  • Had 3 rides on this today.  What a unique experience.  Not too much snow down on the flats of Thredbo, but had some falling while riding this.  It is a fun coaster, just a pain when there is a slower

The post states: Construction is underway for the year-round alpine coaster, and it's set to open this winter! ❄️⛷ It will be 1.5km long, reaching speeds of up to 40km/h and riders will travel along

Here's a plan of the layout:

For scale you can see the original toboggan cut off on the right side of the image.

Also, TIL Stuart Diver is the GM of Thredbo.

That layout looks great very promising and a great location

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere else, but is anyone excited about an Alpine Coaster coming to Thredbo, or know any more details about its construction???

Interesting... If not a strange addition. Im surprised they got approved to build that in the national park. Also interesting that it's a year round coater. I always though most cosasters had a minimum operating temp (wheels, fluids etc) that would prevent it from operating in the winter...

Visually this seems to be a similar toboggan style system.

It will be 1.5km long, reaching speeds of up to 40km/h and riders will travel along a mix of uphill and downhill tracks featuring a tunnel, bridges and circles that traverse the alpine environment.

I'm honestly amazed that construction is this far along and we only just started talking about it this week...

Goes to show what can be done when your managing is actually competent & there’s a schedule to stick to.

I think you're reaching.

Don't misunderstand my comment - i'm surprised we haven't heard about it until now, not how fast they've built it.

This isn't something they've gotten done in a couple of weeks. Construction work has to have been going for quite some time to reach the stage they're at (probably since the thaw - maybe 6 months ago?) plus they're in their off season too.

Unfortunately nearmap doesn't cover thredbo village so its not something we can step back and look at.

Defiantly looks like it would be worth a trip to ride it.

In defiance of what?

It's "only" 2.5 hours from Canberra, so yes I think a summer road trip visit is on the cards.
