  2. I think a 50th event would have been great. BUT... With the timeline for new Atlantis slipping, you're now in a situation at SW that as well as Viking's, you now have Monorail and Leviathan as SBNO rides. I don't think now is a great time to hold such an event where the park to casual guests looks worse than it ever has (despite an upwards trajectory). I don't think that's why Village didn't do a 50th event, but I also don't think it's a great idea to do a big marketing push before the park is ready for it. Also quick aside: the ski pyramid used to depart from the ski dock, you could totally do one with the lake in its current configuration.
  3. Here’s a couple of screenshots from the video of areas not yet photographed/seen
  4. At least with a 50 year pass you might get a chance of riding leviathan without having to renew your pass
  5. Still hoping they refurbish Vikings Revenge, it's the family ride with a bit of a thrill that the park could really use for it's lineup and of course it'd be a lot cheaper to fix up Vikings Revenge than to demolish and put in a new ride.
  6. God I miss Bermuda Triangle
  7. IAAPA held its first tradeshow in almost two years last week in Barcelona. Expo Europe 2021 boasted 439 exhibiting companies. More than 8,500 participants attended the event, a little more than half the 2019 figure (15,900 attendees in Paris) Attending all 3 days of the tradeshow, I certainly noticed a comprehensive set of health protocols in place to adapt to the Covid-19 situation. Seats were set apart by at least 1 meter during conferences. Everyone except for presenters on stage was required to wear masks. Vaccination or a negative Covid test was also mandatory to attend, with staff conducting temperature checks at the entrance of the Conference Hall. Some photos of the trade floor: The educational programme offered several new developments, such as a panel discussion on inclusivity (featuring Mack Rides' Chief Sales Officer Thorsten Koebele) and... a marketing session on how to best use TikTok! Also new for 2021 was the Sustainability Day in collaboration with PortAventura. IAAPA certainly appears to keep out for societal and marketing trends. Plopsaland' Marketing Manager Charlotte Depuydt offered her insight on the new opportunities TikTok offers. Last but not least, I had the priviledge to interview yet again Sascha Czibulka and Daniel Schoppen, respectively Executive Vice-President and Vice-President Design & Development of Intamin. Both offered comments talking us through the process of designing Hot Racer and Kondaa among several highlight projects. "Big Dipper is a good showcase for our Hot Racer product. [...] We learned very quickly what were the limitations [of this model] because the geometrical boundaries of this area have pushed us completely into these limitations checks" explains M. Schoppen. Full video interview coming later this month!
  8. Wow. Takes a good layout to an excellent one. There isn't a dull moment from start to finish and it doesn't appear to be overwhelmingly nauseating like I expected it to be. Good play by DW.
  9. I think the biggest issue with VRTP and celebrating the 50th anniversary is at this current moment in time it feels like even they don't know what the park is today or it's trajectory past the next 6 months. Will it settle in as the family park of the chain, how many thrill seekers will it pull over from MW with their 3 new rides and how will those crowds settle once the initial hype wears down sort of thing. I wouldn't be surprised if when everything is done they tied a "50th Birthday Celebration" into the New Atlantis official opening period. Disney is currently showing us you can celebrate a 50th for 18th months and it's fine.
  10. Is that the only part of my post you read? The next sentence literally explains that I'm talking about people in general who ask for those rides to be "brought back" and what they generally mean by that (bring back a modern version of that ride)
  11. You're right. You said replica. Them your words. Vikings made use of the land available at the time, and the castle. It was then integrated into Bermuda because it was already there and removing it was stupid. If Skyway was still standing in it's original install configuration, I couldn't call it terrible - it's better than no skyway at all. They've done zero worthy alterations to the land the skyway occupied. So skyway wasn't terrible. I wouldn't advocate for them to bring it back in the same configuration. Nor would I ask them to do that with Log Flume (although it has been said that the trough is most likely in reasonable condition and all it would need is new boats which is a damn sight cheaper than building a whole new log flume from scratch.) Pirate was meh. it was good because it didn't invert and that let the more easily intimidated visitors give a swinging ship a try without worrying about the 'upside down' part like Bounty's revenge always had. I'd like for them to install a modern ride of similar experience - take a look at Luna Park Sydney's new lineup for some inspirations. Bottom line - if all three of those attractions still operated today in their 'of the time' configuration, I wouldn't be upset. None of their footprints have been taken over by any new installation, and they could coexist happily in the parks line-up which would, overall, improve a guest's experience simply by volume alone. BUT since all of them HAVE been removed, they should bring a modern simile to the park that offers a similar ride type or experience, but with improvements or advancements on the tech of the 80s to keep current with today's trends and systems.
  12. For mine, I can't say Skyway was terrible - but I also can't say i've been on it more than once, mainly due to insanely long queues, mainly due to insanely crappy capacity and operations. Fixed gondolas, stopping the drive rope to loading and unloading, suspending guests in the middle of the course overhead the dolphin pools - all up it wasn't very good. A continuous load system - even one as old and cruddy as Wonderland's Skyrider would have been a better system simply because you can load as fast as guests can board. I do think Sea World's system was bound to go, simply because they were open cabins in this modern safety conscious world. The view from the attraction was the main drawcard, and a replacement with improved operations and safety systems would be welcomed, but probably yawned at by the vast majority, hence why we've got three thrill rides in Atlantis without a replacement for our family log flume.
  13. I'm not even sure they could do the Ski Pyramid with the current lake size - they used to set it up down the 'river' near the pirate ship and appear to the stadium already set up. Of course they could pull it off (if they had the skilled and talented skiiers) but the setup would be in full view of the crowd. I do agree a 51st would be understandable and worthy of a bigger celebration at a better time. Hopefully they think that is a good idea.
  14. I actually just think it should be as simple as a different / additional lake show, like a "through the years" show, performing the iconic acts. Even incorporating Thunder Lake Boat/Truck since its garnered a lot of attention both nationally and online internationally. (I see gifs/videos appear on Reddits front page occationally) If they wanted more effort, then maybe a an original/different/varied seal and/or dolphin show since they more or less still do the same performance, just a different story and in a different order. And also, its completely understandable if they celebrate its 51st birthday too. I feel the world is aware of the effect COVID has had and will get onboard if marketed correctly. I'm no marketing expert but playing off the fact SW along with many other people had to postpone milestones like birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, birts ect..
  15. I think you're on the money to some degree. It smells like an after thought to me, personally. Just ticking the box really.
  16. I think the difference is, Hooray was planned when borders were open, and although things timed poorly with it's premiere, it had mild successes. Sea World on the other hand turns 50 while borders are still shut - and there's probably a lot of apathy at VRTP about planning more events (outside the usual) until things return to BAU. They should be running fright nights now and they aren't - so Spooky Nights is already a risky endeavour - Plus they'll now be outside school holidays - so everything points to 'unlikely' but it is a shame they didn't put on something special.
  17. And chairlift, Vikings Revenge, Pirate Ship etc. etc.
  18. and once again....only ONE PASS holders are eligible to win the prize, not membership holders
  19. The other bonus was you could pay on your phone, meaning the 'end of time' split bill scenario was much easier as everyone paying separately only had to pay their 'share' of the bay cost, rather than working out who ate what and how many beers each person had etc.
  20. Those “bolts” or up stop bolts were commonly referred to as “mushroom bolts” thanks to their shape. The wheels only help during the corners to keep the speed up and also to balance the carriage. The Mushroom bolts do all the hard work.
  21. Are we naming how many bad rides they can fit into one theme park?
  22. I never said I wanted a replica, nor did I actually say the word replica at any point. You assumed my opinion in the previous thread purely because I enquired about your opinion in good faith. You've then used your assumed opinion as a defence. Ironically, you've gone on a rampage when folks have pointed out you actually said the thing you keep saying you didn't say, and shifted the goal posts to try and defend your stance. Sounds like you've got more of a problem with me than my opinion. That's fine, either way, i'd encourage everyone to better use their time by engaging in opinion not semantics and trying to understand and respect opinions instead of outright cutting other members down purely because you have a different opinion. Remember, opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. I'd love to see the idea of a chairlift make a return. The views of the endeavour ship, the ski shows, the rides and the dolphin nursery were ace. As @New display name suggested, it'd be pretty silly to build a replica - it'd be like re-building the Thunderbolt in 2021 for some nostalgia wank-fest. I don't even know why anyone would think to build a replica - why rebuild old when you can build new stuff that's better? The Pirate Ship was a great filler flat ride that families could enjoy together. Viking's Revenge was the same deal.
  23. Oh my god, can nobody read. "If SW was to announce a replica Skyway to build tomorrow, the only person that would be happy with it, would be Slick". Slick wants the replica, NOT ME!
  24. Nobody said identical. Them your words. Not a replica @MrLukeCarroll Viking's revenge was one of the most boring Flumes in the world.
  25. Sardines in a can isn't my idea of fun. I'm all for chairlifts, just not a bad one.
