Ain't it just hilarious when a newbie comes along and (despite being dissed for a variety of reasons) keeps coming up with all these great topics that everyone else just loves to keep talking about!😁2 points

Given it's planned to open in December, one would think it's probably already under construction.... Nearmap made a pass on 13 September - so this is about as up to date as you can get! And yes, it does look like the go-kart track has been shortened significantly to fit it in....2 points

You thought it would be profitable. I suggested maybe it wasn't. You said I asked you You asked me So I gave you a detailed answer to your question, which you claimed you wouldn't read... that's fine, it just tells me next time you ask a question, I should just ignore it, instead of trying to help you. Also - i never said it was, or it wasn't. I suggested MAYBE it wasn't - especially when they were selling tickets for $10, whereas fright nights tickets sell for $45. Which leads me to your fright night question....2 points

Except no one added the word "porn" to any search? It's the bizarre spelling of sky ryder which landed us here and nothing else. But to your point... if you're going to purposely misspell a word to be unique and edgy (#parkz), maybe checking for page-one-of-Google porn connections isn't the worst idea in the world? To be clear, the whole thing is simply amusing to us, no more no less. There's no lambasting and no one is outraged or offended. If this article upsets anyone then they're taking theme parks a lot more seriously than we do.2 points

You stated it had to be profitable at a minimum. Now you're asking why it wouldn't. This is entirely my point - HOW DO YOU KNOW? Answer is - you don't. And here's where paragraphs help you understand big boy conversation. First of all, you have staffing costs. Staff costs generally increase at a faster rate than hours worked due to overtime, union rules and industry award requirements. I'm not citing a specific park's bargaining agreement here, just speaking generally. Weekend casuals pick up some of the slack, but not always. There's lots of other little costs that crop up during night events that aren't present during the day. The park may need to bring in or install extra lighting if they haven't, or don't usually use that part of the park at night. Special merchandise (and flashy crap) plus people to sell it. Extra security, Extra cleaning, extra maintenance, extra wear and tear... and then there's hiring in additional staging, scaffolding, PA and lighting gear for the special event stages. But the biggest consideration by far is ride cost. Saying the energy cost is 'much less' because all the other rides aren't running is a bit misguided. Running the big 9 is the majority of your energy budget. Not running a chair swing isn't going to save you a lot of power when you're launching ToT's LIMs every few minutes. I can't quote you every ride cost, as I simply don't know - but I do know ToT goes for about $1500 an hour, and TailSpin at about $1500 for an hour and a half for private events. (And bear in mind staffing needs at private events might differ from a 'capacity' public night). Even if you assume a $1500 average (and i'm confident its far more) - 9 rides, running from 6:30pm to 10pm (3.5 hours) comes out a little over $47,000. I did a little googling and found the family christmas after dark event had tickets on sale from $29.99. That'd mean you'd need to sell 1575 tickets just to cover your basic ride costs. I found a groupon style website selling park after dark tickets to another event at just $10 on top of a regular ticket. At $10 entry, you'd need 5000 tickets sold to break even - and this is just break even ride costs... Park capacity is apparently 20,000 (which I find hard to believe), but general, full operation capacity, and night-time, reduced rides capacity is a very different thing. Cut out the wildlife area, Rocky Hollow, Wiggles World, Dreamworks Experience, and your park size is reduced substantially. You're basically trying to keep people in Ocean Parade, whilst allowing them access to giant drop and Mick Doohan - a heck of a long way from the rest of the entertainment - so let's say conservatively we stick with 10,000 capacity. There is the potential that up to half of your total capacity is eaten in just your ride cost, without factoring in food and beverage staff, merch, entertainment, hire costs and so on. Now, you'd hope that your food, and merch teams make a profit, but if people eat before they come, or aren't interested in flashy crap, you could potentially lose money - so thats always a risk. Bottom line is as I said before - they ran the ticket prices very lean, I presume, to attract more people to the park. Clearly the price point was too low, as they sold out and hit capacity - but what happened with the 26 May event? cancelled, and never rescheduled. If it's that profitable, why wouldn't you reschedule it? Having said all that, the park website does suggest Park After Dark will return in late 2018 - I presume for Christmas or Hallowe'en events - so I guess for now watch the website and await announcements...2 points

Volcano Bay Beach opening in December. Fingers crossed the budget holds out and we see the Volcano rockwork 'waterfall' come to fruition. Also some nice lush landscaping and private cabanas would be nice.2 points

Ok - I now count 9 replies all variously saying it can't, or why it can't. I think this has been answered thoroughly - can we close this thing off now?1 point

Lambasting : A Harsh Criticism. I'm sure that they went directly to their porn collection, and chose her name. Perhaps "dreamworld inadvertently chose a name remarkably similar to that of a porn star, most likely, without knowing it" would be a more fair, less harsh way of putting it? I tried replicating it on numerous browsers and devices, after someone else had twigged on to it and shared their findings, and I still didn't see it on my own device until I watched where you found the results on your recorded video. It's hard to see how they would have found it - especially since i could only replicate it on my phone, and these guys would likely have done any googling on their office computer. On the contrary, Parkz has a pretty twisted sense of humour, and we've seen that appear sometimes in the old and now rarely seen "parkz update" - where every second photo has a wry or hilarious dig at our parks. But you are correct - the Parkz News is typically all business, sharing news, providing facts and figures, stats and so on... so it is difficult to determine where humor is intended, and that may well be the problem. @Richard has told me previously of his desire to have both 'serious news' and 'hahaha, porn starz!' (ok, not that specific but you get the idea) and I had thought the intention was to have two different avenues (both published by Parkz) for this to be channeled. Right now its hard to work out whether we're watching ABC news, or Last Week Tonight with John Oliver... Clearly i'm not the only one that's taken issue here Rich. After the discussion in this thread I get the intention, but if i take a step back and pretend I haven't been here for 14 years, I feel like you've missed the mark here - which is rare. And maybe - its a good indicator that those things we discussed a while back about separate channels for comedy \ serious reporting is needed....?1 point

The thing is @Richardyou don't do funny well. 😊 I'm trying to recall when you’ve added humour to a Parkz News Story and I can’t. Joz talks and it’s hahahahaha it’s Joz here so it must be a funny joke. Richard talks, and I sit up, pull out my dictionary and calculator. You can’t put it on the reader to decided if you’re joking or not. I’ve read it over and over and over and I can’t find where you point out you're joking. Small subtly jokes are useless unless you tell us you're joking.1 point

Jeez your a bit defensive about your paragraphs. And the iride vid was in portrait because that’s the only way I could film over the barricade.1 point

Nothing to see here. Richard didn't invent backpedaling, it's been around forever.😂1 point

Latest update: ii) Australian Theme Parks The key focus is on driving attendance back to historic levels through a combinationof “smart” capital investment, an event pipeline, developing new and unique attractions and food, retail and events products all of which provide opportunities to promote and target revisitation. Investments will be targeted to drive visitation and will be economically responsible. This includes plans to install major new attractions at Dreamworld and SkyPoint in FY19 to increase visitations to the Theme Parks and drive average spending. The excess land that sits around the Dreamworld site is potentially of value. The park occupies just over 50% of the land that is owned and a process of determining the best use of this land is in progress. This may include a build out of tourist related adjacencies around the park itself. The plan may also involve anelement of other commercial and residential uses.1 point

If they need help with ride signage, I know a guy... Are you sure? "Many" as in, many people on Parkz? Or "Many" as in "many" general punters. Because i'll be honest - i don't even think many on Parkz remember that in that much detail - I knew MDMC had VR trialled, but I never knew it had a name... I'm curious as to how many of her supposed 92 titles the mod team at Parkz went through before deciding to lead with that one... Funny as it is, this story is a little more low brow than usual Parkz standards... I don't really think you're being fair here. Sure - getting the right combination into google produced a porn star. hahahah thats funny! make fun of Dreamworld everyone! The problem here is that everything else is so particular when it comes to trademark. As Parkz rightly points out at the start of the article, the name registered is SkyRyder. No space, uppercase R. The google search you did was "Sky Ryder" with a space. When I click your link, all the results I get are for the Ryder cup golf tournament (on Sky Sports channel). Interestingly enough, and again on YOUR google search link, the front page also links to the Sky Ryder zipline at 'The Waterfront, Okoboji (that's in Iowa). Nothing on this first page of results returns a porn star for me - and that's with 'safe search' switched off. As a matter of fact, try as I might, I can't get google to bring that particular personality up without spelling her name correctly... with an 'e'. When I try googling the actual registered trademark "SkyRyder" without a space, the results returned include a Metal band by that name... but even in that search, google assumes I spelled it incorrectly, and suggests "SkyRider" which - when you click through, then links to the Sky Rider at Luna Park Melbourne. As easily as I could have - with safe search off, and using your search terms, I still couldn't find it without the 'e'. I'm sorry guys - but i think you really missed the mark this time.1 point
