  1. But then what should a theme park be? Disneyland has Dumbo's flying elephants, and Astro Orbiters.... Every park needs to have it's signature blockbuster attractions, but a park simply can't be viable if it ONLY has blockbusters. This is the reason why Movie World is regarded by most as not being a full day park - it has (for the most part) a series of blockbuster attractions (coaster, dark ride, space shot, coaster, coaster, dark coaster, flume, stunt show, parade... Apart from Batwing - what else do they have to tie it all together? We collectively refer to most flats as spin-n-spew because thats the sensation you get from most flat rides - thrown around in one of several directions, to the possible nauseating outcome that your stomach doesn't like... but without them - a park is incomplete.
  2. I think Westical and Pin must be uploading pics direct to the site or something - I can't see reanimated's images - they all just come up as a red X - are they hotlinked from another site or something?

  4. ^Several people have suggested there is enough Wi-Fi around the park after you agree to the T&Cs, and I presume it is established for just that purpose. How reliable it is, and whether your phone will constantly be switching between 4G and hotspots... who knows.
  5. Yeah - I used Rollback as everyone would know what I meant by it - but yeah it's probably not the right word Skeet. Realistically - a rope winch with a rescue sling on it would have done the job... and you leave the water on to lubricate the surface... Getting stuck at the top would be a feat though. Either that thing had pressure up the wazoo, or there was some sort of drain in the valley...
  6. I think as a video though, the camera needs to be mounted above the head, angled down, so that you can see the distance from the ground. A close-up shot of the rider will show the gravity drop reaction, but other than that its about 90 seconds of them sitting in a chair with a harness on. Ideally - they need a camera mounted on each harness, with a fish-eye lens so that they fit you and the ground below in the shot. Judging by the info so far, they're mounting it above the car, so it's probably more in line with batwing - one camera for the gondola (although with GD, they'll probably need a good fisheye lens to capture the whole gondola at once so the ground will be in shot anyway) I don't think a camera mounted forward would be an issue for the view (cameras aren't very big these days - they aren't going to block much of the view), but I can't see how they'd do that when the load station is so tightly built around it - overhead and right above is probably the most likely.
  7. See I really don't get it - here we have graphics the equivalent of Warcraft 1 (no younglings - not World of Warcraft - Warcraft released 1994). Surely No Limits, or RCT3 shits all over this... and if so - where is the attraction in using something not even built for purpose?
  8. It is - or rather it was. From the news article I read yesterday, it operated for about a month. Too many people were injured. I'm quite curious over how they evacuated the slide in case of rollback. It doesn't look like there is a door in the valley. Perhaps they lowered a rope? lol.
  9. i must admit - Batwing's footage never interested me in the slightest... but Giant Drop - that would be something.
  10. On the topic of doing homework - I found this on google maps in about 3.5 seconds... As you can clearly see - the 'murrisippi river' is nothing but a lake with two islands in it. In other news - golf courses don't just have ponds: So no Downunder - you're not wrong. (And neither was Gazza).
  11. I would like to see Dreamworld do something really unique, but i don't think this is a fair comment. There are MANY examples of rides in parks that are both travelling fairground and park-permanent models. Spooty spin avalanche... Tasmanian Devil (wonderland) vs. Thunderbolt Alpine Bobs... Waveswingers... Topspins... they did a great job with Wipeout... wait and see how they do it first...
  12. Here are the two comparisons: You can see the logo has just had a lick of paint. Over at ocean parade - they have removed some elements - like the beach ball, but overall, a repaint is the only change here. And while i've been uploading, downunder answered both.... here are the comparisons anyway!
  13. Were they the ones with two heads? lol. How did you know they were all Victorian? (i'm not doubting what you're saying - just curious how you knew?)
  14. Nice shots! I'll see if i can put the old logo up against the new one for a comparison... The ocean parade one looks like it's had a paint, but doesn't look 'new'... With the 'Big 9' do we have a 'site shot' to show this slab in relation to the rest of the site - ie: does the footer give us an idea of what ride it will be? With the movie - looks like it might be the new 'how to train your dragon 2' ?
  15. those nozzles actually look like they're pointing 'up' - perhaps they're raining 'off' the tip of the wave, instead of just a waterfall down the face of it (that would look awesome.
  16. I'm inclined to think they would have made a little money out of the wet n wild deal - VRTP would have paid the owners a fee to have the 'option' to buy, conditional on the approvals. Pretty sure the AW owners get to keep that fee if the deal falls through (which it did) so it might have made a nice little capital injection for them, for really not much effort. (this is all speculation on my part - I have no insider knowledge of this arrangement). I'd like to think of AW at the moment as a very very long freight train. At the start, the loco pulls against all the carriages without much effect, but now that they're starting to build up a little steam and a little momentum, it's just going to result in exponential growth. Maybe the Sunshine coast needs a few extra parks to compete with the gold coast?
  17. To be fair the camera is mounted right at the front (and it appears to be mounted high up too) so it probably is missing all the spray that will get you in the face. We need a shot with a wide angle lens so you can really see the depth of the drop. The sides of the slide here are too high to really give a full impression of the scale of this ride... or the speed.
  18. Yup. It's getting to the point that it's actually shorter waiting times between Xmas and NYE because they have maxed staffing and all rides up. VIP expiry time is low season, and they're not catering to the demand despite several years telling them they need to.
  19. Illusiorium... I'm pretty certain Tony is out of the 'in-house magic show' game - but it would be awesome if these guys brought in a resident illusion show, similar to millennium magic spellbinding sorcery, with all the trimmings.
  20. This is a big step up for such a little park and really shows they want to play with the big boys. With the rumored new rides on the way (as well as the ones we already know about) AW is well on it's way to becoming an awesome (not so) little park. I think they're still a while away from anything like Abyss, but I don't think it'll take that long.
  21. ^See - i continuously see that as a missed opportunity. They go to such efforts to apply a consistent effort across the entire park - but no attempt is made to do an overlay on Scoob... or SE. I can't off the top of my head think of anything specific.... they could for example have a three-headed carnivale jester head pop out of the box instead of the wolfman in the 'ghost train' section of scooby... Just a little touch or two here and there to make it 'something different' so people will want to ride it. This is not to say that everything they have done isn't already spectacular... but for the reasons you've said - why would you want to ride soemthing where you can get the exact same experience any other day of the week?
  22. *Groan* Why do people feel compelled to use filters on everything? It's not the edit that you did... it's the edit that instagram did... #justsayin
  23. Asshoke... That's a Donkep of a word.
