  • This is a comment I always take issue with!! Unless you are a park employee or ride contractor/manufacturer EVERYONE is general public. Self proclaimed enthusiast or not, you're still general public.

  • Ta for the pic. They did miss out on the steepest drop record, but at least they can claim for the worlds largest bug zapper.

The soft opening without any announcement is certainly upsetting a few of the fans on Movie World's facebook page. Personally I can't understand their obsession with the exact opening date HOWEVER these guys are pretty enthusiastic about it all and the park should be encouraging that enthusiasm. I think Movie World definitely needs to do a bit more work to improve their marketing, including their social marketing. They probably should have at least let the fans know today that there was a chance it might do a 'soft' opening this afternoon. They do keep promising their facebook fans will be the 'first' to hear about things, when in reality they often end up being the last

The danger is that yeah, they do that, then everyone rages at them because it didn't open till late afternoon, and you have people waiting 6 hours for 1 hour of operation time. It doesn't matter in the end, all the 13 year olds complaining will come to the park tommorow via their orange go card/mum dropping them off, they will ride the new coaster, and their complaints will be lost in a sea of praise of how awesome the new ride is. Also, i find it hilarious that there have been some that have ridden it, and are more than happy to brag about doing so, but seem to keep quiet when actually asked what it was like.

i was there today, from noon till the end of white christmas and let me tell you that movieworld were in fine form today, customer service were rude and grumpy, grunting at people asking about when GL would be open. had lined up for 45min for scooby got to withing 4 ride cycles of getting on it, then all the lights came on and we were told that the ride was needing a quick reset and there would be a short delay, no more then 30 seconds later the entire line approx 300 people were told the right was shut till further notice and we were rudely told to exit the queue further more to this, staff were telling us GL was open so many of us were waiting in line to board and was told that after 200 people in the line that the ride was at compacity for the day and was once again rudely told to leave the queue line apart from that the only praise i give them today was during white christmas, lethal weapon and superman were pretty much walk on

Apparently a lucky few each day will get to ride at the park each afternoon (around 4pm) then you fill out a survey.

Movie World's fb has said it will be open from noon today for a limited number of riders. So if you are reading this, you've probably missed out. We'll see if they continue to do a couple of hundred per day at a random or regular time. I haven't head anyone say much about the ride yet. Makes me wonder if there is a non-disclosure agreement attached to the survey.

On park.... Checks can be seen still taking place. Not open yet. Framework for shading over that long queue ramp is partly done. Ops booth and underside of station roof is a huge comic book panel wrap.

Any sign of rockwork theming in the queue and big GL logo on the coaster itself (as per the map)? Also, anyone have any idea yet what audio actually plays out of the speakers?

The ride opened again at about 4. It plays some green lantern music and gets more dramatic depending where you are on the ride. You cannot really hear the music when the coaster is at speed. It is a very fun and smooth roller coaster though on par with superman escape in my books! Again nothing on WBMW Facebook so much for keeping fans upto date! The ride attendants kept saying that it would be put up so much for that! One ride attendant did say that the theming was not complete there is suppost to be mist in the line area the theming in the line is just about it at the moment. Main bits are the rock and green lantern logo and a giant hand with a green lantern ring on it.

Ok, so I got to take a look at the queue line, but once I sat down and got the harness down, it had 'technical difficulties'. :( The queue actually has much better theming than I would have expected.

Geesh, can we hear how the ride is and not about the queue theming lol...no offence, I'm just anxious I want to hear more reports!!!!

but once I sat down and got the harness down, it had 'technical difficulties

^Spited! I got on :D The joy of soft openings. It ran about 4 or so cars through, before breaking down. Anyway, my roundup: -Ride is really good, the drop looks steeper when you are on it, and you will have only your harness will hold you from falling. -From there, a quick incline, and a turn that feels like a wild mouse. -On the outside turn is best in a right hand seat because you'd get tipped more. I was on front left for my only ride. -Dive loop...again, you'll really hang. -And same again for the barrel roll, i chose left because on the barrel roll it means you'll revolve in the reverse direcition, with the seat pulling away from beneath you...really nifty. -Ride is smooth and comfortable, which is funny because it looks like the cars judder a bit when negotiating the course, but you dont feel it. -Only one small jolt..when you hit the brakes. -Harnesses are better than any other lap bar, including the Maurer version, lots of freedom and ergonomic. -One of things that makes you go "Oh snap"...The harness wont pull down at all until the lap seat belt has been done up. This avoids cedar fair type situations where, at their parks, they insist lap bars stay up until ops check belts are done up, before lowering the harness for you. Smart. -The first bit of the queue is Batmans old exit. There are three panels explaining Hal Jordans origins and childhool, prior to becoming Green Lantern. They are spaced such, and large enough that you can read them at walking pace. -In the queue, at the far end, you walk through a courtyard type area with gardens, and large comic book frames, with fibreglass characters popping out, mist, sound/music etc. A highlight is a large paralax that sneers "Give in to your fears!" that you wall under before heading up the main queue ramp. This is where the bulk of the theming is, and to be fair, it looks decent...I'm guessing that was the whole mindset...a living comic book. kind of rushed past a bit, so ill have to return to check it out. Photos are hard, especially today, because of the loose items being in the lockers. -Main queue ramp will have cantilevered shade structures. Not finished yet. I think this is a bit bare still, I'd put more palms etc on the creek side to make it feel less open, and provide more natural shade. The coaster side can stay unobstructed, because it provides great views of the dive loop and people coming into the brakes. -The station...The whole roof has a comic book scene of asteroids on it. The ops booth has one comic frame with the the words "Paralax is attacking earth, join the green lanterns in battle!" The other side has "Join the corps, recite the oath...In Brightest day blah blah ......" -Onboard audio...needs to be a bit louder, especially on the lift...nice anticipation music on the lift,,,the main bit is sort of action music meets 70s porno music lol. Alright actually. Anyway, its a bit of luck if you get a ride before Boxing day.

...and thank you Gazza. The theming/presentation sounds reasonable actually (phew!). I wouldn't have expected too much more for a ride of this sort. Hopefully Movie World will maintain the MIST & SOUNDS in the courtyard part. Glad to hear that the ride is smooth and that the on-board audio is good overall (apart from being too quiet). Good stuff!

Some pics of that courtyard bit from outside the actual area. Kind of frustrating because you can only see the back of what is at the end. Its bigger than i thought it would be anyway. Enlarge the 2nd pic, and you can see how the path zig zags a bit through the scenes for a fair way back.

Thanks for all the reports guys :). Nice to see the station isn't as poorly presented as I expected. In relation to other rides on the coast, how does it stack up?

I would say it is one of my favorites I like a ride where you don't feel like dying after! I would put it on par with superman escape but I think that the lethal wepon is a more intense coaster. The ride is better than the buzzsaw.

Hehe that's not hard! I'm eager to ride it now. Does anyone know if it will be open tomorrow?

I though that discussion had been well and truly had?

It's times like this I really wish it was possible to 'like' comments on parkz

OK but just so you know I don't read every post in this thread and only caught up on the last couple of posts just then. I apologize. I guess you could've just quoted it for me since you knew exactly where the information was but then that would be asking you to do something for someone and I should know better.

Do you think that this ride will have a quick moving line? And is the ride like scooby in the way where 2 cars are loaded at the same time and than sent off separately?

It was top of this page anyway, and a little bit of the bottom of the previous  Not that far to scroll is it

Should be yeah, it loads how you described. Having 7 cars will kind of force their hand in terms of having to load quickly.
