A steam train isnโ€™t a museum piece, itโ€™s an experience that belongs in a park.

Diesel works as transport. Steam works as theatre.

Steam breathes, hisses, chuffs, and smells of oil and adventure. Even non-train fans instantly read it as something special.

In a theme park, that matters. Diesel moves guests from A to B. Steam is the attraction. People line up for it, photograph it, and react when it rolls past.

Theme parks trade in sensory moments, and steam delivers with sound, motion, heat, smell, and visible power. Diesel offers efficiency, not character.

Steam also slows the park down in a good way, creating calm, memorable moments. Over time, it becomes an icon. Diesel is forgotten as soon as you step off.

Theme parks are memory factories and what Steam train doesn't create a great memory.

Folks, before you buy into the fantasy, remember - this guy wants the park to open a waterpark in winter.

I was litterally at the Powerhouse 2 weeks ago just to look at the 2 steam trains. If i wanted to ride one, i can go straight over to the Zig Zag Railway for that fix. Otherwise TransportNSW and others have a plethora of steam related events.

Ignore his bait and continued strawman tactics.

Nobody is arguing that parks that have steam shouldn't do everything they can do keep them around - but those who don't, shouldn't be expected to establish it at such considerable expense.

Spotted this today. Dreamworld are advertising that theyโ€™re โ€œAustraliaโ€™s best rated theme parkโ€. Not sure if this claim is entirely accurate though, as they appear to be neck and neck with Adventure World in Perth who have the exact same rating of 4.4 on Google and a slightly higher rating on TripAdvisor (though they donโ€™t have as many reviews overall, so I guess thatโ€™s where DW might technically have an edge). Itโ€™s by far the highest rated park on the Gold Coast though. Ironically, I saw this at Movie World, which is currently the lowest rated park by quite a margin (with a rating of 4.0 on Google and only 3.5 on TripAdvisor).

  1. Nobody remembers Adventure World

  2. All you have to do is have stats that your claim was accurate at the time you prepared your campaign. The fine print on the campaign will just be "according to X specific review site, January 12 2026". They only have to be able to demonstrate it as being true at one point in recent time.

  3. They've marketed this claim several times previously based on their positive google reviews, it's not like its a new claim out of left field.

  4. Bloody cheeky putting it on a double decker bus that primarily services the theme parks, knowing full well it's going to rock up to Entertainment Drive on the daily... ;)

@noll_57 Youโ€™d expect the bigger crowds Dreamworld has been seeing to hurt the ratings, but over the last 12 months the score has actually strengthened.

Thatโ€™s because Dreamworld handle crowds much better than Movie World these days. DWโ€™s faster operations and better ride availability would go a long way in terms of overall guest satisfaction.

The only ride I struggle to queue for is Sky Voyager. If the line reaches the door, I skip it. Because the queue stops and starts rather than moving constantly which makes it feel a lot slower. I wish SV had a system where, once the queue hit a certain length, something played on the screens, maybe a documentary, cartoons, or even Dreamworld promos, just anything to look at besides four walls.

The trouble with Sky Voyager is that it loads on two levels, so you have to split the ride group into two in pre-load, and that is the best time to do the safety video. I think Tokyo's version of Soarin does it best - a short pre-show that has nothing to do with safety in one room, then mustering everyone to their boarding groups for the safety briefing in a different room. With each room taking a few minutes, plus the travel time between rooms, it eats the ride time well, so you don't feel like you're queueing for that period.

Doing it for Sky Voyager would require additional queue staff to group earlier in the line, and it would see the bulk of waiting guests pushed into the outside overflow queue to utilise the inner rooms as pre-shows.

I'd love to see them change it up but ultimately I don't have a problem with the way it is currently set up - It's a nice place to go for some respite from the heat and spend a few minutes in the air conditioning. I have queued in the 'departure board' room a few times (outside the luggage room), but no way i'd wait in the overflow, no matter how much I wanted to ride it.

So I guess for most people who aren't dead-set against anything the park does, it's fine how it is.

I've already put a SV Q solution to DW, no movement just yet but installing sliding bench seating around the outer Queue rails of SV -not a new idea, but one that would make the whole stationary waiting (nature of a cycle ride) ordeal so much more comfortable, and ๐Ÿคž might just slow down those clamouring kiddies from further breaking the already broken fake suitcases?

"Mystery Gold Coast buyer" - pure conjecture on my part, but some comments on a Facebook thread said it was out of survey (registration I'm guessing). Popping it static into the Murrisippi might not require that.

Safe to say thatโ€™s not happeningโ€ฆ.

  1. it's taking on water. it didn't "sink" and they're actively pumping the water out

  2. the vessel has already been sold, for around $550,000 though the buyer is unknown so this event doesn't change anything that wasn't already in train

  3. it was already safe to say it wasn't happening because physics.

The KQ/s never made a serious $$$$ for anyone, so if it sank, it'd be a fitting end!

I think Dreamworld is going to have to consider expanding the car park at this rate. It was once again completely full today, with not a single free space available. People were even resorting to parking in garden beds, over pedestrian crossings and on the nature strip near the highway to try and get in (I opted to park in a side street and walk back). Inside the park it was absolutely packed, Iโ€™ve never seen Main Street so busy (even during previous Easter holiday seasons)! It was literally a sea of people. Despite this however, the park still had a great atmosphere and it seemed like operations were (at least for the most part) keeping up fairly well.

Itโ€™s great to see, but usually when the park is that busy theyโ€™ll open up the gate to access the parking area near the former blue lagoon/big brother house. Thereโ€™s no real space to expand the existing car park, particularly with the areas master plan (which will actually take some spaces).

Easter weekend is their second busiest time of the year, but concentrated into a shorter timespan than the summer holidays. This isn't a new thing either - Wonderland had the same massive easter crowds 25-30 years ago - even with the Sydney Royal happening.

Honestly if the carpark is at capacity on these peak days and not any other, I don't think there's a problem. Not being able to find a park is probably a good sign you should go elsewhere.

If you're a local that makes sense, not so much if you've traveled from interstate specifically to visit the parks.

Having visited the parks from interstate over an Easter break in the past, 0/10 do not recommend.

It hadnโ€™t been a thing at Dreamworld for a long time though and itโ€™s now happening quite often, sometimes even outside peak times (it was full the day Motocoaster closed for example). Thereโ€™s been a few weekends recently where I struggled to find a park and they were outside peak holiday periods.

Yes of course - if Easter long weekend is your only option, then you go, but you go expecting that pain. If you've got the entire week - maybe go do something else on the long weekend and come back tuesday.

I see this as a good thing.

It is a good thing. I was using the parking situation to demonstrate how much the parkโ€™s attendance has improved and how theyโ€™re now consistently pulling in large crowds.

Another example of DW actively listening to Guest Feedback ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Other noticeable improvements from the latest refurb; repainted ceiling/walls in common areas & that awful dead rat smell is (mostly) gone.๐Ÿ™

Best of all, I'm thoroughly impressed with how they are constantly improving the "flight experience" with noticeable adjustments to the side Gondola-to-screen alignment and the projection quality overall has never looked better, infact I would say it's now at Disney standard!

I'm sure they will address the shows Audio and physical effects in the future, as they continue to improve the overall experience, but it's just so good to enjoy the experience more every time I ride๐Ÿ‘

So happy they have proper chairs there now. Everyone just sat there and on the luggage anyways due to the long wait times so happy theyโ€™ve addressed while still keeping to the airport theme if you imagine hard enough that they are seats at the waiting areas at gates.

Edited by Smol bean

^Absolutely! Personally, I'd have preferred they put seats along the outer side, facing the screen, but semantics... ๐Ÿ™ƒHonestly, this is such a massive welcome for anyone with tired feet and in need of a break, while waiting for the next adventure ๐Ÿ‘
