Thanks for the correction - I was going off the pass dates for last season on their website which shows the season opening on the 9th of December and closing on the 19th of April. I can see in the operating calendar that they're open for about 4 weeks over the September holidays and then revert to weekend trade until December 11th. It does however amplify the ridiculousness of the argument that WnWGC should close now.

You mean like they announced Carnivale wouldn't return next year after it had finished this year? You're a mental case. They're only just now making the decisions, and we're mostly clear of winter already. WWW doesn't open until December, but we're essentially at the halfway point of their seasonal closure. It wouldn't make sense to shut the park down now - there's a lot of things like maintenance planning that has to change, supplies and parts to order to get maintenance done in an off season. Plus you need to figure out what to do with your staff. All of this takes time, and kneejerking a shutdown could cost more money than continuing the current season. Some people just don't get it. It still says "12 months entry to Whitewaterworld" on the Dreamworld annual pass too - though you can find 'seasonal' elsewhere. It didn't stop them from cancelling Carnivale and issuing ticket holders a small compensation either - so it won't stop them deciding to close WNW seasonally next season any more than it stops them from running carnivale, or providing a lake show in sea world, or anything else. Saying "they won't do that because they should have done it sooner" is ridiculous.

When WNW GC goes to seasonal operations (let's face it, the way village is cutting costs, I can't see them keeping it open next winter), I'll be the first in line to buy tickets to watch you eat crow.

Wasn't thunder lake put together by the ShowTime guys the same as HWSD2? Seems just like it's end of contract and it wasn't renewed, rather than being specifically cut.... Let's face it, the company has been rocked by embezzlement issues, they're looking to tighten belts. I don't think this is the end of SW lake shows, they just have other things to focus on right now.

Previous one was only 500kVA, this one is 1500kVA, so they've tripled the capacity of the transformer - this does point to a much higher power demand in the area, which would tend to confirm the launch upgrades. I do hope they theme this box so it blends into the area like they did the last one.

My take is the 2022 works, they set it up to be upgraded, but then the extra expenses kept being put off for other reasons. Changing events - such as dropping carnivale, or cutting back on superheroes - these things aren't necessarily assets of value when it comes to selling the business. WWF having a 'to-do list' doesn't look good on the for sale sign - so polishing up the assets you want someone to consider valuable at time of sale maximises your return. Spending extra money on entertainment isn't going to make a huge difference at point of sale, unless it boosts your balance sheet. Fright nights does - given it charges admission for each entry - but included events don't.

It was quite the discussion on Parkz back in 2022. Essentially, Dreamworld under its prior leadership had obtained a grant which was provided by government on the basis that dreamworld was intending to build a koala research centre \ advanced eco-science facility - It was called Future Lab when it was announced in 2019. Then COVID came along and businesses were focussed more on survival than eco tourism. The park pivoted and finally recognised that a koala facility wasn't going to help with their recovery, but a shiny new rollercoaster would. In 2022, while we were still within the late-stages of COVID recovery, the park sought permission from the government to reallocate the grant funds from building Future Lab to assist them in the costs to build Steel Taipan. The government approved this, so they did. What the greenies didn't get is DWF does a lot for wildlife education and conservation, and going out of business entirely tends to put an end to that good work.

I don't think moving a food outlet out of a high traffic area and into a dead zone is the right idea. A food outlet isn't going to pull people into an area that already has 'not much going on'. Especially not for theme park hot dogs when you'd have to walk past Barrels to get there. I agree thematically it isn't a great fit outside the claw, but that is where it's been for a long time. thematically it doesn't really fit anywhere in a modern dreamworld so i'm really surprised they brought it back. My guess is, they needed extra food capacity to take some load away from Food Central, and it's only temporary.

Maybe, or maybe a re-valuation of their assets increases their borrowing capacity.

We meet that criteria, still no email. In previous experience, links are not tied directly to individual passes. The current passes I have are from someone else's link because they received a better offer to their email than I could get online. Also, you wouldn't need to enter your pass barcode numbers to purchase otherwise... Would be great if someone could share the link. If we wait for Village to do it it'll be Christmas.

For me, I want to say that this is all part of the plan. It is generating buzz, and drip-feeding the release to keep the conversation going - a few months back we got the screen caps from the ad showing the artists impressions, now we have the name registrations. Dreamworld management must know by now that the second they lodge a trademark, we're going to know. From memory someone identified them on Parkz with both Taipan and Jungle Rush pretty quickly. So either they file a few names at the same time to throw us off the scent or introduce a few red herrings to keep us guessing, or they do one, and then play it up... "whoopsie, we, the big multi-million dollar professional operation didn't mean to let that name slip! PLEASE don't tell anyone! Shhhhh!!!!!!" If it's intentional, it's brilliant fucking marketing. And if it was accidental - they're very slow learners. You can't expect public records to stay secrets. You just need to manage them the right way. As for 'social media influencers' or 'pages' - I know there's some independent operators out there that do not take any perks from parks and maintain their integrity, and speak freely. I know others that lap up everything a park offers them and won't say a negative word about them lest they damage the relationship. And I know others still that will maintain mostly independence but will take each situation case-by-case - which is I assume Ogre's situation here. As long as a content producer is honest with their position, I don't see an issue with any of the above. I don't care if you're getting a freebie from a park - you've put the work in to get that sort of following, and it's not really any different to what a park provides mainstream media journalists to promote their products - so why shouldn't you be able to accept a few perks from the parks you cover if it fits with how you want to manage your following. As long as you disclose the quid pro quo. If you wouldn't feel comfortable having your name published in a newspaper because of the expensive item you got from the park, and you would go so far as to petition a court to suppress your name from official proceedings, you probably shouldn't have taken the expensive item.

Assume this will be sent to all eventually. My pass was purchased with Carnivale as an inclusion, but the pass wasn't activated until after Carnivale had finished this year - so should qualify, but so far no email. It's good to know they are at least conscious of the impacts to passholders and are actively seeking to offer an alternative. This is higher than my usual expectations from Village - but it still should have been communicated to affected parties before (or at least at the same time) they scrubbed the website and got noticed by a bunch of thoosies.

The online pictures I saw speculated the same thing. I think that's likely, if there's nothing wrong with the ride, it's costing them a lot to keep it closed for theming issues. Plus the restaurant is likely closed too if that's the case given the main pathway proximity to the building.

This was post TRRR, but not post-inquest, so the inherent flaws in 'administrative controls' hadn't been exposed yet. The procedure that these operators are accused of not following would be the controls put in place as a 'permanent solution' rather than have the slide PLC reprogrammed to prevent it An administrative control is a management-directed measure designed to reduce the risk of a hazard by changing how or when people perform their tasks. Rather than removing the hazard or providing physical barriers, these controls minimize exposure through rules, policies, schedules, and training The TRRR inquest made it very clear that administrative controls were a last resort, and never to be relied on if other methods are possible.

There's plenty of information on social media if you really want to figure out what's what too. I'm just suggesting caution until things are more progressed.

Let's just keep in mind that nobody else has been named in the current embezzlement clusterfuck, and Bikash left the company of his own accord a year earlier. I am far from his greatest fan - but I dislike the court of public opinion making a finding of fact out of thin air. Inferences that any member of the village team is involved should be considered very carefully until they are publicly named by lawsuits or the company - and remember that everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

In fairness, "728 incidents" to me is just saying there were 728 occasions where someone didn't make it through the loop. That isn't a 'near miss' IMO - though in retrospect, this incident could have occurred on any of them if staff didn't follow procedures. The slides were problematic from day one, with rash shirts causing issues, backpack boards needing to be worn, and strict minimum and maximum weight limits. There are many potential reasons someone doesn't make it through the loop, and 728 sounds big, but ends up being about 3 per hour. Theoretical capacity for an aqualoop is 120pph. I call serious bullshit - especially with village operations, but even a quarter of that (which would be a dispatch every 2 minutes) - 30pph still gives you 120pph across the four slides. 3 out of 120 is only a 2.5% failure rate, which isn't anything that needs attention as long as safety procedures are fail-safe (which as we now know - they weren't - but at the time, it didn't warrant any attention).

Are you sure about this one? He doesn't list it on his website (michaelcroaker.com), and PASS opened with the park in 1991. I know he was at Wonderland in the late 90's and early 2000s. I know he joined WB in 2004-05 after Wonderland closed, but I think he worked as a show host in Sea World when he was younger too - I can't say for certain whether he was or was not a part of the PASS cast at some point, I'm pretty confident he wasn't "behind" it. I saw him walking the park with a bunch of suits a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if those conversations were going on back then? It certainly seems a bit like a changing of the old guard. 'Froggy' certainly had a knack for entertainment. You could see his touch reflected in entertainment offerings across Wonderland, Sea World and Movie World. I can't say I always agreed with some of the creative choices at Village - but nobody else could match his passion for 'the show'. I won't speculate as to motivation or reason, but I hope BGH has a good plan for who will take over this mammoth entertainment responsibility.
