With the EKKA beginning in Brisbane beginning in just over three weeks what rides do you think will be new and which won't make another appearance at this years show? Also, has been everyone's favourite ride there in the past (or any traveling ride in Australia)? Mine would be between Extreme Speed, XXXL and the Top Scan.

TBH I couldn't care less about going on the rides. I'm considering taking my tripod along and getting some shots of the rides at night though.

Speaking of rides, unless I'm reading this wrong, for them to bring the Taipan (ex-seaworld coaster) the ride owner has to pay around $20,000. No wonder it's around $10/ride. ~2000 rides just to break even on the fee to arrive.

Fee per lineal metre ($)

GST inclusive

(Fees subject to change)

Ride – Main $1, 380

Despite having always lived in Brisbane, I've only been to the Ekka 5 times in the last thirty-something years, and not at all since the mid 90s. I am somewhat thinking about it for this year. I don't actually ever recall going on any rides.

Some long exposures with carny rides at night make interesting light patterns. I caught extreme speed one year at LPS, and it's light array made one heck of a photo.

It sounds quite prohibitive... I do know on the few occasions i've seen taipan it is normally either right at the bottom of a section or it is slotted in behind concessions skill games. I would imagine for something that has such a large footprint the RNA might offer something of a discount on floor space.

I'm thinking that because it's done per lineal metre, it's the frontage that counts - so if they angle it right, and give space in front of them for other outlets etc, they may only incur the cost of the frontage for the stationhouse area...

9D Cinema is like a 4D cinema really. It contains different effects along with the film (moving seats, water spray, etc)

That's awesome!

I meant speed 2 and the original speed.(Both owned by Goldenway) Does anyone know what happened with the original speed. A lot of shows have more than one of the same ride dodgems, ghost trains, simulators(show has 2) & yes some shows have freestyle and speed.

Seriously? I expected rides to be expensive but that is just crazy! Reminded again why it has been years since I have been to the Royal Queensland Show (Sorry, but the term "EKKA" is a strange and odd one, guess "exhibition" is too big of a word for the locals to pronounce).

Does anyone here share the opinion that just maybe with the introduction of Freestyle the two rides might decrease in price slightly to compete with each other? From memory the original Speed ride still travels but they made Speed 2 so they could cover more shows around Australia. I think but I'm not sure.
