Valid point but I’d reckon given there will be plenty of space around the park in the not too distant future you make the effort to switch things up rather than do like for like replacements.

Lantern will be the next to go, might come closer than one would think considering how problematic it is. That space could fit 2 flat rides - DC land sorely needs its filler and Vortex would be better suited to movie world’s needs. By comparison you have much more space to work with from doomsday out next to West for a future major in 6-7 years. Helps with guest flow a bit better not cramming all the majors at the front of the park and getting people out towards the back. You’ll need something to replace Lantern at the end of the day

Given they just spent a decent amount on Green Lantern doing upgrades to the evacuation system it's probably not going anywhere for a while still. Given that the park only has one flat ride (Batwing, and I guess Flash) the park really needs a few more. Pretty much every decent theme park has a decent variety of flat rides, water rides and coasters. This is what is missing in the parks lineup and what they need to focus on next. They already have a decent sized show already (pity about the content!) and Roxy. So I think realistically in order what they need is: Flat Ride Package > Replacement show for HSD > Kids Area overhaul before even considering replacing one of the thrill coasters with a new one. And honestly I think given its age I'd suggest it may be Superman before Green Lantern as the Hydraulic Launch coasters are getting harder to get parts for. I don't think that Superman should get the LSM conversion either.

In regards to Vortex being moved... yeah let's not. It's a shame because the Top Spin model is actually a decent ride when it's ran properly (Sure it's no Wipeout but it's not inherently bad). But It's not something I would want at Movie World at all. I would honestly love a high capacity Screaming Swing or similar to replace Doomsday as I think it would fit the plot nicely, and is reliable for the most part. It's a thrill ride, but not so scary that younger people wouldn't want to ride it. They could either go for the 32 rider model or even the 40. The good thing is, on quieter days they can run a single side if the park isn't too busy (which given VRTP standards they will run only one side outside of the opening 6 weeks)

It's good they're finally doing something but doing it in the middle of your peak season is a weird look, IMO.

Wishful thinking, maybe something is in the pipeline now and they need to get moving on it's removal?

maybe they fast tracked whatever plans they have for the area with King Claw opening down the road and seeing how much praise Dreamworld has received with all their new additions. i won’t be suprised if the rest of the area stays (but is maybe upgraded so the old games are removed) and a new flat is installed.

Agree it's probably wishful thinking. they haven't made an announcement yet - which is the sort of thing they'd do to try and take the shine off the success that Dreamworld is having down the road.

It's interesting the discussion has continued on for JR & Rivertown whereas Woz has essentially faded to black after opening week.

If they've moved to pull it down now because of something in the pipeline, you'd expect to see it parts on site and have it up and running by easter, winter holidays latest. I'm not holding my breath.

You can't easily put a flat ride in there short term. There is a massive cavern under the platform. The mast for the ride is set down on top of concrete footings over 8m deep, but all around it is open space to allow the platform to retract. It would be like digging out the bottom carpark of an apartment block. There will be a fair bit of earth works going on to remove and you'll just be left with a big hole you need to compact and pave over.

If you are going to replace it, replace it.

driving past it looks like a crane was up at Doomsday, maybe tonight’s the night.

Thank you @Ash

F$%k, the theming looks better without the ride.

Hahaha just a walk through area is all they ever needed no ride necessary

looks like it was the night 😝

That was quick, happy days. Hopefully the fences come down soon so people can enjoy the precinct again.

Did I miss something or was there never any announcement? (MW: Doomsday Destroyer, never heard of it, what's that?). If so, missed opportunity for marketing to lament how iconic it was.

Nope it’s still on the map and website

Until we see how it was dismantled, cut wires can be replaced.

Who knows, maybe it will be the first thrill ride at Paradise Country, still only goes 90 degrees and branded Shaun the Sheep.

I say this in jest - I fully expect it's gone - just the dismantling does seem more careful than I would have expected for a ride going to scrap.  Not sure if anyone else agrees?

Maybe it is on its way to Gumbuya World...
