Wizard of Oz - Movie World Arkham Asylum Replacement

There is no way the IP cost more than the hardware.

To add isn’t the rights to the film owned by Warner themselves anyway?

Wouldn’t this be covered in the royalties/licensing deal Village already have with Warner for their brand name plus IP like DC, looney tunes, and scooby-doo or at most renegotiated to include Oz?

Its turner. And village dont have any ties to warner bros anymore, not even as a film distributor, so they pay for everything. You dont get all your characters in a packaged deal. You generally have contracts and agreements for everyone you licence. Usually image rights and the ability to have the characters in your park can be seperate from merchandising rights too. So agreements might end/come up for renewal at different times for different characters (or groups of) vs a blanket agreement to use any of a studios IP.

Maloneys videos are good, and he is on point with this. As everyone has stated, something fell short in regards to the theming etc, they didn’t let the theming company has full access/budget to do this place justice.

Didnt realise Arkham theming was still visible in the area which is crazy. The panic was real when Dreamworld announced a soft opening.

How does JR get a pass with "it ran out of time and there is more to come" and WOZ doesn't.  I never get this pick side mentality.   90% of it has to be coming from people who work at the parks right?

Only thing I can point to is that DW have been upfront about saying 'there's more' whereas MW haven't said diddly and just went 'it's open!'

It's all about communication. Dreamworld are pretty open about things, and Village keeps things tightly to their chest.

People were also happy with JR and the themeing prior to DW coming out being like "oh theres more to come"

Probably because JR looks finished. Even if they hadn’t of added what they have since opening day, and continue to add, it was still a well themed immersive attraction. What they are adding now just elevates it further.

WoZ isn’t immersive once you step outside that internal queue area. And let’s be frank, it never will be. VTP isn’t going to put millions retrospectively into adding theming to the ride envelopes and surrounds. The most we can ever hope for is some shade sails.

@New display name that’s (one) of the biggest issues with Village, no transparency about anything. And I don’t think at any point they’ve said there is more to come, they said it was officially open (with 14hrs notice) and that’s it. I think a lot of visitors/enthusiasts have said they hope there is more to come, but I honestly think what we see is what we’re getting. They might add some world class shade sails over some of the queues, but that’s about it.

Dreamworld have openly said there is more to come because it was all planned to be ready for opening day, but unfortunately due to shipping delays and quality issues some of it wasn’t ready. So they said here it is, it’s officially open, but this isn’t the final product and it’s going to get even better over the next few months as new pieces arrive and are installed.

Does rivertown have shade and places for someone to have a sit down at?

Much easier to call WOZ incomplete when village decided it was a good idea to open the land with sections of queue in complete exposure to the sun without fans or shade and with nowhere to sit down after lining up over an hour for 1 ride

Theming is theming but it’s mind boggling Village thought guests would be fine in a slow moving queue exposed to the Queensland heat with nothing to cool them off. How does that pass OH&S? To be quite frank they’re very lucky no one needed an ambulance called.

Cut village some slack they didn’t even acknowledge the existence of DC rivals until it nearly finished construction

They’re still trying to get to the “Let’s announce an opening date to get people excited for our new ride” stage of being a world class theme park business

Rivertown doesn't have many shaded places, but has a lot of themed seating and bins placed around the area. Which make sense since shades might block the sightlines for the area if not placed down correctly.
As well, due to the very small area, there isn't any water fountains installed in the land. Closest to getting water without going to the resturant is by getting water at one of the food courts (which they only serve tap water?) or getting water from the Giftshop. (I kinda wish we had cooled water ready IN the land itself, but oh well.)

My bottom line is, Rivertown looks like a finished land. Despite them adding more which is good but they should have been added before hand. The land is amazing, I do believe they focused in the end run on Jane’s restaurant. Oz looks bare, and as The Magician said, the socials from both parks are the opposite.

Dreamworld are constantly posting videos etc, closures, updates. When was the last time we heard about an update on Scooby Doo, or the Dooms day removal?
