Park was busy today with what I would say around 4,000 people there. While at the park today a few things I have noticed, Along with the perviously discussed misting system that was installed in the Kraken queue they have installed a hose system that sprays water onto the path for the Tidal Wave & Sea Serpents queue along with new flooring and railings. As mention earlier in another thread the Aussie Wildlife experience has reopened. However this area personaly could still use more work to really make it lively.

Rampage is still closed and a staff member said it was awaiting a new part, Goliath was closed all day but opened at 6:15pm giving 45 minutes of cycle time before the park closed at 7pm. Seemed like the issue was with the floor not dropping properly. (But thats a guess) Good to see maintenance working all day to get it up and running ASAP to avoid having it out of service during peek season.

A Shipping container has been placed next to the Moat and the Container was opened and then closed later on and some movement was happening around the area. Not sure if its MI-4 related or for something else.

Because it's hard to build up momentum to sell tickets at during the off season.

How important is Halloween to Fright Nights at MW anyway? Never see it referenced. I bet most people who go to Fright Nights don't make the connection that Halloween is on the 31st and that's why MW is doing a scary event during October. So why not do it in Feb? When you do it literally doesn't matter so long as it's good.

Dont get me wrong- it was a legitimate question.  I was genuinely interested in why they had moved them to Feb and March. Its quite a reasonable reason as explained by @Adam C. If it works for AW then more power to them. However, are these nights in lieu of a October event as well?

Not sure I 100% agree that people do not make the connection between Horror Nights and Halloween though. I would argue that Halloween is becoming more and more recognisable in this country from a retail and micro event point of view. The fact that is becoming so commercialised  and embraced by more and more Australians points towards greater awareness for mine. Also the fact that virtually every park now has a Halloween event ( even the smaller parks such as LPM, LPS , Aussie World have very successful Fright Nights) is more evidence that Halloween is becoming more mainstream than ever. My opinion only, but I would say that perception between a park Horror night event in October and Halloween itself would not be stronger.

I think you never see it referenced anymore because it's regarded as redundant and unnecessary. It used to be marketed as a 'Halloween event'  (reference to a 'halloween event' in this media analysis from around 2013-2014)

This vlogger uses halloween in the video title referencing a fright nights event, and the comments include things like "i'm going this year for halloween"

Overseas, (which i'm sure many here would agree is the inspiration for such an event in the first place), the parks all do it "for" halloween, and many of their events include 'halloween' in the name. Its also probably indicative that the intention is to associate it with halloween simply because it (and several other events around the country) are all timed to occur on, or around 31 October.

I'd argue many people connect fright nights to halloween, given the multiple years worth of effort MW has put in to building such a horror and scare themed event in that manner.

No. Pretty sure @Tim Dasco or @iwerks can confirm, given their conversations with the GM, but Perth seems to have terrible weather around October, and many events around then are impacted - so the move to Feb\Mar is to have 'better weather' for the event.

Yes this event has replaced the normal fright nights in October. The last 3 out of 4 fright nights have had rain during the event or colder weather. When in Perth we can still get some 40 degree days well into March. So the weather is a legit reason.

They do remain very confident that the event will be a massive success. They are heavily pushing adds on local TV, plus Facebook. With this year also expanded across 2 weekends and with their first maze. They have moved away from the pumpkins, and Halloween stuff and more into the doomsday type theme.

But we will see how it goes and it’s either gonna work or not.

@AlexB I disagree with the assertion that the timing of the event in the same month as Halloween is an important motivating factor for why people go to Fright Nights at MW. Halloween isn't Christmas, you can do scary stuff whenever you like. Scary movies come out year round, haunt style attractions operate and tour year round. If it makes more sense for ticketing and weather reasons to do a scary event in Feb or March, then there really isn't a good reason not to. Equally if you're doing a Carnivale event it doesn't have to be at the same time of year as Rio Carnival or Mardi Gras. Hold the event when it makes sense, and it makes way more sense for Adventure World to hold this event in Feb/March.

That's your prerogative. I answered your question with my point of view. I wasn't the only one with that view.

It does make sense for AW to move because of the weather. I'm not disputing that. Its just a little funny because literally every other 'scare' event that i am aware of is based in october, and at least in some way suggested to be connected to halloween.

You're very welcome to have a different opinion.

Also, being so far from the East Coast events, if you can get the first year or two to be successful, people will soon adapt to the change.

Potentially, being at a different time of year, those die hard scare chasers might travel and aim to do both events... i'll be interested to see how they go with this year's event.
