Accident during Stunt Driver show at Movieworld

They could have made it interesting and set it up as a gymkhana track. Wouldn't really be a tie-in to anything but it would be fun to watch.

It's a shame the Stunt Driver show hasn't improved since the accident. It's been nearly a decade and you'd think they would've come up with something better at this point, if I wanted to watch cars go around in a circle I'd just go watch Bathurst instead

I don't bother with the show anymore. At this point it feels like an abandoned show set from a long ago time, and a bunch of kids have discovered it while exploring the ruins, and invented their own show in their imagination. The fact that it still looks straight out of a quaint italian town is jarring against the 'city vs country' utes, and it's the same trope rolled out at every capital city royal show by the Showtime team. 

The park continues to sacrifice their quality entertainment offerings for cheap and lazy solutions.

As much as I agree with you, it still puts bums on seats and guests do enjoy it. So I doubt much will change from VRTP.

Just discovered this thread (thanks for the bump). I doubt I still have the pictures, I might, but I was there that day. I remember it so vividly. I was 6 at the time, and I used to go to the stunt show every single weekend without fail, so I saw it at least twice, sometimes 3 times a week. I actually remember seeing one of the motorbike riders at a monster truck show that was held in the GC convention centre. Don't quote me on this but I think that the show was around 2017 or 2018. I remember that as soon as the accident happened, I stood up to get a better look, and although some knew what was wrong, most of the crowd thought it was part of the show. I still remember the Motorbike rider standing up bent over, before he limped of sidestage. My family was one of the first to leave as we were on the left side and near the exit, also because we knew something bad had happened. I'm not 100% sure on this, I may have just seen a video, but I may have also been there for the one where the motorbike Rider didn't land the jump and smashed into the side wall on the right side, but I'm not sure. If i still have any pics or videos I'll post it here.

It still baffles me that the first version of HSD began at the end of 2008 and was replaced early 2014 (just over 5 years). And I thought it was a very solid show that had some good rewatch ability. While HSD2 (despite having several changes over the years) has now been showing for over 10 years and it’s not good at all. It needs to go.

totally agree with you. I think the idea of a stunt show should stay, as it obviously gathers plenty of tourists, but this one is a watch and done show, there's almost zero rewatchability. They even removed the fireball at the end, HOW COULD THEY!? (I understand they had reasons, but still a crappy move by them yet again).

It all comes down to money\cost.

See they removed Police Academy because the stunt performers (of which that show had A LOT) were really expensive - they were paid the same rate as a movie stunt person (naturally so) and the HWSD show was a way to cut labour costs.

Unfortunately the guys who drove those cars were also professionals, and cost a bit too. Additionally, within the confines of the arena, there were bound to be collisions with barriers, and other vehicles from time to time, so the body work \ smash repair was also costly. The Mitsubishi Evos were high performance vehicles and required a lot of maintenance - especially the breakway car. We saw the jump ramps in the early show previews (up on two wheels, etc) early on but that element didn't appear regularly and was very high risk. I imagine that the show wasn't as cheap as they thought it'd be - and add on top the cost of rebuilding the arena to accommodate it.

They had to cut some parts of the show almost immediately as the chance of damage and the cost of repairs was just too high. HWSD2 was born out of a need to reduce labour and maintenance costs for the drivers and the Evos.

Cue Showtime. they've got their own crew, offer a fixed price contract (or at least they have done so elsewhere), and they're used to putting on shows on the show circuit across the country. It sure seems like a no brainer for Village to be able to offer a show without having to bear the risk\cost of damage and drivers. it's basically just outsourcing the show to a third party and letting them use your facility.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the country boy from the outback came to compete with his city cousin in a set right out of an Italian village.

Ah so of course the problem comes from the company not wanting to put out a quality experience just to have more money
