The idea of an impressive show has only died for those who look at the money. The problem with both Ardent and Village is you have bean counters calling the shots, and there is no one creative directing the show. Just because HSD is 10 times cheaper to run than a proper stunt show like PASS doesn't mean that should be the reasoning that they go the cheap route. At Dreamworld, yes running a Steam Train is more expensive than running the diesel that replaced it (and no we won't go into that one finance wise), but someone who was thinking about the park and guest experience wouldn't have let it happen, not just because of the history behind the trains, but the guest experience and value they added to said experience. This is the problem with the Australian industry at the moment, TRR is just a scape goat that Ardent and Village are using.9 points

Dropped by LPS on Monday afternoon to check on the progress of Volare. Took these pics from the elevated green area on top of the carpark directly next to the Helter Skelter Cafe. Not a lot has changed , although you can see the framework for the rides base being built underneath. This is certainly going to be the best position for this ride in the park and having it elevated like this will certainly make for an great experience. The recently installed Light House is looking excellent and blends in well with the minarets of Coney Island in the back of the park. Nice. As nice as this area on top of the carpark currently is, I still maintain that it is an underutilised part of the park. If there was a way to connect this are to the midway below ( via a stairwell or rampway) then this area could be used in a far more utilitarian way. Given the weight of soil, turf and plant equipment that this site currently holds, I dont think weight would necessarily be an overiding issue, depending of course on what you wanted to place on the site! Looking forward to seeing the Volare construction continue apace!!! Keep those pics and updates coming!!5 points

Agreed. I also have no problem with people just reporting it in a thread, so when it gets to be two months later and a ride is still closed daily it is clearly known when it started. If you don't like the thread don't read it and don't comment on every post. Simple.5 points

I just want to reiterate my support for this word being passed into the site dictionary (like SBNO)5 points

Definitely worth considering that our parks have gone through what Craig Davidson (former CEO of Dreamworld Ardent Leisure Theme Parks & Attractions Division) would describe roughly as a "once in... history sort of thing." There's been more rides down for extended periods of time from both Village & Ardent than any other time previously. Suffice to say, once when Sidewinder pops out of unexpected, extended annual maintenance, I think that'll be the last of this frustrating out of the blue maintenance. With that in mind, there's probably not enough to justify specific ride threads about maintenance, but maybe "just" enough for a pinned thread about Movie World & Dreamworld with the rest lopped into a general maintenance thread. At the end of the day, i'd just like the parks to be accountable - the days where you get to do dodgy stuff and think no one's watching are over.4 points

@AlexB I disagree with the assertion that the timing of the event in the same month as Halloween is an important motivating factor for why people go to Fright Nights at MW. Halloween isn't Christmas, you can do scary stuff whenever you like. Scary movies come out year round, haunt style attractions operate and tour year round. If it makes more sense for ticketing and weather reasons to do a scary event in Feb or March, then there really isn't a good reason not to. Equally if you're doing a Carnivale event it doesn't have to be at the same time of year as Rio Carnival or Mardi Gras. Hold the event when it makes sense, and it makes way more sense for Adventure World to hold this event in Feb/March.2 points

Because it's hard to build up momentum to sell tickets at during the off season. How important is Halloween to Fright Nights at MW anyway? Never see it referenced. I bet most people who go to Fright Nights don't make the connection that Halloween is on the 31st and that's why MW is doing a scary event during October. So why not do it in Feb? When you do it literally doesn't matter so long as it's good.2 points

My bad. Dark Shooter. I think that was the point - nobody is riding it. The whole area of Doomsday is good - but for someone unfamiliar with the precinct - finding the entrance is. fucking. painful. Much as I love the series, and the show, I don't think PASS is appropriate to modern audiences. Hell - a lot of stunt shows are falling out of favor. Unfortunately, the quality of show at VRTP has croaked.2 points

No point in opening something that ended up costing almost $27 million? That’d be incredibly stupid even for DW.2 points

Doomsday and great operations should not be used in the same sentence...Just saying2 points

I think you never see it referenced anymore because it's regarded as redundant and unnecessary. It used to be marketed as a 'Halloween event' (reference to a 'halloween event' in this media analysis from around 2013-2014) This vlogger uses halloween in the video title referencing a fright nights event, and the comments include things like "i'm going this year for halloween" Overseas, (which i'm sure many here would agree is the inspiration for such an event in the first place), the parks all do it "for" halloween, and many of their events include 'halloween' in the name. Its also probably indicative that the intention is to associate it with halloween simply because it (and several other events around the country) are all timed to occur on, or around 31 October. I'd argue many people connect fright nights to halloween, given the multiple years worth of effort MW has put in to building such a horror and scare themed event in that manner. No. Pretty sure @Tim Dasco or @iwerks can confirm, given their conversations with the GM, but Perth seems to have terrible weather around October, and many events around then are impacted - so the move to Feb\Mar is to have 'better weather' for the event.1 point

In a board meeting... DW CEO: “we sure got that Brogent mob good! They agreed to let us pay off Sky Voyager over 6 years! Chumps! We’ll run this place into the ground and be closed in 2! Suckers! ”1 point

I'd add that the night temperatures in Feb are much warmer and allow visitors to use the water slides all night. Personally, I really enjoy riding both dry and wet rides after dusk. It's definitely a different experience.1 point

Up to now I've had the opinion that the later than expected opening of SkyVoyager was ok, on the basis that the important thing is that it's a safe and polished experience when it does. But given we were told multiple times by several Dreamworld sources (on and offline) that it would open either on Boxing Day or not long after, and yet it's now mid February and there's still no confirmed opening date or any explanation of what's going on, I now have to say my patience has run out! I realise technical things can happen which can sometimes be hard to predict, but it's now beyond a joke. That coupled with the very misleading marketing implying it was open when it wasn't, and the complete lack of any honest communication as to what's going on, has in my opinion done a lot of damage to Dreamworlds already very badly damaged reputation. So sad.1 point

They wouldn’t bother updating the maintenance page for today if it was actually only for today. It was not also posted at all prior to closing. From the past, this can go on for months. I would say it’s worth reporting on.1 point

If you're going to put a flat ride into MW in Lethal courtyard you're best off with something pretty small. Something like a breakdance but less of a tripping hazard to load is about right. Really though, how long does AA have left? 10 years? Maybe? In that case I'd leave that part of the park as is until AA goes and the whole area comes up for redevelopment. In the meantime a redone kids area, new Stunt Show and smaller additions would probably see the park through pretty good. Theres also the flat ride pad in the middle of Superman's heilex to consider.1 point
