operate show elements b) the goal (and what happens) is to have the ride dispatch as soon as its ready so you don’t want them ‘waiting for fog’ any more than waiting for a video. Fun fact, the fog actually triggers from a station attendant dispatch button so there is a tiny bit of time before actual dispatch of the train from the main panel. Thus concludes my Dean schooling for today.

The very nature of Low Fog/CO2 effects is that they are quick dispersing. The last thing you want is it ‘filling’ the station. The real issue you have at Leviathan is the small amount of time between the Dispatch command and the train rolling out. This doesn’t really give enough time for the effects to start flowing and be effective.

Problem is their fan base gets smaller after ever ride.

I would think the best look would be some whimsical style artwork as a mural on that fence depicting what is to come for the area. Maybe that’s in the works?

Leviathan’s lights do already follow the train. However as the train’s eyes light up the lights actually turn OFF on the structure as it passes by as the park wanted the effect of a ‘shadow’ of the creature and to emphasize the train lighting. No it doesn’t provide the same effect, it probably has more impact given the scale of the structure. However currently that’s not the program that’s in use as the park wanted what’s above. But I’ve seen it and it looked great. It could also easily be incorporated into any shows on the lake.

Has a nicer ring to it than Memorial Factory in Coomera though

Of all the insanely moronic ideas you've proposed this is by far the worst. Which pool of specialised ride mechanics will they pull from for this exactly? And yes, let's incentivise people with money to have rides open that shouldn't be (the only reason they are closed is because they require maintenance)!

It’s got to be one of the best and most thrilling rides in the world, why change a thing? Good on them for investing to keep it running for years to come!
