    • New rollercoaster/flat ride

The GC theme parks have delegated authority to works within their gates which means council doesn't need to sign off on the plans, nor is there public consultation periods. They obviously still have guidelines with height/noise that may require council involvement/approvals.

Its not out of the realms of feasibility that VTP could contact a few manufacturers to find one with an opening, purchase and we have a ride or 2 in 2017, especially if all we are talking about is flats to get the ride count up

  • good they should get rid of this old boring ride and put something more new and exciting in it's place.

  • What sort of ride can you buy for the couple million they saved?  Anything that you know will be as big a hit as the flume ride?  Certainly nothing as big as the flume, probably nothing as family  fri

  • Think its about time that they seriously think about relocating Surfrider to Seaworld, as per the original  plan. Its compact, and its a great fit for the park as a spiritual succesor to the Pirate Sh

@Tim Dasco as I said, history has shown with the construction time line of many new rides at our Parks. I was not referring to waitlists and time taken ordering rides in etc.

As @Brad2912 mentioned a new flats can be bought off the shelf and installed quickly (as DW has done countless times historically).

Looking at the current Hypercoaster project at MW, months of it's installation have been spent on surveying, levelling and reconfiguring the existing landscape. If it wasn't for this need the whole project time frame could have been likely halved, as was the case of LW which was a stock standard Vekoma suspended coaster with the exception of the Horizontal loop - a first for the brand. In the case of Lethal, the levelling of the land was also far simpler. It was originally a gentle slope from the Studio Commissary down to the now Superman show building. You will all have no doubt seen the hill cut away between the Canteen and the first drop.

So customising the ride as well as the land to accommodate it can and does have a dramatic affect on the time line.  Eliminating these issues by ordering off the shelf as well as having available land ready to go (SW) and you can most definately install in a few short months. Not years.

As I was on the monorail at seaworld, I noticed out the front in a storage area, there was the carriages for the flume. 3 of them seemed like they had just been polished and cleaned and the rest were being worked on. Could they just be re-doing the log ride with same theming but different track? Or they could just be shipping the ride off somewhere else.

I believe they have been there a while during it's initial maintenance period - probably before they made the decision to permanently close. The answer is definitely no to your 1st question while your 2nd question, the boats could be shipped to somewhere else but the rest of the ride is less likely due to the complexity of it's removal, repair costs, current reliability & age.

I'd be more inclined to think that the boats are the weak link in the chain as it were.  Most of the ride has been updated/replaced in the past 40 years, the boats haven't.  There's only so many times you can patch them up before it's a bad idea to do any more, as it is the boats are way heavier than they used to be, which actually is the biggest cause of downtime for the ride; heavy boats not making it over the top break.  It also means the capacity of the boats has effectively been reduced from 4 adults to 2 or 3 adults as well as a kid or 2.

well it's obviously still going to be a flume ride. my guess is they will change the boats and re-theme it.

Doesn't take 2 years to do that... the odds of it being a flume are 1,000,000:1 IMO

Maybe utilising the structure and supports, maybe even some mechanical components if it's not too costly for insurance? Still seems pretty silly to me that they would repair the timber behind the drop if it's going to be demolished anyway.

why did they get rid of all the boats but they are repairing the actual ride? what the hell are they doing are they getting rid of it or not?

Getting rid of it but maybe given the 'broken timber scattered across a footpath under a ride' imagery was not something you would want to see while wandering around a theme park, SW might have considered the investment to replace the timber temporarily worthy so it does not give guests the wrong impression (poorly maintained or built rides) than the real likely reason (still safe when not operating but better financially to replace in the future than repair instantly) especially during a time of intense media scrutiny. If you forgot what it looked like, here's a reminder:

Subtle proof that someone at Sea World reads the Parkz updates. ;)

A little birdie told me that the reason for that installation is due to someone recently being caught checking out the Vikings revenge flume and castle… from areas they aren’t supposed to be..
