After Outback Splash’s post yesterday, I was keen to get up to the park and check things out. @Tim Dasco also managed to meet us for lunch and go exploring. Luckily for us, they had their slide bits littered all over the place, in plain sight. It’d been awhile since Tim had been there and he really noticed how faded the original water playground is. The park was really quiet, despite the beautiful weather.

I think that’s a really positive sign if Greg Yong’s gone there. Surely, he’d be going there on the promise of having some capex to spend and would be keen to make his mark. Isn’t this what we’ve been saying all along - hire someone with theme park experience?

I mean you’ve had Greg now in there running the place for what? Two weeks?? And we already see a decent event announced. Given he was one of the major driving forces behind how much Fright Nights has grown, could this be the beginning of some solid night even offerings at Dreamworld?

This from Outback Splash, today. I did visit before the waterpark it closed at the end of the school holidays, but there wasn’t too much to see. They were building a trench for the new gate area. They also had lots of pipes and had some rebar in for the foundation of the slides.

Another visit to Outback Splash, today. It was 30 degree weather with moderate crowds enjoying a splash on the slides. The large inflatable slide has been moved from the back right of the water playgrounds to the back left. It seems that the ground works are going in close to the previous position, close to the work sheds nearby. The most surprising news is that the emus have moved in with the kangaroos and the whole back half of their paddock has gone. It has been expanded to include more of the pine tree area near the hedge maze. It seems they’re getting ready for the construction of their brand new entrance way. Despite its very Aussie theming, I think it will make the place feel more like a theme park. Exciting times...
